to think 5pm on a gorgeous Sunday evening is a wholly unacceptable time to mow one's lawn?

Well, it is, isn't it? For, I believe, 99% of the population. Unfortunately for ME, the socially inept buffoon residing behind my house makes up the other %.

OP posts:
makeminea6x · 22/06/2014 18:38

I find the sound annoying too. That's why we have a push mower.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 22/06/2014 18:39

Oops first one doesn't make sebse

Bowlersarm · 22/06/2014 18:40

YABVU

Is inconsiderate to mow too early, it's inconsiderate to mow too late. Therefore 5pm is just about the perfect time.

mysteryfairy · 22/06/2014 18:40

If you live next door to me just to let you know now we'll most likely mow the lawn at exactly this time next week too assuming it's not raining.

pandarific · 22/06/2014 18:42

Eh? You're a mad spoon, it's perfectly fine.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 22/06/2014 18:43

It wouldn't bother me. If I didn't want to hear the sounds of other people I would have bought a house away from everyone. I like the sounds of suburbia such as lawn mowers and children playing and the sight of neighbours washing their cars and hanging out their washing. I find it all strangely comforting. I couldn't live anywhere that didn't have neighbours very close by.

JohnnyBarthes · 22/06/2014 18:43

Mowing leave for Monday - Friday, 9-5 workers. One hour, every fortnight, in the summer months to be made up during non-mowing months.

Sometimes I scare myself with my genius.

CallerIDBingo · 22/06/2014 19:34

I've mowed ours at half six tonight in your face neighbours

Nothing wrong with that at all.

LalaLeona · 22/06/2014 19:43

Oh lord I've heard it all now...some people just love to moan.

boredofdinosaurs · 22/06/2014 19:49

One of my neighbours mowed his lawn at 9.50pm the other day when England played. He was clearly pissed off and had gone out to cut his grass in a huff. :)

minibmw2010 · 22/06/2014 19:55

Don't be daft, it's practically mid afternoon on a weekend and no way he's disturbing sleep times etc.

daisychain01 · 22/06/2014 20:01

5pm on a gorgeous Sunday evening

I wouldn't have a problem with it, thestoker, it doesnt seem an anti-social time - especially for people who are at work all week, need time indoors to do household chores on Saturday, and then can nip outside around 5pm to cut the grass - depending on the size of garden/lawn, surely the whole job will be done and dusted by 6pm?

I've had to cut the grass at 8pm in the summer Blush - its just the way it goes, it isn't as invasive a sound as someone's music centre thumping away all afternoon.

iwouldgoouttonight · 22/06/2014 20:12

Phew just opened this and thought it was about me as I did mow my lawn at 5pm today. But as everyone thinks it's fine I don't mind Grin

LalaLeona · 22/06/2014 20:13

Some people work, and have busy lives. They have to do things when they get the time. Not just when it suits neighbours (who clearly have too much time on their hands).

JohnnyBarthes · 22/06/2014 20:13

Not everyone, no iwould

OTheHugeManatee · 22/06/2014 20:19

Move to small-town Germany, OP. When we moved there when I was little and my dad got the lawnmower out on a Sunday, as one does, the neighbours all came round to tell him that just wasn't on. At all. Ever, on a Sunday.

HTH Grin

JohnnyBarthes · 22/06/2014 20:20

I work. I have a busy life.

Which is why I get pissed off about not being able to relax in my garden thanks to fuckheads and their obsessive use of power tools.

I amend my earlier proclamation btw. 1700 (as it seems optimal re lawn care) to 1745. That is the only weekend window for legal mowing

slightlyconfused85 · 22/06/2014 20:30

what?! I don't get this. 5pm on a nice day is completely acceptable. If your post said 7am or 11pm I might understand but I think YABVU.

JasonOgg · 22/06/2014 21:29

Moved my lawn at 8:20pm! NDN asked if I thought it was a bit late and I said "no, since everyone has been out in their gardens with guests (including him!) all day and have only just gone in!. Also it is cooler and my lawn slopes so I ends up being a workout!"
I was trying to be a good neighbour but some people you can't please! He is retired so can do it anytime.

ForalltheSaints · 22/06/2014 21:33

If you have the option to mow the lawn one weekday evening, yes.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 22/06/2014 21:35

Eh?

I don't understand why it is wholly unacceptable. Confused

Is it just because OP happened to be sat in her garden relaxing?

Simplesusan · 22/06/2014 21:40

I think it is perfectly reasonable to mow the lawn at that time.

Mim78 · 22/06/2014 21:44

Yabu.

coffeeinbed · 22/06/2014 21:45

In an ideal world I would live on an deserted island without any noisy buggers around.

And my neighbour will be in hell with one of those drills they use for Crossrail for company.

YANBU.

Janethegirl · 22/06/2014 21:46

Anytime between 8am and 10pm is good in my view. I once mowed my lawn at 4am cos my neighbour was being an arse though Grin
