to think 5pm on a gorgeous Sunday evening is a wholly unacceptable time to mow one's lawn?

Well, it is, isn't it? For, I believe, 99% of the population. Unfortunately for ME, the socially inept buffoon residing behind my house makes up the other %.

I'm moving to Gernamy Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/06/2014 17:42

You are being ridiculously unreasonable. The End.

squoosh · 22/06/2014 17:43

'I wish everyone would use a push mower like I make DH we do. No zroom zroom noise.'

I haven't seen one of those in yonks, didn't know they still made them!

Are you actually looking for something ridiculous to get worked up about?

What a non-issue. Why isn't 5.00 pm an acceptable time to mow the lawn? The day is cooling down now after being very hot earlier, and is much more conducive to doing something like that.

Would you like him to mow it at midnight?

diddl · 22/06/2014 17:45

I love it!

"Quiet time" is 8pm-7am, all day Sundays & holidays!

FixItUpChappie · 22/06/2014 17:46

YBVU - it's not even close to an unacceptable hour. Not everyone has the same time in which to sit around and listen to the birdsong or desire either I would imagine.

squoosh · 22/06/2014 17:47

Enforced quiet time would make me want to start a one woman brass band.

Shizzy · 22/06/2014 17:49

YABVU. Any time after 10am is acceptable in my opinion. You should move to Belgium as you can't mow your lawn there on a Sunday.

alleypalley · 22/06/2014 17:49

You must live somewhere very peaceful, I don't think that noise would even register with me.

Now the delivery drivers for the take away place next door, revving their moped engines because apparently they need to warm up their engines, well they make me stabby.

Bunbaker · 22/06/2014 17:49

I had forgotten to mention night shifts. My next door neighbour works nights sometimes so I never mow the lawn in the morning.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 22/06/2014 17:50

I'd like it actually.

Lovely smell.

Rainicorn · 22/06/2014 17:51

YABU, it's an ideal time as cutting during midday will kill your grass. Best to do it after the sun is central.
My neighbour cuts hers at 8am, very annoying during the summer holidays.

mousmous · 22/06/2014 17:51

yabu

SEmyarse · 22/06/2014 17:52

Mumsnet is so odd.

i was claiming lawn mowing was a nice noise the other day, and everyone was ripping me to shreds, claiming it was like sitting inside a jet engine.

DeepThought · 22/06/2014 17:54

DH cut our lawns at about 4.30, DS has strimmed as well

Shoot me

squoosh · 22/06/2014 17:54

Yes, Mumsnet is odd. That much is true.

MandarinCheesecake · 22/06/2014 17:56

Yabu, is your neighbour supposed to work round all the other neighbours and schedule his lawn mowing to a time when someone might not be sitting in the garden??

Or maybe he should book a slot with you when its acceptable!

Lawn mowing I can handle, what pisses me off is, when you want to enjoy the garden on a nice day and your neighbours have the same idea. But they have to let everyone else know that they are there. At least lawn mowing is only a short while.
Shrieking, shouting, crying and talking very loudly is fecking relentless Angry

HercShipwright · 22/06/2014 17:57

YABU. DH has just finished mowing the front lawn. Better that than the killing field it previously was (our cat is looking at him in disgust now he is bagging up all the previous camouflage...)

RandallFloyd · 22/06/2014 17:58

I thought is was a joke.
Like a light-hearted, 'what a twat, I want to drink my Pimms in peace' type of thing.

It is, isn't it?

Runesigil · 22/06/2014 17:58

I've just finished about an hour's mowing on the back lawn, came in for a drink and just thought I'd check MN, as you do and, well what can I say, 'Hello neighbour, fancy seeing you here' Smile

I was going to do it around lunchtime but could hear that you had visitors
in your garden and thought you may not appreciate me mowing then.

PasswordProtected · 22/06/2014 17:59

I would love to be able to mow the lawn at 5pm on a Sunday, but as someone has already pointed out, it is not permitted here in Germany.
Surely the noise won't go on for too long?

BackforGood · 22/06/2014 17:59

Agree with everyone else - YABU and a bit ridiculous.

TeamEdward - that would be a bonus of course, but even in RL, mowing the lawn on a Sunday evening is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

JohnnyBarthes · 22/06/2014 17:59

Between 1030 and 1200 hours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays will be the only permitted mowing and strimming hours when I'm in charge.

I don't care if I'm being unreasonable

HercShipwright · 22/06/2014 18:02

Our neighbours were having a noisy party, with music and speeches, in their garden at 10:30 last night. I'm not actually fussed if our mowing disturbed them this afternoon. It won't have kept their kids awake that's for sure.
