to think 5pm on a gorgeous Sunday evening is a wholly unacceptable time to mow one's lawn?

Well, it is, isn't it? For, I believe, 99% of the population. Unfortunately for ME, the socially inept buffoon residing behind my house makes up the other %.

I think it's the perfect time to do it, too hot earlier on and the grass is damp in the morning (anyway people would moan about that too).

Lawns should be covered with a thick layer of tarmac and then artificial plastic grass. To be washed with used bath-water, not a hose-pipe.

OP Would that satisfy you?

thornrose · 22/06/2014 18:07

My NDN neighbour is mowing her lawn right now, I didn't even blink an eyelid!

So many people seem to resent their neighbours enjoying their gardens. I've read so many threads about shrieking children, music, bbq smoke/smell, people talking loudly etc etc.

Live and let live and enjoy our very short summer is what I say.

DelicianoLopez · 22/06/2014 18:11

my ndn did his the other night, a weekday at 9pm.

another a few dorrs away at 6am last sunday.

atm ndn hammering on the adjoining wall, when its against the law on a sunday to do noisy DIY on a sunday.

Batmansbuttocks · 22/06/2014 18:11

I think 5pm on Sunday is the optimum time!

fluffyraggies · 22/06/2014 18:12

DH mowed ours at 4ish. Took ages as it hasn't been done for 3 weeks. Now the smell of cut grass is wafting right through the house and it's lovely.

I think the sound of mowing is one of those sounds of summer. Like certain bird song, and the sound of those little private planes spluttering about high up in the sky.

In what wat is mowing 'not permitted' in Germany?

Stratter5 · 22/06/2014 18:12

Whaaaat?

weyayechickenpie · 22/06/2014 18:13

No I would be quite happy with that. It seems the norm round here to do it as early as possible 8-9 drives me nuts I dont care through the week as im up early.

wtffgs · 22/06/2014 18:15

YABU and a bit weird Wink

frankie001 · 22/06/2014 18:16

Yabu, perfect time! Especially as it is marginally cooler!

Dubjackeen · 22/06/2014 18:21

Frankly I would rather someone was moving their lawn than having to put up with my neighbour playing what she thinks as music very loud

Same here. Lawn mower could sound like music to my ears, by comparison to the thud thud thud from next door.

RuddyDuck · 22/06/2014 18:21

I'm with you, OP ! When I'm in my "benign dictator" mode I think I really should get all the neighbours to co-ordinate lawn mowing. That way it would be really loud and annoying for 30 minutes once a week and then blissfully quiet. As opposed to Neighbour A mowing for 30 minutes, followed by neighbour B for another 30 minutes and so on, so that the sound of mowing seems to go on for hours.

DH used to live in a country where lawn mowing was banned in a Sunday. bliss.

RunLikeSomeFeckersChasing · 22/06/2014 18:22

My ndn has been hanging over the fence and working at a horrible erection all day involving mainly rotten wood, corrugated plastic and a shit load of screws. Wish the old horror would cut the grass with a scythe.

weyayechickenpie · 22/06/2014 18:24

squoosh · 22/06/2014 18:28

'My ndn has been hanging over the fence and working at a horrible erection all day'

I read that as your next door neighbour had been hanging his horrible erection over the fence. I thought 'yes that would kill a nice summery mood'.

BellaVita · 22/06/2014 18:28

I have read it all now. Get a bloody life woman.

Deverethemuzzler · 22/06/2014 18:29

There is a massive erection in my NDN's back garden

Just sayin'

A time that is "a nice time to be in the garden" is almost by definition also "a time when you think I probably need to mow this lawn".

fifi669 · 22/06/2014 18:34

As long as it's not stupid o'clock in the morning I wouldn't be bothered myself

Poussay · 22/06/2014 18:34

Yabu, 5pm on a summer Sunday seems a very normal lawn mowing time!

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 22/06/2014 18:37

Well I worked from 7am til 3pm today, by the time I for home, changed, took the kids to the park for a bit, got back and got the mower I out it was about 5.
So yes, YABU. I wasn't sitting at hIf this is serious, I kind of doubt it)

thornrose · 22/06/2014 18:37

I just re-read your OP, the socially inept buffoon is a horrible way to describe your neighbour's very reasonable lawn mowing. Bloody hell!

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 22/06/2014 18:38

So yes, YABU. I wasn't sitting at home scratching my arse watching the clock for the ideal time to piss off the neighbours.
