To hate it when women shave/wax their eyebrows off then draw them on?

My friend does this!! She has lovely, natural eyebrows too but she shaves them off the uses black eyeliner to draw them on. It looks awful! Each to their own, of course, but sometimes they aren't even.

I think brows that have been shaped with a bit of brow pencil to give them a little oomph look great but not drawing them on like a pre schooler.

She told me that she doesn't like her natural brow colour as its 'too dark' yet draws them on with BLACK pencil.

I am probably being unfair but just a thought. What do others think?

I completely agree.

It looks horrific. Especially that really thin, really high arch they do. Like two semi-circles of surprise.

I see it most on British women, tbh. I'm in Aus, and very rarely see it here.

OwlCapone · 18/06/2014 08:22

Well, each to their own and they probably think they look great and are happy, which is the point I guess.

But I think they look shit.

Roundedbuttocks90 · 18/06/2014 08:22

Yeah!! Looks bloody awful.

Oh YANBU it's horrendous!

Why oh why oh why...

Ime, it's usually accompanied by an orange hue too, it is NOT a good look.hopefully they will grow out of it.

Roundedbuttocks90 · 18/06/2014 08:27

Yes!! Orange face but a white neck! What s all that about?

I very rarely wear makeup but when I do I make sure I don't look orange!! I guess that you learn by others mistakes.

Sometimes less is more

Can't stand this look! Always looks so false, like a kid has done it with a magic marker.

Mrsjayy · 18/06/2014 08:40

Women do it I thought it was just teenage girls I suppose its a fad but they look bloody daft

JudysPriest · 18/06/2014 08:43

Meh. Long as they're not shaving mine off it's all good.

Roundedbuttocks90 · 18/06/2014 08:53

Yeah my friend is a beauty therapist.

There's no way I would let her touch my eyebrows. Ever

I know a girl whos eyebrows are drawn on thick and black as if she’s done it with a sharpie. I like to guess where on her face they will be each time we see her.

marthabear · 18/06/2014 09:07

Spare a thought for us poor practically eyebrowless people. Really. I haven't overplucked or anything, just very sparse of brow and very fair. I need a bit of pencil ( as natural as I can). I hope I don't look too awful.

amy83firsttimer · 18/06/2014 09:09

YANBU! Horrendous.

GerundTheBehemoth · 18/06/2014 09:11
seems appropriate here.
scotchtikidoll · 18/06/2014 09:12

She probably doesn't like elements of YOUR appearance too.

Perhaps SHE likes it? It doesn't matter what you think at all. It is sad when people slag off the way other people look.

I have VERY naturally sparse eyebrows that I reshape and I like them thin when I go for a night out- it just suits me. Other people can fuck off with their nasty judgements. I'm happy.

Beehatch · 18/06/2014 09:14

Me too Martha, I'm getting very sparse of brow these days and have to fill then back in.

And I'm sensitive enough about it without thinking I'm being judged horrendous!

Mrsjayy · 18/06/2014 09:38

Drawing in eyebrows isnt newbut the drawn in with a sharpie pen look is new I am sure the girls women who do it like it but it looks it looks daft imo

PoirotsMoustache · 18/06/2014 09:46

I saw a lady in the post office yesterday who had drawn her eyebrows on so they went all the way round to the middle of her temples. I was a bit puzzled as to why she'd drawn them so long, as I've never seen anyone with natural eyebrows that length.

I'm not one to talk really though, as I have a caterpillar above each eye, so most people are probably looking at me thinking 'pluck your eyebrows woman, for goodness' sake!'

KoalaDownUnder · 18/06/2014 09:56

Nooo, we're not talking about normal use of an eyebrow pencil for sparse brows!

I have sparse brows myself, and hate being seen in public without filling my brows in. But I do it so that it looks like a natural brow might, if I'd been blessed with something thicker at birth. Not like a sharp, thin semi-circle.

ipswichwitch · 18/06/2014 10:03

Definitely not talking about the defining of sparse/light eyebrows with a pencil to enhance what's already there. More the complete removal of perfectly adequate eyebrows and drawing them back on two inches higher than they should be with a black sharpie, giving a permanently surprised look rather like Penfold off Dangermouse...
I can't understand it either.

Roundedbuttocks90 · 18/06/2014 11:13

No!! I have sparse brows myself and completely understand! We are talking about people who actually shave them off and then draw them back on with no attempt to try and make them look natural!

Nothing wrong with trying to make your brows a bit fuller

OP posts:
Roundedbuttocks90 · 18/06/2014 11:17

scotch she says I should wear more make up so yes you're right there are elements of my appearance that she doesn't like.

OP posts:
WhoMovedMyVuvuzela · 18/06/2014 11:26

I have a relative who draws her brows on and I always wondered why. It turns out she was really ill and anemic and lost them completely, if feel really sorry for her because she is not into make up that much.

As for getting rid of perfectly good brows, I totally don't get that either.

Roundedbuttocks90 · 18/06/2014 12:14

I understand in circumstances like that. It must be so difficult to come to terms with too.

OP posts:
Suzannewithaplan · 18/06/2014 12:18

It's hard to understand the rationale!
I am very careful with eyebrow plucking, seen too many women who've sparse eyebrows as a result (I presume) of plucking them into a tiny fine line and killing off the hair follicles
