to think 6pm is late enough?

Because my daughter thinks I am very unreasonable. It is still light. She doesn't go to bed for aaaaaages. All her friends are still playing out.

But I think that 6pm is a reasonable time for a 10 year old to come in, eat tea, and then stay indoors.

What do you think?

I think it depends where you live - how much are children annoying the neighbour after about 7pm and how suitable is the street for children playing?

After 6pm I'd only let kids out if they are supervised by me or DH/family.

Oakmaiden you seem to be worried that there is a right and a wrong thing to do and are needing assurance. Honestly, it's up to you as a family. If your dd is tired, go to bed earlier, If she's not, go to bed later, there are no rules! Playing outside, inside etc doesn't really matter. I'd let her play out with her friends, what a waste of the summer if she's stuck inside!

I think YABU. My DC play out after tea.

I might be on my own here, but I think that YANBU - I have a 10 year old and mine have to be in by 6pm on week days, 7pm at weekends - they play out in the street after school with their friends and I think that it shows consideration for the neighbours. Some have toddlers that will be wanting to wind down and not everyone wants scooters rattling past their house when they get in from work.

They can play quietly in the garden if they want until 7-8ish, but not in the street. It's a courtesy thing, IMO.

Wow... Everybody's children up our street play outside until its dark...
