I started reading this thread last night and was howling. Goodness knows why I thought it was a good idea to carry on reading it on the train to work today!
I'd forgotten about Mr Holland's Opus but yes that set me off. And Schindler's List is the only film I've seen where I thought I was actually going to sob out loud in the cinema

INeedSomeHelp · 16/06/2014 19:40

Oh and the song "How long will I love you" by Ellie Goulding

TheFairyCaravan · 16/06/2014 19:44

INeed I agree about How Long Will I Love You.

DH was away in the Falklands the first time I heard that on the radio. I had just dropped DS2 off at college and drove home with tears streaming down my face!

CeliaFate · 16/06/2014 19:47

The song Jessie sings in Toy Story 2 - "When She Loved Me"
"I had a dream" from Les Miserables.

CeliaFate · 16/06/2014 19:48

"I dreamed a dream"

CeliaFate · 16/06/2014 19:54

I should add - the Glee version sung by Rachel and her mother of I dreamed a dream is the most powerful for me. I imagine me and dd singing it.

YouTheCat · 16/06/2014 20:00

I am not a cryer as such but the bit in Schindler's List when the little girl in the red coat's body goes past on the barrow.

And also Christian Bale when him and his parents are reunited in Empire of the Sun.

Guaranteed to set me off.

Missdread · 16/06/2014 20:04

The Bridges of Madison County. The most beautiful book I have ever read: I sob like a baby every time I revisit it. Please please read it if you haven't already!

Winterlight · 16/06/2014 20:33

Labi Siffre- 'Something inside so strong'.

Group singing of 'Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika' - South African National Anthem.

The scene where Dawn and Tim finally get together in 'The Office Christmas special'.

The final scene of Billy Elliot.

Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant in 'Sense and Sensibility'; the scene in the film where Edward proposes to Elinor.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/06/2014 20:47

The new Ed Sheeran track (out today) Afire Love has just completely turned me into blub.

It's about hislate grandfather who had alzheimers.

Sad
TalcAndTurnips · 16/06/2014 20:54

It's a mixture of the significance and solemnity of the occasion and the subtle beauty and skill of the playing of this glorious piece.

Hoofdegebouw · 16/06/2014 21:22

I am now crying on the train. Quietly.
I read The Big Big Sea by Martin Waddell once - I can never read it again, it is the most cry-making book in existence.

Yy to up, toy story.

There is a poem about little handprints on the wall, and children growing up. My ds made a calendar for us at Christmas with it printed on. I tried to read it out in a delighted voice and had to hand it to Dh halfway through as I collapsed in a sobbing heap.

thebodylovesspring · 16/06/2014 21:34

YouTheCat yes empire of the sun reunion is so beautiful and touching. The whole film is a tearjerker.

YY to Railway children 'daddy my daddy' tearing up just thinking about it

When Beth dies in little women, both the film and book.

In the West Wing when Mrs Landingham dies and the way Charlie tells Leo.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 16/06/2014 21:49

Loads, I cry at everything. The worst one is the closing credits of Philadelphia.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 16/06/2014 21:52

Oh and a book start board book DS was given, I think it's called "me". A little penguin saying "the world is big, and I am small, the ocean is deep and I am small etc etcetera...but you are big, and you are kind. When I'm with you I do not mind. I may be small but I can see, the biggest thing to you us me."
Read it to the DC's tonight and bubbled. weepy now!

JohnFarleysRuskin · 16/06/2014 22:10

Oh yes, 'I dreamed a dream' and 'how long will I love you?' bring tears to my eye

And 'the drugs don't work' it's a wonderful song.

Books- Sebastian faulkes birdsong, suite francaise. And Anne frank of course.

wannabeveggie · 16/06/2014 22:11

I dont

slithytove · 16/06/2014 22:15

"....You've got to grind, grind, grind, at that grindstone.
Though childhood slips like sand through a sieve.
And all too soon they've up and grown,
And then they've flown,
And it's too late for you to give"

From Mary poppins.
Always gets me since I had DS.

KoalaFace · 16/06/2014 22:17

Oh slithey! You've got a bloody talent for getting me all emotional!

slithytove · 16/06/2014 22:20

Sorry! It's obviously the same stuff getting to both of us. I've just googled that handprint poem and found loads, and I'm in floods again.

How awful that the thought of my DS growing up and away from me has this effect.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 16/06/2014 22:20

How did I forget Dumbo. Wail every time.
Dancer in the Dark
The Orphanage

The song Waltzing Matilda makes me blub too.

Springheeled · 16/06/2014 22:22

Much Ado!! 'I do love nothing in the world so well as you- is that not strange?' sniff
And when Gru cries reading the children's story in Despicable Me!
And in Out and About through the year, I don't know why this one gets me, but 'think of a time when there will be/decorations on a tree...' I always cry all the way through Christmas anyway, I bloody love it!
I call it the 'nose tingle': that moment when you know you're going to lose it!
Oh and the song that goes 'autumn days when the grass is jewelled' that they sing in primary school

KoalaFace · 16/06/2014 22:24

We can have a very small support group for our specific emotional triggers!

ReeseWithoutHerSpoon · 16/06/2014 22:28

The Poppy girls at the royal Albert hall last year. That beautiful wee talented girl thought her daddy was away fighting and then there he was..........
