Little children singing Away in a Manger. Kills me every time.

MrsLovell · 07/11/2014 15:08

The last 20 mins of Juno,
The first 20 mins of UP,
The final episode of Friends (have seen this about 5 times, it still gets me)
DIY SOS
Dare I mention The John Lewis Christmas advert (cried uncontrolably for 20 minutes this morning, much to DH's amusment)

In my defence I am 13 weeks pregnant atm, so I'm worse than normal...

Brams · 07/11/2014 16:44

I cried at the John Lewis ad Mrs L so that'll be me changing channels every 15 minutes up to Christmas! And I'm not pregnant. Lonely penguins. Sob!

Also anything about Orang Utans because we're fucking up their world and there aren't enough people to save them. The SSE ad with the orang in it sets me off.

And very small children singing carols and, of course, the school nativity. I really am a tough old bird but have huge handfuls of tissues in my bag at this time of year because I know something's going to set me off!

LadyRabbit · 07/11/2014 16:47

Opening and end credit scenes of 'Love Actually'.

I know, I know, just shoot me now!

MoHintawnFein · 07/11/2014 16:58

I never cry (unless it's hormonal). I mean NEVER!!
My dh and dc think I am cold as a result but I do bawl at children crying or puppies being born and EVERY single time I watch the new John Lewis ad - even the thought of it has me leaking!! Could it be old age??!!

Wishyouwould · 07/11/2014 18:25

Recently saw the Goodbye song from The Bear in the Big Blue House and when I sang along I totally lost it. I sang it with my twins when they were little (they are now 11) and that was the happiest time of my life. I think some of the tears were because I know I'll never be that happy again.

Films

Titanic.

United 93 the plane that went down on 9/11. The messages that the passengers sent to their family and the way they struggled to over power the terrorists but just can't, absolutely gut wrenching.

Love actually the ending song and scenes, also Emma Thompson crying in the bedroom.

Schindlers list

Watching anything to do with remembrance Sunday the lost of life on all sides was so so sad.

Small children singing Xmas carols

I agree with loads of these...Dawn and Tim getting together in the Office (love the song Only You by Yazoo which is playing in that scene), Rachel's funeral in Cold Feet, various scenes from the Royle Family, basically any comedy which does pathos really well.

Quite a few scenes from the programme Derek...when Kev tells him that pets dont go to heaven and so he says he wont go to heaven, he'll go wherever the pets go. And the last episode with his Dad Sad

That advert from years ago for a pet rescue charity where the dog owner abandons the dog on the side of the road because he doesnt want it anymore. The dog waits for the owner to come back but the owner never does. The look on the dogs little face, waaaaahhh!!!

Acts of unexpected kindness from strangers.

Theas18 · 09/11/2014 20:33

Gawd I haven't been to the stage version of war horse because I'd just sob all the way. The film is bad enough and theatre so much more so. Much theatre/ musical theatre does it to me. Just so much more intense than tv.

Brass bands yup. Especially the Normandy carol.

Can't read goodbye mog anymore. Too sad.

Have a huge Anglican Church music tradition in the family. Much of that makes me sniffle, especially perfect treble voices. Fantastic " voice of an angel" faure pie Jesu today from the head boy chorister. That was sniffy. Girl trebles do it as well to me of course and they are generally better singers ( being older) but this chap is just at his best.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 09/11/2014 20:50

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven. Just unbearable.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 09/11/2014 20:57

they shall not grow old, as we who are left shall grow old

At my dss friends funeral aged 18. Blown up in Afghanistsn.

Purplehonesty · 09/11/2014 21:03

Yy to watership down but also that stupid programme where they revamp a guys old car because he is ill and can't do it himself. I cry at the reveal every time.
I am a loser evidently

Pollyteacakes · 09/11/2014 21:09

Cried in Schindlers List when Schindler got the Germans to hose the people on the trains down. The Germans thought it was to just to worsen their plight. It was the act of kindness amongst all the evil.

Pollyteacakes · 09/11/2014 21:33

Wilbur what is it about children singing that? Gets me every time too.

dorasee · 09/11/2014 21:47

Oh yes, the beginning of Up and also the beginning of Finding Memo. Ridiculous, I know! Gone With the Wind when Mammy is sobbing following Bonnie Blue's death and is leading Miss Melanie upstairs to console Scarlett. It's the way Mammy is crying that sets me off. Also The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy is locked in the tower and sees Auntie Em in the crystal ball. I always tear up. She's so fragile and scared. The ending of Goodbye Lenin.

charlie0123 · 09/11/2014 21:50

Yep - children singing here too, especially Christmas carols. Children doing cross country running makes me sob - seeing the pain of the run on their faces.
Tears in heaven, REM everybody hurts, Eva Cassidy somewhere over the rainbow, advertsing space by Robbie Williams - waiting for God to end this, up to your neck in darkness- was playing when I sat with my dying dad, willing him to go.
