exceeded the targets for the MN giving week?

Here's the thread link:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/2087731-Giving-Week-is-here-donate-funds-to-MNer-nominated-organisations-and-MNHQ-will-match-them?msgid=47541127

Wikipedia tells me that there are 4,800,000 monthly users of MN. So if we all just get a quid each, that'd be £4.8m. So £25k should be more than achievable.

I see that some of the causes have reached their target, but what Womens' Aid have only had just over a grand.

MN are offering to match our donations, and there's gift aid too, so it's a very effective way of donating.

A quid each. More if you can afford it.

Thanks for the bump. Shame only 25 Mumsnetters have donated to Haven House Hospice

Well done MardyBra! I wasn't really aware of MN Giving Week (being someone who usually just looks at AIBU, Chat and the competitions...). You've encouraged me to donate. I read the thread earlier on but was on my phone, and was a bit concerned that I might have missed the MN deadline, but it's still on until midnight.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 08/06/2014 21:39

TBF, mum2, haven house is at 93% of target because of a few large donors; women's aid is at 52% with 180 donors.

I can't open the other three links though Sad

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 08/06/2014 21:40

BIWI, I was able to donate with paypal via justgiving.

BIWI · 08/06/2014 21:43

Yes, I was able to pay by PayPal today. Not sure why I couldn't before !

meditrina · 08/06/2014 21:47

It might only be 25 MNetters giving to Haven, but it's 93% of target, and some amazingly generous people OU there.

I don't particularly care if people like or damn this thread, or whether it ends badly or not.

Just as long as people see it.

It was open nomination from MNers. Even if these charities aren't you first choice, have a think about bungin ga few quid to one of them (if you can), to show what the MN community can do.

mum2jakie · 08/06/2014 22:05

Haven has almost reached its target. Only £75 off it. Pretty amazing from fewer than 30 donators!

Fram · 08/06/2014 22:17

ourvye/hopalong- when I last contributed to a woolly hug, we all used cotton yarn, so vegan too Smile

FrontForward · 08/06/2014 22:20

Good thread Mardy

Amazing how miserable some people need to be about it all

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/06/2014 22:22

I have found it tricky to donate - just now the donate link for Haven House wasn't working for me here - but our computer is quite weird and often doesn't seem to work as you'd expect. I succeeded in making a small donation to one of the other charities earlier in the week - but I think there may have been some teething problems generally judging from others experiences too.
Have a go though, it might work for you!

Hassled · 08/06/2014 22:22

Thank you for this - it had all somehow passed me by. Have donated - I needed the kick up the arse.

WhispersOfWickedness · 08/06/2014 22:26

I had no idea this was going on, thank you for bringing it to my attention, Mardy SmileThanks

LavenderCakes · 08/06/2014 22:34

Thanks so much Mardy - I'd totally forgotten. Donation made to Women's Aid. Genius idea to put it in AIBU where the swivel-eyed loons responding aggressively calls more attention to these great causes.

QueenYnci · 08/06/2014 23:04

I needed the reminder Blush, I didn't realise it was finishing yet and just hadn't got round to it. Donated to Women's Aid.

Thanks Mardy Thanks

SoleSource · 08/06/2014 23:33

I shall donate tomorrow, not have £2.00 right now.

SueDoku · 08/06/2014 23:37

Thanks. Shows how thing can get 'put aside to do another day'....!
Have donated to Women's Aid

GatoradeMeBitch · 08/06/2014 23:56

Thanks for highlighting this OP, I just donated. I didn't know about it until I saw your post. Excellent cause, I hope we get to the target!

MollyHooper · 08/06/2014 23:56

Hurrah! All the monies.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 09/06/2014 01:37

I really like the birthday cake charity tbh...for far to many children, and for whatever reasons, won't celebrate their birthdays...won't blow out candles on a cake which is one of the simpilest childhood pleasures and memories...I'm absolutely not ignoring other charities but I don't think this one necessarily should be dismissed like it was.

And I hate the guilt tripping...quite frankly some people DONT have a pound to spare and shouldn't be made to feel guilty forit

But thank you for bringing it to people's attention mardy!

SecretWitch · 09/06/2014 01:47

If PayPal is working, I am going to make small donations to both Woolly Hugs and the Birthday Cake charity.

CateBlanket · 09/06/2014 07:22

Grin at swivel-eyed loons!

Can't help thinking that the birthday cake dilemma could be solved by a Victoria sponge (cheap as chips at supermarket) with the appropriate numbers of candles bunged in ...

BIWI · 09/06/2014 07:44

Look, nobody has to donate. Nobody has to like the charities especially. BUT THEY ARE ONES NOMINATED BY YOUR FELLOW MUMSNETTERS. MNHQ have picked these from all the ones nominated, and will choose more next time.

Don't give this time if you don't want to. But don't slag off the efforts other people are making, especially if you know fuck all about the aims, ambitions and/or workings of an individual charity.

FreeSpirit89 · 09/06/2014 07:51

Thank you for bringing it to my attention. However I she'll not be donating, I have other charities close to my heart that I give monthly too.
