to think the 'common law/freeman on the land' thing is a whole load of bollocks?

I've come across a few people over the last few years that take it very seriously and bang on at length about how the police and courts have no authority over them as they are self declared 'freemen'. Something to do with common law being the only true law in Britain, I think? And not having to wear bike helmets or pay for TV licenses or repay your debts also seem important to the ones I've had the dubious pleasure of meeting.

A couple I met at the weekend have taken the biscuit though and not registered their baby's birth because apparently this will mean said baby grows up to be a 'freeman' (she's actually a girl but the term appears to be freeman anyway). They believe quite firmly that to register her birth will mean that the law assumes her and her name (which is a fucking corker, of course) are one and the same and that only by NOT registering her birth can she be free to be a human being. Quite what this actually means is a mystery to me and tbh the mumbo jumbo they gave me by way of an answer leads me to suspect they don't really know either Hmm

I've tried to read up on it but all the info I can find is written in a style you'd expect of an paranoid, delusional, and possibly hallucinating chimpanzee let loose with a legal dictionary.

So AIBU to think this is bollocky woo of the most fucking ridiculous type? Or is someone going to come along and actually enlighten me as to wtf its all about, preferably in plain English with no pseudo-legalese?

What will happen to you if you become ill and can't work, wtaylor?

Will you use the NHS? Will you want to claim out of work benefits? If not, how will you survive?

LisaMed · 19/01/2015 11:08

wtaylor1986

You came on here to say in public that you can avoid laws you don't agree with. You should defend that assertion in public. How is the Law Act 1996 Admiralty law?

btw when it comes to police do not confuse 'embarrassed' with 'can't be arsed to deal with tossers and I'm due to go off shift anyway'.

RandomNPC · 19/01/2015 11:30

Wow! What a nutter.

Brilliant!

FOTL stuff is like the mediaeval belief in magic. Get the words/submission/spell correct and apparently a whole new world opens up where the freeman will have power without responsibility, services without taxation etc etc.

There is no form of words that neatly excepts you from the rule of law. End of.

Icimoi · 19/01/2015 13:50

holyterror- yes they are under maritime law and acts and statutes can only given the enforcement of law with the publics consent.ask any police officer.

Would you care to give your precise legal authority for that? Only there are people on this thread who are very well acquainted with the law and say that is a load of rubbish. Frankly, I wouldn't expect a police officer to be able to give a reliable opinion on public and constitutional law unless he or she has a law degree.

i do not pay for paedophiles, fraudster m.p's, i dont pay for mass immigration from eu and afar. (most of those are freeloaders-why dont you aim your insult's at them, they sure as hell deserve them and some more). i dont pay for dole dossers, people that want loads of kids but want everyone else to pay for their kids, illness fakers (bad back man or woman pictured doing the limbo at a party).

Yet you say it is only council tax you don't pay. You do realise that benefits, MPs' salaries, the justice and prison systems and NHS are paid out of general taxation (including VAT) and not council tax, don't you?

Grow up, pal. You have a go at another poster for her language, yet you cannot formulate a coherent sentence. Perhaps you should have stayed at school instead of starting work at 14; you might have learnt how to use capital letters and apostrophes too.
You've been called out on your daft libertarian bullshit, it might wash on some of the madder boards, but not here. People on MN have too much intelligence, life experience, and compassion to fall for your sub-Randian nonsense. As you get older, you will realise that a decent society taxes those who work, in order to pay for the frail, the ill, and the disabled. We pay for the police, fire and health services. That's how it should be.

RandomNPC · 19/01/2015 18:31

I'm very, very glad that I don't live in your horrible, paranoid little world. I doubt you've ever met an immigrant from the EU or a benefit claimant. Your lack of empathy for other people demonstrates some rather worrying, deep seated issues.

WTaylor, you are i am afraid a parasite. You take the benefits of society - you drive on roads I assume? - but you won't pay any tax.

You spout guff about maritime law that is just made up nonsense.

If it isn't show me how. Show me how a parent in care proceedings will keep their child by shrieking 'man overboard' when the judge makes a final care order.

CupidStuntSurvivor · 19/01/2015 19:08

Eurgh. I actually know a real live nutter like this. I used to just smile and nod but then he started coming out with more and more conspiracy theories learned mainly via Facebook memes.

wtaylor am I to assume then that if your house was burning to the ground, you'd stand and watch it burn? Or do you also pay towards a private fire service?

AngelDreams · 19/01/2015 19:20

oh man - even knowing it was coming, when that guy got tasered, I did laugh

You pay emissions tax. Not road tax. Numpty.

wtaylor1986 · 19/01/2015 19:36

stupidcuntsurvivor- i am not a nutter but judging by your user name your trying to say something about yourself, the first 2 words i gathered you are and the survivor bit is just weird, why would you not want to survive (and i am the nutter) .like i said i live in a big apartment and it does has a sprinkler system.
but besides that i dont smoke , i dont fall asleep with things on. i am a really careful person. i have paids taxes buy havent for last 3 years. and earning over £200k a year i paid more than enough in ni& tax.
and my apartment around 350k i am in band h so its about 3k a year.
if something happened and i needed them i would donate money to them.
and my mate carl is the loacal watch commander and visits to check building very so often.

wtaylor1986 · 19/01/2015 19:37

stupidcuntsurvivor- well actually can you tell me what they spend the money on??
because if you think it goes on green energy then your talking crap.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/01/2015 19:38

You don't pay road tax, there's no such thing. You may pay an emissions tax but that's different. Road repairs is paid for out of general taxation inc income tax. I assume you also drive on roads lit with street lights?

You may have private health insurance as you have so much money.....which incidentally we'd all be able to afford if we didn't pay tax. However I can assure you if you got struck down with a rare illness, needed intensive care, had a bad traffic accident you'd be treated by the nhs.

What about the police force which keeps your streets safer? The prisons which keep convicted rapists and murderers locked up? Don't you feel that benefits you.

I happen to believe that we should pay for stuff we don't perhaps use ourselves if they benefit society. So I'm happy to pay for social services, respite care, schools, youth clubs, etc. society would soon degenerate into a much worse place if such services weren't in place.

CupidStuntSurvivor · 19/01/2015 19:42

(sigh) as if my user name has anything to do with this.

What you're actually saying is you're happy to reap the benefits of other people paying their council tax and keeping fire fighters in their jobs on your behalf. Council tax maintains roads you're willing to use. Ensures hedges that might obscure your vision while driving are trimmed. Ensures icy roads are gritted. It pays for ambulance services who'd be responding if you were in an accident, regardless of any private healthcare you may pay for. Police who'd attend if you were burgled or assaulted.

hotfuzzra · 19/01/2015 19:46

"i think its more you're ego's running on full power."
Aargh

wtaylor198622 · 19/01/2015 20:12

dont really drive on lit street as i live in the countryside, gritted by local farmers, same with hedge cutting & etc..
road repairs??? very questionable that one as the damage to my vehicles outweigh any council tax.
i can afford these because i work hard not because i dont pay for council tax. just to let you knowe aswell any serious ilnesses are covered by my private health care (that's what its for and nhs payed for by them)
ive nevert met many burglars or rapists in the countryside (probably a daily mail reader aren't you) i have a burglar alarm and full security system with automated gates. i also learned how to defend myself when i was younger. aikaido (variation of tai chi)
"happy to pay for social services, respite care, schools, youth clubs, etc"
i dont have kids, you make em you pay form em. i had experience in care when i was a kid and it wasn't nice at all. wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy (not conspiracy theory its fact through life experience)
ive seen a lot of people let down some kids in the home even lost their lives due to care staff negligence, it happens more than you think.

ALSO YOU'LL NOTICE IM USING A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT AS MY PASSWORD HAS BEEN CHANGED WITHOUT ME DOING SO. IM LOCKED OUT OF MY ACCOUNT I USED ABOVE, IF IT DOESN'T WORK WHY AM I HAVING ATTEMPTS TO KEEP ME QUIET??? SEEMS KIND OF ODD DOESNT IT.
you cannot take any statement as true on this forum as when you start telling the truth and explaining things they try and lock you out.
no wonder your all anti free man , because your moderators never give them a chance for you to find out.
enjoy the police state you are funding ever so well. you know what comes next removal of "your" rights. especially freedom of speech!

Well colour me tickled! I'm intrigued by an earlier point you made. Where exactly in a police officers oath does it mention common law? (I'll give you a clue, it doesn't)

CupidStuntSurvivor · 19/01/2015 20:23

Ah well, you live in the countryside and know aikaido. You're obviously fucking invincible.

Honestly, you really do beggar belief.
