WIBU to sneak a bulldozer in at night and flatten Stonehenge

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 12:35

to make trips back from the West Country less hideous?

I think anyone who has had to so this route in any school holiday, on any bank holiday or any weekend day starting on Thursday night from April to October would thank me.

Stop slowing down and looking at it you sods. Especially those of you in caravans.

If it were gone they could make a dual carriageway too.

The Frozen soundtrack on repeat and screaming baby are adding to my enjoyment of the queue.

:)

Can you not do a diversion to miss that part out?

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 12:39

No. I think it backs up from there to Exeter!

Just have a little nap and let the driver deal with it

Turn up the soundtrack to block the screaming baby, or better still, stick some headphones in and listen to your own music Wink

Ylvis Stonehenge

Youtube link, but I feel your pain. It might just cheer you up OP.

DrSnowman · 30/05/2014 12:48

The idea of wrecking stonehenge is a mean and horrible idea

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 12:52

So is driving past it.

Video is keeping me very entertained.

CiderwithBuda · 30/05/2014 12:52

Dr Snowman - it's a joke.

Mind you why it was built so close to the road I have no idea! Madness. Wink

OP - I feel your pain. It's a nightmare.

attheendoftheday · 30/05/2014 12:55

Oh absolutely. While we're at it we could demolish Edinburgh Castle to provide extra parking space and cut down the new forest to provide timber for cheap furniture.

Imagine looking at Stonehenge, the bastards...

Andrewofgg · 30/05/2014 12:57

Well, the Romans built the road to Bath near Heathrow, didn't they?

Let me tell you the secret of Stonehenge. It's a male public loo.

Helpys · 30/05/2014 12:59
Grin I chose to go via Stonehenge. I go all mystical and DRUIDY. It calls to me.
BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 13:02

Edinburgh Castle can stay as I'd probably get the train there.

Maybe it's because it's a public loo that it was built so close to the road. Presumably the Stone Age men enjoyed a nice view too.

Can't see why people go mad for this, it's not even finished - it needs pointing up

CoteDAzur · 30/05/2014 13:04

Nooo! If you flatten Stonehenge, where will the aliens land? [worried]

cardamomginger · 30/05/2014 13:06

Can't you play Spinal Tap Stonehenge when you drive past and make a feature of it?

KurriKurri · 30/05/2014 13:10

They should build a 'Stonehenge Lane' (Like a bus/cycle lane for those who want to drive past slowly, wonder and come over all Druidy) - I am one of the gawpers, and am quite unashamed, excuse the pun but Stonehenge rocks! Grin

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 13:11

We're through it now. Onwards to the average speed check on the M3! I'll add the cameras to my hit list.

AlpacaLypse · 30/05/2014 13:14

After many years of driving up and down to the West Country, we've decided that for anything past Exeter it's M4/M5. We've actually proved this now, leaving at the same time DP went via the 303 and I took the motorways. He spent 35 minutes dropping something off for his mum in Honiton, I spent an hour and 10 minutes in Lidl in Okehampton buying food for our s/c holiday. We'd taken a twin each to be witnesses.

I'd already finished a cup of tea and a cake with the landlady by the time he arrived!

Upsetwithfriend · 30/05/2014 13:39

Helpys Stonehenge predates the Druids!

halfdoneharris · 30/05/2014 13:43

YABU - I love to slow down to have a peek at Stonehenge. It makes the journey more enjoyable to the west country and if asked I would chose the A303 route just for my stonehenge guilty pleasure.

Sallyingforth · 30/05/2014 14:05

I drive down to Exeter regularly and I can't say that short section of road adds much to the overall journey time. Otherwise I'd use the M4-M5 instead.
Stonehenge has been there for thousands of years and will be there hopefully for ever. To plough up the site now just to speed up a few more decades of road transport until it is rendered obsolete, would be folly.
Actually I enjoy watching the pigs on the other side of the road!

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 14:20

Yes we like the pigs too so they can stay. They'll have to move over a bit when I make it into an M road though.

You're right, it's not just Stonehenge that makes the journey awful. All of the roundabouts will be removed too.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 30/05/2014 14:21

I musts be doing something wrong because I drive to Devon and back quite often from the south east and I never drive past Stonehenge!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/05/2014 14:21

As long as you don't drive over my field in it feel free

FoxSticks · 30/05/2014 14:25

I'm with you BingBong. Can we flatten the little chefs too just for being horrible?
