WIBU to sneak a bulldozer in at night and flatten Stonehenge

to make trips back from the West Country less hideous?

I think anyone who has had to so this route in any school holiday, on any bank holiday or any weekend day starting on Thursday night from April to October would thank me.

Stop slowing down and looking at it you sods. Especially those of you in caravans.

If it were gone they could make a dual carriageway too.

The Frozen soundtrack on repeat and screaming baby are adding to my enjoyment of the queue.

I used to live near there, and last time I got stuck in the traffic jam I thought 'well ok, I'll come off past stonehenge and go the back roads.' bastards have dug the road up and turfed it over , so there is no escape until the roundabouts. Angry

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 30/05/2014 14:30

No one warned me about the queues on the A303 this time last week before we went there! 3 times we ended up stuck in that bloody queue because of people slowing down to look.

However I do think they wouldn't need to slow down so much if you didn't have to pre book tickets just to go and see the damn thing in the first place. The queue made us miss out pre-booked slot (we were stuck around the corner from it for over an hour). Massive pita. I got a picture of it from the car window in the end.

I'm with you BingBong. Can we flatten the little chefs too just for being horrible?

Sallyingforth · 30/05/2014 14:38

With you on the little chefs.
But I like the roundabouts - they keep you alert. If you want a straight fast road with no roundabouts just use the M4.

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 14:49

Ah but we need to get off the A303 before Exeter so it's still quicker.

Consider the Little Chefs gone. I'll keep an exit road to Hindon as it has a good pub for lunch.

You'll need to keep the toilets open in the LCs. That's all we use them for!

Theodorous · 30/05/2014 14:54

I used to hate Stonehenge as a kid when you could actually get close to it. Now it's all souvenirs and turnstiles I dislike it even more. Flatten it.

Why oh why does the road go from 2 lanes down to 1. WHY.

Plant a hedge to stop the gawkers.

I'll be detouring via Sailsbury during the summer.

BigBongTheory · 30/05/2014 20:18

To add to the torment cereal. Try driving it at around 3am. It's might be clear then. Maybe.

I am so chuffed that I got to touch the stones at Stonehenge when I was younger. DH never did and DD never will I suppose Sad.

Sparklingbrook · 30/05/2014 20:23

Ugh, we got stuck on that road accidentally. Why does everyone slow down to gawp at it? Confused

It needs a big fence or something.

When does Glasto start? More traffic mayhem.

Panicmode1 · 30/05/2014 20:27

We always go via the back roads, much quicker. Especially now the Highways muppets have made the roundabout beyond the pigs SO much worse than it was before!!

MrsTaraPlumbing · 30/05/2014 20:29

When I was a teenager you could just walk up to it and touch those stones.
Now I live in Kent and have some family in Deven I also know from experience M4 & M5 is much faster.
Though as you say I miss out on the lovely view! so when I drive that way in August which route shall I take, yet to decide.

MrsTaraPlumbing · 30/05/2014 20:30

Devon! I know it is Devon

Oohhh you are brave! I've never had the courage to just waltz in and use the loo without buying a revolting breakfast. Don't they pounce on you and try and make you sit at a greasy table?

How about replacing them with nice M&S food to go with lovely toilets?
