To think the School overreacted in Expelling Pupil and calling Police for a stunt, when a "bollocking would have been enough".

Jacob Dowdle, a year 13 Pupil at Altrincham Grammar school on the last day of term May 16, put a paper plate with whipped cream in to his year heads face.

This was a very "Stupid" thing to do, but no harm was meant or injury caused yet the school called the Police and summary expelled him. The teacher was seeking a prosecution for the stunt, when she was not injured The teacher although upset , should have had the grace to except that it was a poor stunt , ( or like most teachers on the last day taken it on the chin as overexcited students behaviour).

Typical. Male assaults, belittles and humiliates female but the female is accused of overreacting. Sad

Un fucking believable.

Bettercallsaul1 · 28/05/2014 14:08

Apart from causing humiliation and upset to the teacher on the day, posting the footage on Facebook ensures ithe incident is never forgotten and results in a permanent loss of authority for that teacher. It is there for any future pupils to look at and snigger over. It also represents a permanent "triumph" for the assailant, immortalising the day he got revenge on someone in authority whom he disliked.

It was imperative that the school took immediate and decisive action to protect a member of its staff - both in terms of her safety and her future dignity.

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/05/2014 14:10

Lumpy

You might want to read the full thread and see that the teacher has the support of all but 3 (ish) posters.

DorisAllTheDay · 28/05/2014 14:28

No overreaction from HT at all. If I were a teacher in this school and an assault on a colleague had been put down to last day 'high jinks' then I would never want to go in on the last day again. It would make me feel very unsafe, and I'd feel that I was fair game for any student who took it into their head to attack or humiliate me. I'm glad to hear the HT did the right and sensible thing and involved the police.

Not sure how well the 'restorative justice' worked if the guy is now touting his story round the press, though. I thought restorative justice was supposed to be all about facing up to what you'd done and fixing the relationship. Doesn't seem to have happened here. More's the pity, as this could be the turning point that helps a stupid kid turn into a decent young man if handled properly.

passmethewineplease · 28/05/2014 14:32

He spounds like a twat.

Teacher did the right thing.

natwebb79 · 28/05/2014 14:35

What a horrid (not so) little twat. If a student did that to me at work I'd insist on police involvement too. I would also be pretty disgusted he'd been allowed to return to sit his exams. And what the hell does Jason Manford think he's doing supporting him?! Yet another reason to think about leaving teaching when the level of respect for teachers is lowered to 'of course they should put up with being assaulted for the fun of the little darlings in their care. It's a laugh, innit?'. FFS!!

No word from Pie Boy's maw and paw yet?

Usually the parents are crying out in defence of their boo boos.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/05/2014 14:53

Bone I have read the thread and I can see that. I was reacting to the article I read stating that over 800 people had signed a petition in the young mans favour and that some millionaire has already offered him a job.

Should have made myself clearer. Smile

riskit4abiskit · 28/05/2014 14:57

That young man is an absolute disgrace. Our year 7s would never do something like that never mind a 6th former. I too would feel humiliated if I were that teacher and I would struggle to go to work the next day knowing all the kids would be sniggering. Its definitely assault and I would push the police to press charges.

Ht sounds like a good man.

FriskyMare · 28/05/2014 14:58

My son is at this school and my nephews are ex pupils. Mr Gartside is an extremely well liked and respected HT. I am sure the majority of parents will be right behind him.

Pumpkinpositive · 28/05/2014 15:00

Does anyone have a link for this petition? Can't see it on Google.

I wonder if they let you leave comments. Grin

Bettercallsaul1 · 28/05/2014 15:00

I really hope someone in the public eye speaks up for the teacher and headmaster, to redress the balance.

Otherwise, the wrong message is being sent. It would be dreadful if this boy ends up profiting from this situation and becomes a hero to boot.

drudgewithagrudge · 28/05/2014 15:07

It was a plastic plate not a paper one. You can hear it rattle when it hits the ground. Saw it on the LBC website.

If the teacher had done that to a pupil there would have been an outcry.

Aspiringhuman · 28/05/2014 15:11

Perhaps the members of MN could write something in support of the school.

LangenFlugelHappleHoff · 28/05/2014 15:21

Full support for the school. What a twatish thing to do!

My sympathies are with the poor teacher, how humiliating and degrading. I'm glad the school is standing with her!

Bettercallsaul1 · 28/05/2014 15:22

Maybe her teaching union will issue a message of support - that would go some way to countering the job offers her ex-pupil is receiving. I can't believe someone would do that - talk about "crime paying".

I suggest you watch it again then :)

Sallyingforth · 28/05/2014 15:30

Serves the little bully right. I suspect some of his classmates were glad to see the back of him.
If teachers aren't even allowed to touch pupils then they deserve the same courtesy and protection.
I hope the incident and expelling goes onto his final school report, so he learns that actions bring consequences.

CalamitouslyWrong · 28/05/2014 15:30

Tbh, by starting the petition and contacting then the press, this horrible young man has really created the problem he's whinging about. Now it really will follow him around for the rest of his life because a quick internet search for his name will let potential employers (and girlfriends) know that he assaulted his teacher, put a video of the assault on Facebook and showed absolutely no remorse. A nice, permanent record of what a horrible person her is courtesy of very search engine optimised national newspaper websites.

Meeeep · 28/05/2014 15:33

I think it's really one of these things that depends on circumstance.

A teacher at my school got thrown in the pull on the last day and took it in good humour. She had a great relationship with the students who had planned it but it was known beforehand that this was something she would find funny.

Obviously the teacher in question here did not, therefore she and the head had every right to have involved the police.

I would very much doubt that this was intended to be a laugh and a joke with the teacher but more that she was disliked by this particular student and targeted. Now I have course could be wrong but I'd put my bet on that being the scenario.

Meeeep · 28/05/2014 15:33

pool not pull

MrsExcited · 28/05/2014 15:33

As a teacher myself i think there is the potential for there to be more here than meets the eye.

However, fun is not always fun for everyone.

In the last few years i have had a lit cigarette flicked in my face and been spat at in the face - neither of these resulted in expulsion - however it does make me question why i bother trying to impart information, in any other profession i would be protected!!!

Meeeep · 28/05/2014 15:34

and of course. Need to give up mumsnetting on my phone.
