To think the School overreacted in Expelling Pupil and calling Police for a stunt, when a "bollocking would have been enough".

Jacob Dowdle, a year 13 Pupil at Altrincham Grammar school on the last day of term May 16, put a paper plate with whipped cream in to his year heads face.

This was a very "Stupid" thing to do, but no harm was meant or injury caused yet the school called the Police and summary expelled him. The teacher was seeking a prosecution for the stunt, when she was not injured The teacher although upset , should have had the grace to except that it was a poor stunt , ( or like most teachers on the last day taken it on the chin as overexcited students behaviour).

whatchat, sorry!

whatchatalkinboutwillis · 28/05/2014 10:51

I've watched the video. All of the articles mention a paper plate. The video is not clear enough to show what the plate was made of.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/05/2014 10:51

If it had just been the prank, an isolated incident due to over excitement and he was hugely apologetic afterwards and accepted a more moderate punishment then you might have had a point about suspending him being a step too far. But that wasn't what happened. He then posted it online and refuses to get it taken down. He still shows no remorse or understanding that this situation is in any way his fault. I suspect that this wasn't an isolated incident of behaviour and that the school know him much better than we do.

Yes, the last day is usually full of fun and festivities but there is a line. And he crossed it. It isn't just about him though. The school have to show next year's yr13s that fun and high jinx doesn't mean 'anything goes'.

EvilTwins · 28/05/2014 10:52

As he runs away, a piece of the plate drops down, making a clinking sound and bouncing. It can't have come from anywhere else.

SolomanDaisy · 28/05/2014 10:52

Right decision from the school. I presume the university he wants to attend will reconsider their offer, since he thinks this is an amusing way to treat staff.

JennyCalendar · 28/05/2014 10:53

I fully support the school's response to this.

There is a massive difference between mutual jovial pranks and slapping a teacher in the face, pie or not.

I'm not sure if it was a china plate. I thought it looked like she had dropped a tea cup (outside on break duty?), not that it makes much difference.

If he is so worried about getting into university, why bring it to the attention of the media?

Disgusted that Jason Mansford supports him and that he has received a 20k job offer. What message does that send? It's ok to hit women / teachers?

SlightlyJadedJack · 28/05/2014 10:55

That was definitely a china plate breaking on her face not a paper one as he claims, you can hear it as it hits the floor! If someone hit me like that I wold also call the police. What a dick.

Or

A woman going about her daily work was assaulted, in an unprovoked attack by an adult male who was part of a gang of males who surrounded her and laughed at the assault, they also recorded the assault, placed it on face book and refused to remove it when asked by the woman's employer.

If you want to see the assault it is here

I think he should have got a criminal record not got away with an apology.

Now he is blaming her for his actions.

I hope the uni he has applied to withdraw his place.

TheEnchantedForest · 28/05/2014 10:57

Smoke pole-in no other job would this attack be normalised in the way you are seeking to. I find it horrifying that in some areas of the public , the view of teachers is now so long that they should have to just take it. Do you really believe that?

It is one aspect of a teacher's job to let a pupil know when they've gone too far-in order to prepare them for life. The teacher is doing just that. if this boy did the same thing in a job or at university-charges would be pressed.

AICM · 28/05/2014 10:57

I wonder how Jason Manford (the comedian who has said this is piss funny) would feel if someone did this to his wife?

Beeyump · 28/05/2014 10:59

Shock What a horrible thing to do! 'No harm was meant' - um, ok then Hmm I bet he wouldn't have done that to a male teacher.

EvilTwins · 28/05/2014 10:59

Sashh - it doesn't sound like he's actually applied yet. I wonder what his grades are like? No mention of that either. I bet he'll be using this as the reason he doesn't get into university whatever the circumstance.

TheEnchantedForest · 28/05/2014 10:59

So low

annielouise · 28/05/2014 11:00

He was completely out of line. However, it was definitely a paper plate, the plastic cup/bowl seems have come through the doorway as the door closes.

He should have just shut up, apologised profusely and taken his punishment rather than gone to the press about it. He has an unusual surname so won't be forgotten now and I think he's done himself more harm than good. Took it too far completely.

CheeseandGherkins · 28/05/2014 11:02

AICM aren't they separated/divorced now after he cheated on her?...

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 28/05/2014 11:03

And apparently he's now been offered a £20k job by a businessman. Fantastic.

NearTheWindymill · 28/05/2014 11:03

The school was right. I wonder, however, if he would have received the same sanction if he had assaulted another pupil in the same way. Just reminds of dd's school where a girl smashed another's head on a concrete pavement amongst a myriad of other things and a lot of excuses were made by the school. When she kicked a teacher and called her a cunt though, she was expelled Hmm.

ZenGardener · 28/05/2014 11:03

Actually I think you are right it is paper. You can see it is bent before the attack.

He said, 'But we’re not the best of friends, she’s just not got a sense of humour when it comes to me. I think that’s why they’ve taken it that far. If it was another pupil she liked she would have reacted completely differently.’

Definitely got history. Still would have hurt I bet and given her a hell of a fright.

bauhausfan · 28/05/2014 11:05

Probably a friend of his dad ... Well violence against women is hilarious isn't it - just like that nutcase 'virgin killer' in America. Nothing exists in isolation.

sashh · 28/05/2014 11:06

EvilTwins

He is predicted B grades, the Telegraph article says he wants to go to Newcastle 2015 so I assume he has a place.

Goblinchild · 28/05/2014 11:07

Perhaps we should be allowed to carry pepper spray as a response.

spanieleyes · 28/05/2014 11:07

Perhaps he shoud try shoving a cream pie in the businessman's face and see how long he lasts in his new job!

EvilTwins · 28/05/2014 11:08

I missed the bit about B grades. Daily Fail days he wants to do French and Business biut doesn't know where yet.

Pumpkinpositive · 28/05/2014 11:09

It wasn't him who posted it to the internet. One of his mates filmed and uploaded it. Just clearing that up.

Paper says he decline to name the mate who uploaded the video and part of his punishment reflects that.

SolomanDaisy · 28/05/2014 11:10

Actually I don't think he has a uni place, his predicted grades aren't good enough for Newcastle and he just says he wants to go there next year. He isn't coming across very well.
