To think the School overreacted in Expelling Pupil and calling Police for a stunt, when a "bollocking would have been enough".

Jacob Dowdle, a year 13 Pupil at Altrincham Grammar school on the last day of term May 16, put a paper plate with whipped cream in to his year heads face.

This was a very "Stupid" thing to do, but no harm was meant or injury caused yet the school called the Police and summary expelled him. The teacher was seeking a prosecution for the stunt, when she was not injured The teacher although upset , should have had the grace to except that it was a poor stunt , ( or like most teachers on the last day taken it on the chin as overexcited students behaviour).

My DS goes to this school. It's a really lovely school and all the boys I have come across have been unfailingly pleasant and polite. Sad that one idiot has caused such bad publicity.

I think the Mail must be camping out at the school- last week they ran a headline story of sixth formers having a drink wearing school blazers. Complete none story as they are 18, last day of school and the blazers were being worn as a joke (they wear suits in 6th form)

Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 22:21

This is one of those stories where you go from thinking 'well that was a young man who made an error of judgement' to 'what an appalling little piece of shite' in less than a day.

smokepole · 28/05/2014 22:22

Take it as my lack of education.....

It does not mean I have any time for someone , because I express a different opinion from the mainstream view.

I do think he will benefit from the incident, solely on the basis of his notoriety and by the way the media has been used ( possibly be using his dads experience as a information officer).

The mighty Ming...I think it's great publicity for the school. High standards, high expectations & no shit. They have come out of it v v well imho.

Borka · 28/05/2014 22:22

OP, have you actually watched the video? If you watch it and imagine that the plate & shaving foam aren't there, don't you think it looks exactly like a man hitting a woman hard in the face? You can see from the way his arm moves that he's putting quite a lot of force into it.

rosteri · 28/05/2014 22:23

And some lovely behaved people back him up.

The boy / man little fucker got away too lightly IMO.
Very nasty, not a prank at all. Shouldn't really judge a book by its cover but he loks like a self entitled bully in the pictures. Has probably never been disciplined by his parents. What a looser. He'll go form bad to worse Sad.

honeykitten · 28/05/2014 22:24

Sorry ... me again.

I remember as an NQT way back when Wink and having a snowball chucked at me. It hit me full on in the face and I was sporting a black eye.

To his credit the student concerned was apologetic but only because of the damage which he saw as "accidental" - I'm not sure he ever saw he shouldn't be chucking snowballs at people (unless in the context of a game and certainly not in people's faces!)

The thing with that was the snowball minimised the action and made it into something light hearted when blacking someone's eye in another context would be serious. This is what has happened here and it is worse because the cream makes it into a circus clown sort of prank - except these pranks aren't funny. Full stop. They're like a game of darts - okay if everybody knows the "rules" but liable to cause damage and hurt, not to mention humiliation, if not.

I can see how in some contexts a student would get carried away and do something stupid. I cannot see how, having seen his actions caused serious consequences for him and hurt and upset for someone else, he wouldn't offer sincere remorse.

I suspect he will benefit for about 18months. Then the notoriety and 15 minutes of fame will be over and he will go back to being a rude little fuck with a big blott on his cv.

CalamitouslyWrong · 28/05/2014 22:26

It's not the 'notoriety' that will cause him to benefit from this; it's the fact he's, as honey out it, rich, white and male.

The media campaign is to punish the poor woman and HT (but mostly the woman) who had the temerity to stand up to him.

princessconsuelobananahammock · 28/05/2014 22:27

Ha or not as his social media presence has not been well managed!!

AICM · 28/05/2014 22:27

In 2011 Jonnie Marbles was sent to prison for 4 weeks for doing the same thing to Rupert Murdoch.

Jacob is a very lucky man.

Does anyone know how the victim is feeling about this now?

I hope desperately that she is not feeling the way Honey did after her unpleasant incident.

If Ming is able to draw her attention to this thread, perhaps it might help her to see how real people feel about what she suffered.

restandpeace · 28/05/2014 22:29

It was a prank. Over teaction

TheMightyMing · 28/05/2014 22:29

Daily Mail standard shit!!!

What with all this and the Fred Talbot sex claims ( whilst employed at the school way back) - the Head probably feels like packing up and going home!

I have always been happy with standards of discipline- firm, compassionate and fair with any sanctions always proportionate.

My ankle was broken at school 5 years ago when a 'prank' went wrong. I accepted the sincere apology. This is not sincere, there is a level of force involved, he does not throw the plate but force it into her face. Plain nasty and scares me about society if so many people think being hit in the face is a reasonable expectation of the working day for women ( clearly leftie teachers so that is fine).

Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 22:36

I am often guilty of over teaction. It's because I am a wat.

honeykitten that's awful, and I'm sad to say you're not alone.

I too was a HOD. The year before I heft teaching I took a magazine off a girl's desk after she had kept picking it up and waving it around during a lesson. She went to grab it out of my hands (I'd already said she could have it back at the end of the lesson). She pinned me against the wall while the class banged their desks and chanted "mag-a-zine, mag-a-zine" repeatedly.

I had no support either and just a few days later was locked inside a classroom by a pupil who'd got hold of a master key while my class rioted and tried to get out.

Of course I'd had the temerity to return to work after undergoing mental illness to be greeted by pupils who told me: "we know you had a breakdown and we're going to make sure you have another one"

Despite all that I bear the pupils no ill will. That feeling is reserved for the SMT who not only let it happen but encouraged it until I left.

I work with offenders and substance misusers now and am no pushover, but I believe that no one deserves to be assaulted in their place of work. I wish I'd worked for this headteacher who obviously takes the safety of his staff seriously.
