To think the School overreacted in Expelling Pupil and calling Police for a stunt, when a "bollocking would have been enough".

Jacob Dowdle, a year 13 Pupil at Altrincham Grammar school on the last day of term May 16, put a paper plate with whipped cream in to his year heads face.

This was a very "Stupid" thing to do, but no harm was meant or injury caused yet the school called the Police and summary expelled him. The teacher was seeking a prosecution for the stunt, when she was not injured The teacher although upset , should have had the grace to except that it was a poor stunt , ( or like most teachers on the last day taken it on the chin as overexcited students behaviour).

For the record, your use of speech marks is also dreadful and nonsensical. Grin

Bellezeboobian · 28/05/2014 21:59

If a teacher responded 'in kind' they'd be sacked.

nauticant · 28/05/2014 21:59

So the job offer may well be fictional as part of a scheme to launder Dowdle Jnr's reputation to do a PR job that he's a good lad who's just prone to high spirits? And this is being done with Dowdle Snr and Lawrence Jones being mates behind the scenes?

What utterly dreadful people.

vindscreenviper · 28/05/2014 22:00

smokepole
CIO is Chief Information Officer, not usually a Director-level post, and the one at Manchester Airport Group is indeed called Dowdle.

DoctorDoctor · 28/05/2014 22:00

But the teacher clearly can't 'respond in kind' as she would - rightly - be criticised and seen as massively unprofessional. So the school have to take it seriously. I sincerely hope this boy doesn't end up at the university where I work. He sounds awful.

honeykitten · 28/05/2014 22:00

This is a long thread and as such I haven't read all of it.

I was a teacher, until 2009, and I was reasonably successful (head of department) and I left permanently after a similar incident. I was walking down the corridor carrying textbooks and was mobbed by a group of students. They surrounded me and started to chant in my face (I had put one of them in detention for telling a member of my department to piss off.)

I am ashamed to say I ended up crying, and cowering in a corner.

I was told by my headteacher my position at the school was untenable as, as HOD, I needed to be perceived as a strong teacher. I resigned and I haven't taught since.

It took a while before the humiliation went away and I still won't shop or socialise in the town I taught in.

That is what happened - no exaggeration on my part at all.

I now work in social services. I miss teaching but I won't go back.

I will however state that personally, in this instance I wouldn't have wanted to see the young man with a criminal record - IF he had shown real regret and remorse. He didn't, and that does make all the difference. One of the girls involved in mobbing me wrote me a letter of apology (I got it via a colleague) and I accepted it as I understood she was young and foolish. I bear her no ill will at all and appreciated her apology very much.

Bellezeboobian · 28/05/2014 22:03

honey I'm so sorry you went through that.

We all enjoy a bit of "passive aggressive" "bollocks"

IsItFridayYetPlease · 28/05/2014 22:04

"I would expect them to respond in kind to who had done it to them" - Can you imagine the outcry if the teacher had responded physically to "protect themselves"?

rosteri · 28/05/2014 22:05

Why are you so bothered by this incident?

Honey.Very sorry to hear this story. It is great credit to you that you bear no ill will to those involved in the incident you suffered from.

It's very, very easy to find out this sort of stuff now. The CIO at Manchester Airport is Garry Dowdle (that's on LinkedIn) and there is a four-member family called Dowdle living at an address in Atrincham, Cheshire WA15, of the right ages to be Pie Boy and his family (that's on 192.com).
And, also for the record, OP, there is no need to splatter Capital Letters around so freely.

This story is being featured on NorthWest Tonight now!

Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 22:11

Smoke pole

I think it is to Honeykittens credit that she bears no ill will to the pupil who genuinely expressed regret and apogised

She would, I suspect, have little time for an attention seeking twat who whined at the press and took no responsibility...like most of us.

Bluestocking · 28/05/2014 22:13

Honeykitten, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you. It sounds absolutely dreadful. At least one of the pupils had the decency to apologise.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 28/05/2014 22:14

Honey that's awful. So terrible that you weren't supported when you were the victim.

The fact that this boy has been rewarded after this incident and has shown no remorse sickens me. As other posters have said if it was some lad from an estate he wouldn't be receiving job offers. Sad

honeykitten · 28/05/2014 22:14

It's a gross insult to assume the teacher is some dour, prim woman unamused by her students' antics.

The point in that firstly I imagine she acted having taken advice from her union and/or headteacher, and secondly I think what struck me about the video (no doubt this will have been pointed out) - it was a china plate.

If the boys reaction had been along the lines of, "I can't believe it - what was I thinking? I am so sorry." I personally would not have gone to the police, given that he is 18 and I do think it started off as a silly prank. One that was ill-thought through and stupid but a silly prank nonetheless.

But his attitude has been disgusting. He might just as well have said, "I'm male, I'm white, I'm rich. I can do as I like."

rosteri · 28/05/2014 22:14

I meant why is the op bothered. I agree with you and many others Satans

princessconsuelobananahammock · 28/05/2014 22:14

A ha I love mumsnet!! So Lawrence Jones is an old buddy of Dowdle Snr. Genius.

People very rarely comment on grammar on this site smokepole. How do you respond to what was said about your opinion? It seems clear that that is where the stupidity lies.
