To think the School overreacted in Expelling Pupil and calling Police for a stunt, when a "bollocking would have been enough".

Jacob Dowdle, a year 13 Pupil at Altrincham Grammar school on the last day of term May 16, put a paper plate with whipped cream in to his year heads face.

This was a very "Stupid" thing to do, but no harm was meant or injury caused yet the school called the Police and summary expelled him. The teacher was seeking a prosecution for the stunt, when she was not injured The teacher although upset , should have had the grace to except that it was a poor stunt , ( or like most teachers on the last day taken it on the chin as overexcited students behaviour).

If you knew it was bad, smokepole, why didn't you correct it before posting?
You were criticising a school and teachers, after all.

emotionsecho · 28/05/2014 20:34

Spot on Aspiring.

I find nothing vaguely amusing about people pushing pies in other people's faces, or throwing eggs at them. If someone pushed a pie into Michael Gove's face I would expect them to be dealt with the same as the man who threw eggs at John Prescott, who was prosecuted under the law of common assault.

However, you smokepole, seem to think that unpopular people deserve to be assaulted, humiliated or embarrassed merely for the sin of people not liking them and I think that is a disgraceful attitude.

Bellezeboobian · 28/05/2014 20:35

No-one should get anything shoved into their face no matter who they are. It's wrong. This teacher could have been an absolute twat but it doesn't matter. At all.

Groovee · 28/05/2014 20:35

It wasn't the school who caused this... He did, at 18 he should know actions have consequences and if someone feels they have been assaulted then we shouldn't be victim blaming but pointing the blame at the School Boy who thought he was above it all.

He shoved a plate of some sort of cream or shaving foam in someones face, having had a friend record it.
He then put it on the internet and refused to remove it.
When the police speak to him, he sets up a petition and runs to the press making himself look like a self indulged child who won't take no for an answer.

He only has himself to blame and instead of bleating about how hard done by he is, realise that over the UK people think of him as someone who thinks nothing of assaulting women!

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 28/05/2014 20:35

to be fair, its tricky to see if its a paper plate or, in fact a china bowl dropped by the teacher, as the version I am seeing is pixilated over her face and hands.

but, other than that, its assault. I feel very sorry for her, as a fellow teacher, this would be very intimidating.

BoneyBackJefferson · 28/05/2014 20:40

smoke

"the schools reaction has facilitated this."

Once again the schools reaction hasn't facilitated anything. they followed the rules by reporting an assault to the police.

This idiots response is to go public, unfortunately some of the public due to various campaigns hate teachers so he will get support from them.

I would hope that the school doesn't back down and tells him to get lost.

In fact given the bad publicity that the school is getting they would be in their rights to stop him from entering the premises to take his exams.

Springheeled · 28/05/2014 20:40

smokepole my punctuation goes to pot on here and I'm embarrassed by it- as you should be by your grammar. But your grammar could be impeccable and your views on this matter would still be odious.
As for Gove and a custard pie- not funny either and still assault. However, disrespect for teachers comes all the way down from him to- some- pupils.

Bellezeboobian · 28/05/2014 20:42

I had a home, a job and baby at 18. He's shoving plates in a woman's face. Ridiculous.

IamRechargingthankYou · 28/05/2014 20:45

And how have all the other boys - including the one that filmed it been punished? And because the boy didn't name the Youtube poster doesn't mean he did it.

He definitely has a paper plate in his hand - a china one doesn't fold in the middle. You can see that on the ground after the cream pie assault. Yes there is another dish/object that falls that sounds like china, but well after the teacher has moved out of screen and it seems to fall off the door.

I do feel very sorry for this teacher, and I do think all these boys need punishing, with particular punishment for the Youtube poster as
that seems the most calculated to humiliate. But a part of me can't help but think that an element of youthful exuberance - that rush you get when you realize this really is the final day - just went too far.

I'm not sure that a police prosecution is necessarily the way to go.

smokepole · 28/05/2014 20:46

The original story in the " Manchester Evening News" clearly states Plastic plate was Shoved in to teachers face.

Teachers ( or those claiming to be , on other sites have said that the school overreacted), People on this site need to get out more and read what is being posted on other sites. They need to stop reading the Monotone views expressed on a daily basis here.

I have said it was unpleasant , unjustified and not appropriate numerous
times on this thread , I have also said that perhaps the worst of it was the posting on the Internet ( Possibly the reason for the Exclusion).

What happens or does not happen to Jacob Dowdle has no impact on my Life . It is quite wrong to compare the "Horrific" Incident in Leeds ( Possibly one of the Best Teachers in the Country) to this. The only people who know whether this was a "planned" attack ,or a "Prank" gone wrong are the people who undertook it.

If someone did this to you in the street it would be assault. Just as this is.

As if we could ever freakin forget that sovery....and no I haven't said that to be provocative, just confirming what you've said.

Even the comments page of the Mail seems in agreement with mumsnet, which must be a first, so I'm not sure which sites you are on smokepole

blueemerald · 28/05/2014 20:58

Someone filmed it. Someone knew it was going to happen. They must have been told before. This demonstrates planning. I do agree that other students should also be reprimanded.

I certainly do not need to read the Daily Fail or the Manchester Evening News to form an opinion. I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself.

IsItFridayYetPlease · 28/05/2014 21:00

"Teachers ( or those claiming to be , on other sites have said that the school overreacted)" Not much agreement with that statement here

Goblinchild · 28/05/2014 21:02

I was just thinking that I'd not seen much support for him on the TES forums.
So which other sites?

intheenddotcom · 28/05/2014 21:03

At my school posting ANY video/photo online that involves teachers, students in uniform or is filmed on the school site will lead to fixed term exclusion. I can only imagine filming an assault on a member of staff would lead to permanent exclusion.

Why? Because we don't agree with you? Are you just goading? I'm quite happy with my proffesional opinion on this issue. It's quite current for most teachers as we have just dealt with year 13 going off on study leave. In my school we had to take action before the 'day' to ensure nothing of this kind happened. This year we were lucky and year 13 went off nicely, without massive incident. In other years I've dealt with more serious situations.

They need to stop reading the Monotone views expressed on a daily basis here.
Again, why? Because you don't like the opinions expressed here? If you'd read much of mumsnet you'd know that a wealth of wildly different opinions get expressed here.

Aspiringhuman · 28/05/2014 21:05

I don't care if some people support him, it doesn't make what he did ok.

Incidentally, I asked my 8 year old about this earlier, even she knew what he did was wrong.

Morgause · 28/05/2014 21:06

Which sites? I haven't seen any teachers saying what you say, OP.

Making it up as you go along now?

Bellezeboobian · 28/05/2014 21:06

smoke would you be happy if he had done this to your daughter (if you have one), videoed it and put it online?
