To consider boycotting waitrose for this?

I bought some Waitrose sesame oil this week. On the label it's described as "for seasoning salads, stir fry's and oriental dishes" (offending grammar highlighted). Surely Waitrose of all places should be checking this stuff? Is nowhere safe from the rogue apostrophe?

Outrageous! Boycott away...

SoleSource · 27/05/2014 21:55

Go to Arrods instead.

I've just completed an online order with them. I feel like cancelling it now. I cannot stand rogue apostrophes.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 27/05/2014 22:00

Waitrose? Really? I'm disappointed. I'd write to them immediately.

mycatlikestwiglets · 27/05/2014 22:05

I'm wondering if they'll give me a refund on quality grounds tbh

Virginiaplain1 · 27/05/2014 22:14

Our branch rearranged their aisles a while back. They put up a temporary sign directing customers to the 'stationary' department. I was disgusted.

AnyoneforTurps · 27/05/2014 22:16

Bastard's. Yes to the boycott - its the only way theyl'l learn.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 27/05/2014 22:19

YANBU.

You'd feel unclean and need a hot shower if you ate anything you'd cooked with it. Fuckers.

Phoenix2014 · 27/05/2014 22:25

I have some in my cupboard. I sent them an e-mail - pedant that I am - but didn't get a reply.

Catsize · 27/05/2014 22:27

Arson.

Phoenix2014 · 27/05/2014 22:28

Just checked. I e-mailed them back in February.

cjelh · 27/05/2014 22:42

Its news to me. I may give my waitrose card back in protest.

SuedeEffectPochette · 27/05/2014 22:53

Waitrose should make less mistakes.

I think stir-fry's looks like it's going to win the language battle here, stir-fries also looks rubbish, and more people seem to think it looks more rubbish than with the apostrophe.

YABU, language changes.

Kleinzeit · 28/05/2014 00:04

They put up a temporary sign directing customers to the 'stationary' department.

They could have put up a permanent sign, since it wasn’t going anywhere….

I think stir-fry's looks like it's going to win the language battle here... YABU, language changes.

Really? With the apostrophe gets 50,000-odd hits on Google, and many of them are legitimate uses of the apostrophe (relating to businesses named "Stir Fry", sentences like "improve your stir fry's flavour by adding x" etc). The correct plural gets 1.3 million hits.

I think it's early to be talking about language changing!
