To consider boycotting waitrose for this?

I bought some Waitrose sesame oil this week. On the label it's described as "for seasoning salads, stir fry's and oriental dishes" (offending grammar highlighted). Surely Waitrose of all places should be checking this stuff? Is nowhere safe from the rogue apostrophe?

Sickening. Let us know how they respond to your outraged email. I complained to Tesco once about a mistake on the front of a greetings card; they didn't even reply.

springbabydays · 28/05/2014 06:48

Oh language changes so why should we bother having any standards? Tsk. Hmm

This is shocking. I don't shop in waitrose so I'm already boycotting!

JamJimJam · 28/05/2014 06:53

I (unwittingly) bought a card once from M&S that had 'Thank's' on the front.

Icimoi · 28/05/2014 07:13

YANBU. Tell them I'm boycotting them too till they sort this out.

My eyes are burning from some of the replies on this thread! Perhaps I need to do a follow up to Phoenix's email from February

To be fair, stationary may not be inaccurate. Perhaps all the others were moving around a lot.

fredfred - Language does change, and new words are being added to English all the time. But an apostrophe in the wrong place changes the meaning of a sentence, so that can't change.

Rhonda - big lol!!!

Nancy66 · 28/05/2014 10:30

your been a bit over the top. Its there choice. Get off you're high horse.

dorathedestroyer · 28/05/2014 10:34

Tsk. They really should of checked something as basic as that.

I'm going in today for my free tea. Would you like me to have a word with them?

Nancy66 · 28/05/2014 10:39

clover - only if you isn't got anythink better to do

fascicle · 28/05/2014 11:01

fredfred
I think stir-fry's looks like it's going to win the language battle here, stir-fries also looks rubbish, and more people seem to think it looks more rubbish than with the apostrophe.

Take out the hyphen. 'stir fries' looks fine to me.

mycatlikestwiglets · 28/05/2014 11:18

Snigger at Clover, please do mention it!

PeterGriffinsPenisBeaker · 28/05/2014 11:55

I can't boycott Waitrose, I'm already boycotting my local Tesco for their "Confectionary" aisle and a misplaced apostrophe on some sweet gem lettuce. And it's not as if the local farm shop spells everything correctly either...

IDugUpADiamond · 28/05/2014 13:22

Yeah, boycott away, that'll learn them...

DealForTheKids · 28/05/2014 13:26

Badgers, I'm also boycotting Tesco on account of their 'same luxury, less lorries' logo on their toilet roll.

It's a hard life, being a grammar pedant. But someone's got to do it...
