To think that women cannot 'see' HD?

I was having dinner with friends and there was some banter about my mate's new HD TV.

When his wife is watching it he always walks in and makes a huge fuss about why she's not watching said programme in HD. Apparently she cannot tell the difference so I turned to my wife and asked if she could on ours, "I cannot tell the difference either" she says Shock

I remember having the same conversation with another mate at work so am wondering if my huge sample size (of three) is representative of the entire female population?

Or perhaps some women just don't give two hoots about stuff that men get so hyped up about?

I wish I could 'like' half the comments on here - so very entertaining (and I don't mean that in a sarcastic way)! Our TVs are defo of the first generation variety and I actually find the whole viewing experience WORSE in HD. It goes super-grainy - I feel like I'm back I the 1980s. Frankly the whole HD thing feels like a conspiracy to encourage us all to go out and buy new televisions! And I am defo not a technophobe - I was the one that subscribed to HD... Go figure. And why does HD default to JD every SINGLE time I write it... Aargh!?!!

I used to have the EXACT same conversation with my husband. The bloody annoying thing is, he huffily changed the channel for me that many times that now I can see the difference!!! Angry Grin

Having worked in TV I can definitely 'see' HD I even 'see' which medium the material was originally shot on, but like many others couldn't give a shit... Largely because most TV the content is uninspiring crap and wouldn't be improved by watching it on 3D surround sound let alone HD

I remember vividly when we first bought an HD TV and a blu-ray player. The blu-ray we had was The Matrix, we put it on and DP was pointing at the screen in wonder and imploring me to marvel at the HD-ness of it. I was interested for about two seconds, then adjusted and was non-plussed from that point on. He couldn't believe I wasn't more impressed.

Yeah, I can see the difference, but like most others on this thread it doesn't seem THAT much better to me watching something in HD than in regular mode, really.

I am a woman who loves technology and gadgets, but HD TV is far down on my list of favourite technological innovations.

I'm old enough to remember when colour TV came in Grin This discussion's exactly the same! Dunno about you, but I can still get engrossed in a really good B&W film and 'forget' about colours, never mind nose hairs.

I reckon all these DHs who keep going on about it are pathetically devoid of imagination Wink

Garlic, I agree with every word in your post Grin

I can tell the difference but I think that HD looks really odd and a bit too real. I sort of like the dull, flat appearance of normal telly. I can't see the fuss over HD, it seems like just another pointless thing we're told we should want which we don't actually need in any way whatsoever.

I only ever see it at my parents' house though - we don't have a TV and we only watch things on the laptop.

Also I did watch Star Trek in HD and found it genuinely unpleasant. The detail was so fine I could see Jim Kirk's pores on his nose (urgh). It made me feel quite queasy tbh.
