That ukip are making such huge gains in the elections.
If mnetters could temper their hysteria of screaming racism, I think it is a clear indication that the fundamental principals of the party of no toEurope and no to continued mass immigration are very important to a lot of people

Yes I'm beginning to feel a little sorry for claig now. It must be difficult to have so little ability to sustain debate.

StarGazeyPond · 24/05/2014 20:00

Oh and he employs his wife while claiming no one else can do the job

Ummmm......this sounds so familiar......now was it the Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem?......oh no, all 3 have done it when claiming massive fraudulent expenses. At least he is giving a job to an EU migrant!!!

OneStepCloser · 24/05/2014 20:00

claig come on then, seriously if hes willing to do a deal with the Tories then hes very much establishment. Talk is cheap, deal with the devil etc.. as Clegg found out, deal with the Tories and all honour is lost, all they would give him is a referendum.

If he wants to be taken seriously he needs to take his time building a party, otherwise he will be seen as any other politican - self serving.

auntjane2 · 24/05/2014 20:01

I don't understand why people are voting UKIP in local council elections. They've always struck me as a single issue party, to get Britain out of the EU, but surely local government can have little to do with this?

JassyRadlett · 24/05/2014 20:01

Sorry, claig, if you can't back up what you've claimed as fact, I'll assume it's bollocks. You can believe what you like about tabloid political eds, I've mentioned the education of some if them eg Dave Wooding, you've got nothing to back up your claims. So I'm going to assume you made it up. Why should I have to prove (or disprove?) what you're claiming as fact?

Duckierub · 24/05/2014 20:01

"Us is the people, all of us, of any race. We pay the taxes that fund the bath plugs for MPs. It is us, the disenfranchised, the deceived, the powerless, the lied to, the spun to. Us is the people."

What people? What on earth are you talking about?

claig · 24/05/2014 20:02

'He wants out of the EU but is prepared to trouser money as an MEP while rarely turning up. He's carefully put himself forward for seats at Westminster to gain maximum publicity while having no chance of winning. He spins the image of himself as a man of the people when he has no idea how most ordinary people live. He is giving the impression he'll do a deal with just about anyone who'll advance his personal power.'

Farage works with the world as it is. He is in the EU so that he can pull its walls down. He works there and makes speeches there and is rightly paid for what he does.

I think he will stand in a seat for this election and he will get in.

Farage is so talented, so popular, such a great speaker that he could easily have been leader of the Conservative Party if personal power and glory were his aims. He eclipses all of the others. But he has principles. He fought for 20 years and was mocked as a "fruitcake" by people who couldn't hold a candle to him and he opposes the establishment stance on Syria and Ukraine out of principle.

Duckierub · 24/05/2014 20:03

Claig is this some kind of wind up?

JassyRadlett · 24/05/2014 20:04

StarGazey, just because the others (the loathed 'establishment') have done it - and been criticised for it - does it make it ok for Farage? Running a political office doesn't require skills that can only be performed by a spouse. I say this of all parties. However Farage is employing a foreign national, this directly displacing a British person who could have that job.

Which is fine if she's the best candidate, in my book. Is she? How do UKIP supporters feel about an EU migrant displacing a British worker?

JassyRadlett · 24/05/2014 20:04

Why didn't Farage stand for Newark, then?

JanineStHubbins · 24/05/2014 20:04

^^^ that's a fucking terrifying level of hero-worship in any democratic society.

JanineStHubbins · 24/05/2014 20:05

That was to Claig's latest adoring missive, by the way

claig · 24/05/2014 20:09

'How can you support a party where this ^ is the best you can do? This is like gcse debating society level'

Because I believe in those things. I want the people to make their own laws and I want a reformed democracy based on proportional representation so that every green voter and every UKIP voter and every anti-GM food campaigner and every anti-fracking campaogner can be properly represented and so that their votes count. I want real change so that the people decide in referenda what to spend their tax money on, not our elected representativeas in sofa government, with bath plus in their pockets, who may decide to go to war when 2 million people march against it in the streets of London.

I want democracy, I want a populist party to be in charge so that the people are listened to and have their say. I want a better future. I am against the status quo. I won't be fooled again and nor will millions of others and that is why this is a political earthquake.

"There are feathers everywhere"

and I like it.

You may prefer Gordon Bennett, but I am afraid I don't.

JassyRadlett · 24/05/2014 20:09

Janine, I agree. It's quite disturbing in a modern western country with a diverse, free press and full access to social media.

ilovesooty · 24/05/2014 20:10

Star I'm not disputing that, but claig isn't seeing that Farage is as corrupt as anyone.

He'd probably still be with the Conservative party if he saw any personal gain in it. I'd like claig to tell us how he's tearing the EU walls down and how he can justify getting paid with such a poor attendance record.

claig · 24/05/2014 20:11

'You can't compare Farage to George Orwell'

Well who is he comparable to then? Gandhi?

OneStepCloser · 24/05/2014 20:11

Erm, ok, your last statement is um, well, interesting, not sure if its serious or not [wibble]

OneStepCloser · 24/05/2014 20:12

Sorry, the one at 20.02

Duckierub · 24/05/2014 20:12

Claig is not serious she is winding us up

claig · 24/05/2014 20:12

'Claig is this some kind of wind up?'

Of course I like to have a laugh, but I support UKIP seriously. I want change and the polls show that there are thousands who want it to.

OneStepCloser · 24/05/2014 20:13

Oh God and the one at 20.11.

ilovesooty · 24/05/2014 20:14

I think you've moved a long way from your former political stance claig

At one time you stated that you saw no need to vote for anyone but the Conservatives, describing them as the party of truth. I wonder when you will realise that Farage is as big a spinner and liar as anyone else in politics?

JassyRadlett · 24/05/2014 20:15

When you compare the actions and life choices of Farage to either Orwell or Gandhi, you see why people say the comparison isn't valid.

The extreme personal sacrifice is a key point.

claig · 24/05/2014 20:17

'claig come on then, seriously if hes willing to do a deal with the Tories then hes very much establishment.'

He said he would deal with the devil. Is the devil establishment?

Farage is a man of principle as has already been well established. This is not about Farage's future or power or how many bath plugs he can stick in his pocket. He believes in an idea - to get the UK out of the EU. I know it's novel for a politician to believe in something, but he really does. Of course he should do a deal for that because that is more important than his career. He is not a career politician like the rest. He doesn't spin. He is different. He is one of us and that is why we are voting for him.

claig · 24/05/2014 20:19

'I don't understand why people are voting UKIP in local council elections. They've always struck me as a single issue party, to get Britain out of the EU, but surely local government can have little to do with this?'

auntjane2, it is about more than that. It is about representing the people. The people believe Farage represents them and the political class has ignored them. They want to kick the political class out and vote UKIP in.
