That ukip are making such huge gains in the elections.
If mnetters could temper their hysteria of screaming racism, I think it is a clear indication that the fundamental principals of the party of no toEurope and no to continued mass immigration are very important to a lot of people

I don't believe so viviennemary - looks to me as if they have merely replaced the Libdems as the protest vote, and they never got anywhere come the General Elections whatever they did!

BMW6 · 23/05/2014 10:49

Not a worthwhile post Back. If you have nothing rational to post, then keep quiet and don't embarrass yourself.

Backinthering · 23/05/2014 10:52

I'm really shocked and saddened that so many people have chosen to vote for a party with such vile policies. I would have no time for anyone I knew personally if I found out they had voted for them. That post summarises my feelings on the matter and I stand by it. I'm not embarrassed by it either, and nor are you the thread police. If you don't like my post, feel free to report it.

OxfordBags · 23/05/2014 10:54

When I call UKIP supporters thick, I'm presuming people understand that that covers racism, etc.

Boaty · 23/05/2014 10:58

I know quite a few people who voted UKIP Confused, they have the attitude that all politicians say what they would do and the reality is something different therefore although they have some unsavoury policies they probably would never be implemented anyway.
I also think there are far more racists/bigots in the population than we would care to admit and they now have a more acceptable party to vote for with a better chance of success.
Hmm
We are just all nice on here! Grin

purits · 23/05/2014 10:59

calling masses of the electorate "thickos" is pretty unintelligent itself imo.

but typical of the Left. They cannot abide the thought that others don't agree with them; they cannot comprehend it despite all their alleged support for diversity. An amusing irony.

Viviennemary · 23/05/2014 11:11

I think the insults against UKIP voters are pathetic. It does smack of let's not give the peasants a vote. They might vote for the wrong party.

funnyossity · 23/05/2014 11:11

Oh I don't think Boris, Dave olr Nick Clegg think much to the electorate either!

theroseofwait · 23/05/2014 11:13

I'm still not seeing the racism - racism by it's defintion is thinking that one race is superior to others and favouring members of that race. The UKIP candidates round here are an equal mix of black, white and Asian men and women. How does that demonstrate racism and where is the policy that states or can be interpreted as 'we think black people are better than white people, or white people are better than Asian people, and we will discriminate accordingly?'

bigdog888 · 23/05/2014 11:14

Well I'm certainly not thick - in fact I am more intelligent than most people and have been well educated. I voted UKIP as I agree with more of their policies than any other party but I don't agree with all of them. But that's the joy of a democracy and everyone's entitled to their own opinions as much as you may disagree. Personally I consider Labour voters to be absolute scum - always have and always will.

tabulahrasa · 23/05/2014 11:15

It seems UKIP think their voters are thick too to be fair.

funnyossity · 23/05/2014 11:18

OK I'm starting a new party , don't know the name yet but slogan is "I'm alright, you're alright."

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 23/05/2014 11:18

I don't think it proves anything of the sort.

The voter turn out was around 36% of eligible voters - the only winners of low turn outs are extreme groups that can make bigger gains with the smaller pushes that they can do. If these votes were put to the same standards that the Tories want for union votes, it would be considered null and void. They also had a lot more people standing than most of the other extreme right wing groups.

The fact that there are multiple extreme right wing groups (4 on our ballot of a small city, I know there are others) shows more about the nature of extreme groups within the UK and how they organize rather than proves a lot of people want what they say - I would hope it would not be said that that showed that that kind of Britain is what the people want: xenophobic, insular, lacking in care for others (UKIP wants to get rid of maternity and paternity pay, sick pay, and wants businesses to be able to turn people away for any reason), lacking basic knowledge of this country and the UK and being fine with hypocrisy (Farage has had two German wives who can only be here through the rules of the EU...).

I find the low voter turn out quite sad - people pay well over a thousand of pounds, plus the application, exam, and ceremony to get that right that I've had people laugh about that they can't be bothered to do. And this is what happens - those who can't will suffer the most harm because we're the target that's being used to divide people.

StarGazeyPond · 23/05/2014 11:20

UKIP party of cunts for cunts.

Well...........the cunts are winning Grin

Backinthering · 23/05/2014 11:22

It's fascinating though, a real insight into how the National Socialists got into power.

funnyossity · 23/05/2014 11:24

Oh give over..

Deverethemuzzler · 23/05/2014 11:26

The cunts are not winning.
They have no control. What they do have is the opportunity to show how utterly pointless they are.

Essex man is going to be expecting the sun to shine all summer, the local chippy to be staffed by rosie cheeked maidens (but still be open till 1am), to get council houses for all of his offspring and for them to suddenly have well paid proper jobs.

Now UKIP have so many gains in his home county.

But they are going to do fuck all and then blame it on BBC bias and leftie propaganda, misrepresentation of their views and the odd swivel eyed loon who snuck in under their radar.

You might win seats by holding up a pint and smoking a fag whilst talking about the Good Old Days but you won't get much else done.

Viviennemary · 23/05/2014 11:29

Most of the free thinking socialists I know cannot comprehend how anybody with intelligence or a conscience can vote for anyone but Labour. There must be a lot of people out there lacking both. Any party that can vote Miliband as leader doesn't deserve anybody's vote. IMHO.

funnyossity · 23/05/2014 11:32

Oh Backinthering's deleted post was rather a funny juxtaposition.

Backinthering · 23/05/2014 11:33

I think it's been many a long year since Labour has been anything remotely resembling Socialist. Courtesy of Blair they re-invented themselves as neo-liberals.

funnyossity · 23/05/2014 11:34

Devere I think that is true, UKIP don't come across as competent.

Deverethemuzzler · 23/05/2014 11:35

Yeah that seems to be the default when talking about 'free thinking socialists'
that they are all really closet fascists.

Oh and they read the guardian and have never met an immigrant.

We are all like that. Its in The Rules that come with your Hope not Hate badge.

normalishdude · 23/05/2014 11:36

I think I got as far as someone saying that UKIP is a party for 'thickies' before I had to stop reading in exasperation. Even if that's true, should 'you' deny 'thickies' an opinion/voice? Jesus.

Fluffy40 · 23/05/2014 11:46

The electorate were told USE your vote! and they did just that !!
