to expect a 39 y/o dh to know you don't eat the skin of an avacado

NC but regular. Left ds and dh with dinner last night, I didn't prep the avacado as I didn't want it to go brown but left a note that the two ripe avacadoes were to go with it.

I find out this morning that dinner was had, but the avadoes weren't good as the skin was really tough and difficult to chew...

if there was a list of first world problems... Grin

Kantha · 17/05/2014 07:42

Grin Love the fact you feel the need to name change for this one: the shame! Wink

YANBU BTW

ViviPru · 17/05/2014 07:43

Haha @ name changing for this!

SanityClause · 17/05/2014 07:43

YANBU!

Surely he has eaten avocado before. Did he try to eat the stone, as well?

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/05/2014 07:44

you don't eat the stone? Shock

you'll be telling us next that you're meant to cut the spikey bits off a fresh pineapple

momb · 17/05/2014 07:49

Hahaha!
Made me think of this!

Let me guess - "peel half the potatoes"...

NorahBone · 17/05/2014 08:15

My dad didn't know how to eat kiwi fruit until a few years ago because he'd always had it prepared for him (I'm guessing fruit salad...?) Before his first attempt I (jokingly) told him you don't eat the pips. Then found him trying to pick them out individually.

NorahBone · 17/05/2014 08:16

Should I have name-changed for that? My poor father...

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 17/05/2014 08:25

I remember going out to a restaurant with DH once, we both had garlic-y prawns in their shells as a starter.

When we'd finished, I looked at DH's completely empty plate and said, oh, what did you do with your shells?

Shells? he said... Hmm

SagelyNodding · 17/05/2014 08:26

Went food shopping with a v close friend a few years ago and there was a 3 for 2 offer on avacados so I gave her one saying that my dc liked them mashed up. She took hers home and peeled and boiled it, then called me to say that it wasn't very nice!

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 17/05/2014 08:26

Hahaha! YANBU.

sashh · 17/05/2014 08:35

maryquite

If you prep them and then put the stone back in the stone stops them going brown. Tip from a genuine Mexican who makes the most amazing guacamole.

But of course you will need to leave a note for dh and ds not to eat it.

MrsWinnibago · 17/05/2014 08:37

BrokenSleep my SIL eats the shells...she likes them!

WhateverHappenedToJasonStyles · 17/05/2014 08:44

My then 40 year old DH wanted to chop down the quince tree in our new garden because "them's really awful pears" Well yes, raw quince are rank Hmm Grin

diddl · 17/05/2014 08:45

I don't get the "peel half the potatoes".

Well I do except that all the potatoes have been half peeled.

"Surely he has eaten avocado before."-well I'd be guessing not!

Although you would think that the toughness of the skin would make it sensible to peel it!

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/05/2014 08:47

This thread is making me laugh!

Helpys · 17/05/2014 08:51

Grin at name change, you would, wouldn't you!

mrspremise · 17/05/2014 18:18

I eat the prawn shells too... Smile

LangenFlugelHappleHoff · 17/05/2014 18:31

sashh you can eat the stones if you grind them. They are full of goodness Smile

ShakyStart · 17/05/2014 18:47

To expect a woman over the age of thirty to be able to spell avocado........

Watto1 · 17/05/2014 18:55

When asked if he enjoyed his first ever kiwi fruit, my step father replied "Not really. It was too hairy!"

FraidyCat · 17/05/2014 18:59

Reminds me of the Carry On film where a character encounters a banana for the first time, throws away the "pip" and tries to eat the skin.

My DD eats orange peel, not so keen on the actual orange.

EssexGurl · 17/05/2014 19:04

I didn't know that and I am older than your DH!

I loathe avocado with a passion. I do not eat it, would not serve it to anyone and he pence do not know how to prepare it.

Why is that such an issue?

Alconleigh · 17/05/2014 19:14

If you know you loathe it, then you've eaten it and presumably were not served the skin, so you'd know you don't eat that bit if you had to prepare it......unless you were served it with skin on and that's why you loathe it of course!
