AIBU re suncream

Talking with fellow school mum today. I mentioned about how x shop had own brand suncream 50+ kids stuff for less than half price of nivea. She said that own brand isn't as effective but i argued that it's all the same provided the factor is same as they have to conform to EU standards etc. who IBU?

I got a tube of Factor 30 face block sun cream from Poundland for my recent holiday!
It was a bit thicker than Nivea etc but it was absolutely fine
I only use Solait/ Nivea etc on body though as I like a thinner nicer smelling consistency for all over

My DC's are white blonde and pale and we have used P20 the past few years and they have never ever burnt if I wait the advised 15 mins before letting them dress. It's brilliant stuff and because it's an alcohol based lotion it's so easy to put on and it saves me having to chase them around every hour to reapply a bloody cream.

A 100ml bottle is 17 and 2 of those will do a 2 week holiday for me and them. DH still likes to frazzle and goes for a factor 8. Weirdo.

I was looking at a bottle of Gariner lotion the other day and noticed it had a new warning that despite it being a factor 50 it wasn't suitable for the very pale as was only 3 stars.

I was amazed they had a warning, but doubt most people (who don't have half an hour to kill in Boots and obsession with scream) would notice it.

gileswithachainsaw can you not get pescription suncream from the Dr's for people with skin problems , i have just covered a friends child in the stuff , she got it from her GP .

Never asked tbh. I've never found prescription stuff has worked fir dds skin so I pay fir the creams and stuff myself as they aren't available in chemists/tesco etc

Avon suncream is lovely. It's nearly always on special offer too.

Looked at suncream in lidl today and couldn't see any star rating on it? Don't know if I just didn't look hard enough... Bought some from tesco. Factor 30, spray on, £5.

I bought factor 100 in the states. It was like white emulsion. Brilliant stuff.
I buy from Avon too.

All the supermarket ones get low ratings for application, so while they might work well they are horrible to apply.

a lot of brands dont use star ratings at all but just have the UVA sign in a circle. I dont tend to buy it unless it has a proper star rating on it.

Gileswithachainsaw - which one do you use please? DD gets eczema with sunscreen and I already use a sensitive skin (unperfumed) one on us all so not sure which one to try next!

I got some incredible sun cream from the pound shop- it's coppertone factor 30 no rub in invisible spray. Have just tested it in 40 degree sunshine on holiday and it was fantastic!

Boots Soltan is good (got the insect repellant one last year and it worked well) but it's SO expensive. Will try Superdrug Solait this year I think.

TheIronGnome was it actual Poundland or Pound World/99p Store etc? Have seen that sun cream before but never tried it, will have to have a look for it.

Banana boat also do one called Powder Dry which once rubbed in doesn't leave the skin sticky or greasy. It is only factor 30 and not water resistant, but I like it for the DC to wear for school.

On holiday I use a Nivea swim and play that is ultra water resistant after the DC got sunburn on their shoulders one holiday.

I'm lucky that none of us tend to burn, but I still want to look after their skin.

The only sun cream that doesn't leave me feeling desperate for a shower is Panama Jack. I detest feeling greasy/grubby.

Primark was selling Nivea for £3.90 on Friday. I bought the same factor 50 kids stuff in there as I'd bought from Boots "half price" at £6 earlier in the week.

Not sure I'm afraid myrtle there's a row of pound shops where I am and it was one of them...

The nivea swim and play is 4 star rated which is OK. Their baby and toddler is just 3 star rated dds are using the morrisons stuff and it's OK so far, quite thick but absorbs fast. DD2 shirt a bit grubby but dd1 polo is fine.

Argos have some Ambre Solaire down to £3.99, saw it on hot uk deals. Only available to collect, but none near me.

My DD and I both have very fair skin. After trying all different brands we have found P20 works best for us. It doesn't cause any problems with heat rash or stickiness. Unfortunately it is on the more expensive range of sunscreens.
