To take my own shampoo & conditioner to the hairdressers?

Just wondering if this would be too strange to do this with the hairdresser I go to...?

I don't like the brand they use - it's full of sulphates and crap and I prefer using another from home which leaves my hair much shinier and my scalp with a cleaner feeling.

I know someone who does this. Most other shampoos make her itchy. Seems reasonable to me.

Yanbu. Explain you have a sensitive scalp rather than get into a discussion about sulphates etc. They won't mind at all.

Call and ask first, I don't see why it would be an issue though.

I think it would seem very odd that you couldn't bare to have another shampoo on your head for 24 hours. I'm sure any decent place would pretend that YANBU though.

It's not just for 24 hours - I can leave it about 3 days after a hairdressers' cut and blow dry. Plus there's an event I am getting it cut for and I really want it to look as shiny as possible.

If you're THAT sensitive to the chemicals then it makes sense

The OP doesn't actually say she is sensitive to the chemicals, only that her shampoo leaves her hair shinier and cleaner feeling.

Unless she goes down the allergy/ sensitivity route, I think it will sound very odd.

You are paying them to provide a service for you.

They are not doing you a favour.

Of course you can ask them to use whatever product you want on your hair.

Of course you can. My mum used to do it all the time. She liked 'thickening' shampoos and used to take her own.

In fact, now I think about it, a few years back I had that Keratin blow dry treatment done and you have to use sulphate free shampoos otherwise it comes out. The hairdresser who applied it actually said to me: "don't forget when you come in for your next cut and blow dry to take your sulphate free shampoo with you."

I wish I could find a shampoo that made my hair nicer than how it feels after a professional wash

I washed my hair before I went to the hairdressers recently and told the hairdressers I was going sulphate free. She didn't bat an eyelid.

What are they actually using in the hairdressers though? Unless its shop bought ones proper hairdressing shampoos and conditioners are good ones and not full of crap. ( though mine seem to have a mixture of proper salon ones and shop ones :-/ maybe thats why their prices are so good!)

Im really glad you've put this up though op as i really want to take my serum and heatening balm with me but thinkingit looks cheeky, i may just do it!

I've worked in 2 different salons in the past and a couple of customers used to bring their own in.

The staff won't bat an eyelid, honestly.

I take my own with no problems, although I did phone and ask the first time.
It's purely because I have to use prescription shampoo

All they really want is a happy customer who will use them again

If applying your own products achieves that, they're happy.
