It is a pretty working class street, some council, some privately owned houses. Not sure if that is relevant but WHY the fuck would you advertise the fact that you are a fuckwit? All of the people with the notices up are older people - older than me, which is 43 (im not older!!!! - ok, maybe a bit).

Its pretty worrying really that what i would normally see as very respectable folk have been sucked in by this bullshit?

This is a conservative ward, and although dissilussioned with the previous gov i have always voted labour - i am going to have to vote bloody tory in a half beat effort to keep Ukip out of the area :(

My DD lives in a town with a ukip counsellor - its fucking dire and getting worse :(

I think it would be a good idea with the elections coming up, if these political posts could be restricted to the Politics area.

Then the party hacks could fight it out to their hearts' content without pretending to ask AIBU.

Well, for someone so proud of their country, you have a somewhat tenuous grasp of the English language.

And this: From shoe-repairers, to electricians, from soldiers, to supermarket staff, from small business men, to the disabled. Actually is disablist. FFS.

mumthetaxidriver · 11/05/2014 23:00

Thanks for your reply Cortina - I have done my own research as you sugest to educate myself - that is how I know about the 5 yr policy for health and education for immigrants. Unfortunately no UKIP candidates have knocked on our door so haven't had the chance to discuss. So you may not have all the answers Cortina but I'de like to hear your opinions - do you think the 5 yr policy will impact on our own ability to travel and live abroad?

thornrose · 11/05/2014 23:01

Or spelt like this disablist from the Oxford dictionary online

Discriminating or prejudiced against people who are disabled:
‘we are in danger of becoming a disablist society’

Here it is used in a sentence ‘Commonly used by traditionalist comedians, who ‘tell’ ageist, disablist, homophobic, sexist, racist jokes.’ comedians/UKIP councillors both work equally well in this context.

kinsorange · 11/05/2014 23:01

MrsDeVere. A lesson in life. Dont worry about being uneducated. People dont keep judging you for it. You may be judging yourself, but schooldays are long gone.

And I can tell when posters feel rattled, if they have to be the grammar police.

You have now done it twice. You must be very rattled.
To be fair, you have been one of the posters muzzling posters on this issue.
It hasnt worked. It has backfired.

fwiw, I am a floating voter. Who may or may not vote UKIP.
But posting as you and others have over the years on here, does not do your cause any favours.

Ah, Migration Watch. The organisation that predicted that from this year we would have 70,000 immigrants from Romania, subsequently revising that significantly down to 50,000 a year.*

From the FAQ section

What is the basis for your estimate of migration from Romania and Bulgaria from 2014?

We forecast that between 30,000 and 70,000 people from Romania and Bulgaria will move to the UK each year for the next five years, with a central estimate of 50,000 a year. The precedent of East European immigration from 2004 provides the basis of the estimate as well as the difference in living standards between the UK and Romania and Bulgaria which is similar to the difference between the UK and Poland in 2004. We have, of course, taken into account that the rest of Europe are also opening their labour markets at the same time whereas in 2004 just the UK, Ireland and Sweden allowed A8 migrants to enjoy full access to the labour market.

In 2003 the government forecast that between 5,000 and 13,000 migrants would come from the new EU members of Eastern Europe each year. We described this estimate at the time as ‘almost worthless’ and suggested that an estimate of 40,000 migrants a year would be more realistic. This time around the government has decided against forecasting numbers, lest they make the same mistake again. We believe that it is better to have an estimate than not. Thus far we are the only organisation to have attempted it.

ravenAK · 11/05/2014 23:05

'Yes the 'allowance' is spent on the party, other MEP's from Labour, Conservative etc keep it for their own use! Which is better?'

It's a salary, dingbat. Paid to our MEPs, by us, to represent us in the European Parliament. They do a job & get paid for it.

Controversy about the level of that salary notwithstanding, this is quite clearly better than, erm, still paying that same salary to some Ukip embarrassment to not perform the duties they've been elected to carry out...

I tried to make sense of the rest of your post, but even on a screen it was like being flecked with spittle.

It might be easier for me to appreciate your superior intelligence if you demonstrated it via the medium of paragraphs?

Owllady · 11/05/2014 23:06

Rubbish. If you don't want foreigners in then learn to use the English language properly yourself before you criticise people who can fluently speak and write two languages, who choose to move away from their country to earn money here and bring up their families.

There have been polish populations in this country since the second world war anyway.

kinsorange · 11/05/2014 23:08

I think that it is potentially racist to be the grammar police. People cannot hope to have any idea if English is even their first language.

The grammar police aren't the real police, they don't get public funding. Stop fussing.

'it is potentially racist to be the grammar police'

How does that work, then?

Can some of you UKIP lovers please clarify what the cut-offs are RE immigration/being British? Is it just an end to further free-movement you want? Or do we want to start moving people back? Who are we moving back? What happens to all their stuff (property for example)? How do you propose to mitigate the devastating impact this will have on many businesses (because there aren't actually queues of British citizens waiting for jobs picking leeks or cleaning toilets at less than minimum wage, despite the rhetoric)? There's lots of sound bites for those prone to pearl clutching/frothing, but no substance. I've just read the manifesto. It's crap.

kinsorange · 11/05/2014 23:18

People can read. I dont need to say anything else.

ravenAK · 11/05/2014 23:18

I think that's the cause of 'muzzling' 'floating voters', MrsDeVere.

Must be a right bugger of a job, what with them floating off just when you think you've got the muzzle lined up just right...Grin

The good news appears to be that UKIP are very tolerant when it comes to the random use of apostrophes.

Icimoi · 12/05/2014 00:01

It became a taboo on here and elsewhere to even talk about immigration in public.

Really? Then how come this and several other threads discuss immigration at length? How come it is publicly discussed all over the Press, on numerous internet discussion groups, on the radio and TV, and indeed in public throughout the country?

Icimoi · 12/05/2014 00:04

Cortina, for someone who claims to love Britain, you have an astonishing disregard for maintaining the glories of its language.

Icimoi · 12/05/2014 00:10

Sundaypolitics, the trouble with Migration Watch's forecasts is that, because of their agenda, they don't take into account inconvenient facts (e.g. that not many Romanians actually want to emigrate and, if they do, they are far more likely to go to places like Germany where their employment prospects are better), and are already proving to be a significant over-estimate.

BoneyBackJefferson · 12/05/2014 06:28

Icimoi

It has become less taboo to talk about immigration since the last couple of elections, unsurprisingly since UKIP (and the BNP) have taken seats, maybe there is a link?

Icimoi · 12/05/2014 07:00

I think the point is it never has been taboo to talk about immigration. There is however an interesting degree of defensiveness about it amongst those for whom there is a definite correlation between their interest in the subject and racism. You don't often see people complaining about immigration from the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
