AIBU?

To think sanitary pads are the work of the devil?

Just had an op and not allowed to use tampax for a while so for the first time ever having to use pads. The most uncomfortable thing ever if you actually want to move around and do outdoorsy stuff. Who actually chooses to use these?! Any tips on brands and what doesn't irritate your lady gardens gladly received. I don't wish to have to go totally bald down there to reduce irritation as re growth will be even more painful!

I've never had a problem getting with my life while wearing a towel of any kind.
Anyway periods themselves are obviously a satanic plot, I cannot wait for the menopause!!

I've tried a number of ones over the years…

Like the idea of the eco friendly Waitrose ones but they never stuck on well enough for me, the newish Lilets ones also rubbish.

on hols in Barcelona there was an excellent brand - which isn't sold in UK. perfect.

so back to Always with wings.

did use tampax years ago but just never liked the idea though did use them until about 17 or so.

DotcOM They penetrate! You can't fish them out!

MrsWinnibago....they don't.

I use Natracare and NATY ones, whichever is on special offer, usually from Ocado. They don't irritate at all (unlike the Always/Bodyform ones I used to use).

I don't think there has been much research into tampon fibres but as women were told not to use talc in the genital area due to particles working their way up into the genital tract and raising risk for gynaecological cancers, then Im not risking it.

StairsInTheNight thanks for that info Smile

I think the talc/ovarian cancer thing is a hoax MrsCripps.

Scratch that, just googled it and seems I'm mistaken. Sorry MrsCripps.

Mooooncup! Honestly, it's a revelation. I've used mine for ten years now.

Yes am definitely going to try a Mooncup but until my op has healed I'm not allowed to use anything like that in case of triggering infection. Next month should be fine to go back to tampons thank goodness. Have any regular horse riders or cyclists etc tried the Mooncup? Would be interested to hear experiences!

Selks I think you just made my day!

I use a moon cup as well now - I agree, it's been revelatory and I would never go back to tampons now. I can't quite get the fit right on my one really heavy day, I think everything just moves around too much in there - so I have a washable pad then for any leakage (which I always used to get with tampons too)

FindoGask · 10/05/2014 11:41

I'm not a cyclist but I am a runner, and I do weights and yoga and stuff - the mooncup never seems to budge.

Extra thick tampons and towels here. I used mirena until recently but had it taken out because it made my periods so bad that I couldn't leave the house for more than 20 minutes.

Yeah...I love my cup. LOVE.IT.

I'm actually a bit of a mooncup evangelist. Anyone who asks me about it gets a detailed open love letter about it.

But in reality, I don't care what you shove up your vagina. That's just my personal philosophy.

I run, swim, cycle and ride horses and love mine as well.

Keep away from your cat though - mine pinched mine from my bedroom and spent a day running up and down stairs with a brand new one before DH noticed and made holes in it!

Report
MrsCripps · 10/05/2014 11:53

The cat made holes in it not DH Blush

I'm another for monster tampons and night-time towels at the same time, otherwise I'd never be able to go anywhere without fearing leaks before I could get to a loo. Stupid body.

Yeesh I hate tampons. They seem to irritate me, and I can feel them iykwim? Also, have noticed cramps are worse when I use em. But then again, I'm pretty, er, compact down there which may make a difference.

I think GPs don't tell you about Ibuprofen slowing down flow as Ibuprofen has a risk of causing gastric problems. This increases with frequency of use. It can cause bleeding and ulcers in the stomach. This won't happen to everyone, but I think GPs have to be careful about advising regular use of them because of this.
If you use Ibuprofen the best way to reduce the risk is to make sure you only take them on a full stomach.

I can't stand sanitary towels, I used bodyform for years as I was told I shouldn't use tampons by my family. At 18 I tried a tampon for the first time as I wanted to go swimming and it was so much better. Since then I have only used towels post delivery of DC.

Bodyform without wings, then there's no chance of it slipping and giving you an accidental Braxilian wax!

I have no choice but to wear fecking tampons and pads for the first 3 or so days of my period. I don't dislike pads, I just dislike the Carrie-esque scenes that happen every month. After the initial blood bath I wear my mooncup, tis brilliant.
