To think sanitary pads are the work of the devil?

Just had an op and not allowed to use tampax for a while so for the first time ever having to use pads. The most uncomfortable thing ever if you actually want to move around and do outdoorsy stuff. Who actually chooses to use these?! Any tips on brands and what doesn't irritate your lady gardens gladly received. I don't wish to have to go totally bald down there to reduce irritation as re growth will be even more painful!

Poo is also natural but it doesn't mean I want it matted in my pubes, just like blood from my period is.

I'm glad we've moved forward and invented thing to prevent this.

RebeccaCloud9 · 11/05/2014 20:39

Thanks FindoGask, I definitely want to give it a try.

I don't find the period itself gross and I know it's natural but I, personally, have always found the sensations of wearing a pad to be really horrid. The feeling of it and the unpredictability of leakage especially. I lost track of the clothes and sheets that were leaked on in my teenage years, no matter how hard I tried to prevent it, making me miserable! Never happens now using tampons.

SirChenjin · 11/05/2014 20:43

Presumably you wipe your bum once you've pooed though Tequila, so it doesn't get stuck in your pubes? Same goes with menstrual blood. What on earth do you do about vaginal discharge and wee - all those bodily fluids, wooo!! Grin

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 20:46

Of course I do, what I'm saying is just because it's a natural bodily Erm.. Thing doesn't mean I want it sticking to me. I don't want poo sticking to me so I wipe. When I use pads however the blood sticks to me leaving me feeling uncomfortable and icky.

Mrsjayy · 11/05/2014 20:46

I wipe myself everytime I change I dont have matting ( i feel a bit sick now [grin)

Ewieindwie1 · 11/05/2014 20:49

This is so interesting but I wonder if my solution will help.

I had very heavy periods for three years in my mid 40s. I had to change a thick pad hourly and also the tampon which would act like a dam. Sorry to be disgusting but I could actually feel the lining coming away inside me. I stopped planning things on the first two days of my period. I still went to work but had horrible times trying to clean myself and my clothes in loos.

It was absolutely vile.

Thankfully my sympathetic GP suggested either the Mirena coil or an operation called an endometrial ablation.

I've never liked the idea of a coil so I went for the op.

I had my womb lining dealt with under a GA and I had to have 4 days off work. Now: no periods!!!!

I honestly feel I have my life back. I still have all the rest ofmy bits plus hormones but I am so happy with this outcome.

For any of you out there who have FINISHED having your family, look it up on t'interweb. It may just be the solution you are looking for.

I think the moon cup sounds amazing and wish I had tried it. Wish I had joined Mumsnet years ago. I am learning new stuff every day!

And good luck with periods. I am glad they are over.... But DD has just started!

MissMassEffect · 11/05/2014 20:51

I love my pads Grin

Pair them up with a mahoosive pair of g-ran pants and I am good to go.

But then I've always been exceptionally heavy so tampons just couldn't give me the security I needed.

Change regularly and have never had a problem with....ahem...matting (boak)

SirChenjin · 11/05/2014 20:51

Exactly - wipe and change your pads often, and your pubes won't be matted with menstrual blood (shudder), If they are then you're not changing it often enough. I hate to say it, but you will have all the bodily fluids I mentioned 'sticking to you' anyway, in some quantity or other Grin

I'm really tempted by the Mooncup though - might give that a go.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 20:52

I have extremely heavy periods, even if I changed every 30 mins it would still end up everywhere. Yack. I did go to the docs but everything fine Confused

SirChenjin · 11/05/2014 20:53

I had my womb lining dealt with under a GA

Now that sounds amazing...what should I google for? Has that op got a name?

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 20:53

And of course I wipe an change often I'm not some scruff haha. I use baby wipes then dry with loo roll. Like I said, heavy periods.

Mrsjayy · 11/05/2014 20:53

I dont have the mobility for a moon cup I would probably spill it everywhere I will stick with body form ta muchy, I would go for that OP though if the GP offered it to me I am menopausal and i am heavy and it is a pain

MissMassEffect · 11/05/2014 20:54

Yes always keep the wipes handy!

Oh god I was going to finish off that yorkie pud but now have a mental image a bit like a bedraggled dirty clumpy wolf.

I think I may be sick...

Sparrowlegs248 · 11/05/2014 20:55

I hate sanitary towels but having suffered from toxic shock syndrome am wary of tampons. I am currently using superdrugs own towels, unscented, no wings. I find wings scrunch up and stick to my skin.

I had years on the depo jab - no periods blissful so it came as a bit of a shock to be having them again.

I actually found it really quite gross for the first few months. And yes, i agree about the 'matting' in pubes. The difference being, when you poop, you wipe til you are clean. You don't poop and sit in it for a while, as can happen with menstrual blood. Bleurgh.

SirChenjin · 11/05/2014 20:56

How do you manage to get by with heavy periods and just tampons Tequila? I've got heavy periods too - always have, hate the buggers - but the blood just leaks down the string, regardless of what brand I use. Too many leakage accidents to trust them.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 20:59

I change every hour usually except at night which is a nightmare so I use pads and tampons and change about 3 times (I'm up a lot for a wee) Luckily my periods aren't regular anymore because of the implant. Thank god!

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 21:00

missmass I'm glad I ate my chilli earlier Grin

Mrsjayy · 11/05/2014 21:00

oh god the other month i was in a bit of a hurry I thought i stuck my pad on I hadnt i had put it on the wrong way round I pulled my pants up and realised it has stuck to me GOD THAT DID SMART A BIT

SirChenjin · 11/05/2014 21:01

Why do I just wick out down the string then? Confused I don't even get an hour out of them, they can be dry at the top and completely soaked with blood at the bottom and down the string - completely useless (as well as being uncomfortable to remove)

TequilaMockingbirdy · 11/05/2014 21:02

Is that with all types sir?

I have to use the heaviest flow tampax. Lillets are no good at all

SoulJacker · 11/05/2014 21:05

It may be that you have a low cervix. My cervix is very low during my period and it would be possible to place a tampon so the top was past the cervix.

LadyNexus · 11/05/2014 21:07

Same here,

tampons just don't seem to work, runs right down the little buggers.

ChickyEgg · 11/05/2014 21:09

Another one here who used pads. Tampons just didn't cope and weren't comfortable.

Ewieindwie1 I had an ablation too and I wouldn't do it again. I had heavy periods prior to it but now I have bad cramping twice a month and PMT when I should have a period but now don't. And even that took months to stop. Sad

To me, periods are the work of the devil, never mind what we have to use for it!! Grin

whatever5 · 11/05/2014 21:09

I prefer sanitary towels to tampons nowadays. I don't find tampons very comfortable anymore for some reason. I use cheap cottons ones and change them often.

deemented · 11/05/2014 21:11

Rebecca - this is the shape of the pads I use at night. Since I've been using them I no longer have to sleep with a towel under me, because theres no more leakage!

To think sanitary pads are the work of the devil?
