I don't understand why this is a problem. 90% of the animals are stunned before they are killed anyway - so what is the problem?

I do think it should be labelled as there are some religeons (sihks i think) for who this would be a problem but people getting upset over halal meat served in subway/pizza express? REALLY? To me it just sounds like an excuse for prejudice. Those people quite happy to eat the meat from there tht is not halal and probably don't give a flying fuck what happened to the animals during their lives or at their slaughter. If you were tht worried about that sort of thing you would a) be vegetarian/vegan or b) only ever eat meat that you knew where it came from and that was treated properly. Am i being niave that thinking that having to respect and pray for an animal at slaughter (even if the slaughter is not pleasant) that they may well have good welfare standards? Most of the meat you get from TEsco comes from the EU and the standards don't meat the UK standards for living conditions.

See that properly pisses me off. Ridiculous decisions like that alongside things such as banning Christian jewellery at work and other such bollocks make me incandescent with rage

Exactly, Softly - and actually I believe these extremist positions are even more dangerous in that they provide fuel for the genuine racists to feed the flames

I think it's brilliant that practically everyone on here has simply asked that their own preferences be respected. With one exception around the tiny amount of non-stun slaughter, there's been no suggestion that others should have their choices refused, only that everyone should have equal rights to a choice - and I really don't see how things can be fairer than that Smile

Have just recieved an abusive pm from emma51 saying halsl supports jihad and terrorism. Couldnt report it on my phone. Please be wary of this poster. Have stepped away from this thread for no real reason but do not appreciate being called an unpleasant poster Hmm

Well done for outing them, no one should think its acceptable to send nasty PM's....

LEMmingaround · 10/05/2014 19:38

Thanks beyond. She was ranting about halal financing terrorism. Taking over the food chain. Sharia law ffs!!! I was stunbed.

As far as my views. I have no problem with halal meat. Thanks to posters on this thread I have been able to confirm that 90% is pre stunned. I would not be happy to eat non stunned meat.

I also respect other peoples reasons for objecting even if I dont understand all of them ( athiests -sorry). I think it should be clearly labelled so people can make an informed cho8ce.

Well done, LEM.

BeyondRepair · 10/05/2014 19:50

Have you reported...

No one should have a personal attack PM.

LEMmingaround · 10/05/2014 19:58

YEs, have managed to get lap top up and running so reported both my own post on here and the pm now. I hope Mnet investigate becaue it was actually quite intimidating. I have never ever in my 8 or so years on mnet recieved an abusive PM. I am tempted to cut and paste but am not going to because what she posted upset me and would upset many others i am sure.

I would like to think that i haven't attacked people who don't want halal meat on this thread and i would be the first to apologise to anyone who felt that. We all have to rub along together in the world, life is short, and we need to care for our fellow earth dwellers (animals included) - how hippy does that sound!

I would! why hide it!

softlysoftly · 10/05/2014 20:55

Well that's shit Lem but on the plus side it's nice when the stupid people out themselves makes things so much clearer.

Emma51 if you are reading congratulations you have been well and truly outed as someone whose singular brain cell must get a little lonely from time to time. Maybe you could buy a book try to grow it a friend?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/05/2014 23:41

What a ridiculous thing to do Hmm I've seen stuff like that on the net myself, but frankly can't see the connection; if someone wants to finance terrorism, they'll do it no matter where their income comes from

Obviously no decent person would support terrorists, but if we all thought like that we'd never buy anything, just in case the proceeds were spent on something we don't approve of ...
