to think "frozen" is a really bad example in terms of body shape

Currently watching frozen with dn. Can't believe the shape of the two main women in it, they make barbie look like a normal woman and posh spice like she has a huge waist and wrists.

Bit worried the impression this gives to young children. No wonder anorexia and bulimia are getting more common.

They didn't strike me as particularly skinny tbh!

TequilaMockingbirdy · 05/05/2014 12:57

Oh come on.

Look at cartoons from over periods of time

There's always been thin/skinny ones.

I think magazines and media are much more worrying than disney cartoons

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2014 12:58

You mean these two? They look pretty normal to me.

nomorequotes · 05/05/2014 12:59

I didn't think they were that bad actually.

PrincessBabyCat · 05/05/2014 13:01

There's more to eating disorders than just insecurities. It's more about being in control, food is just the medium.

That said, it's a cartoon. Really, I just feel inadequate that I can't make my hair that gorgeous. Grin

SpringBreaker · 05/05/2014 13:01

Even from an early age I could distinguish between cartoons and real life. I knew that cats and mice didn't really talk and hit each other with hammers, that elephants didn't really fly, and that real humans do not and can not look like animations.

Frozen has got to be the only Disney/Pixar film I have ever watched that doesn't go along with the ' love at first sight marriage' type shit.

I think it gives a very good message that you cannot marry someone you have only just met because you do not truly know who they are or what their intentions are.

The characters never struck me as being overly skinny...

Lauranda · 05/05/2014 13:03

Maybe its just me then.

They have tiny hour glasss figures, very long skinny arms, eyes 4 times the size of the male characters and perfect thick hair.

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2014 13:05

Lots of people in real life have hour glass figures, skinny arms and nice hair.

They big eyes are just part of the animation...otherwise they would have made it a film with real people in.

Waltermittythesequel · 05/05/2014 13:10

They all do. Not just frozen.

It's a helluva lot better than most IMO.

WooWooOwl · 05/05/2014 13:13

I don't see the problem.

The only thing that made me roll my eyes a little was the way Elsa walks in a Jessica rabbit hip swaying style towards the end of the song where she magics up her castle.

But I really can't get that worked up about a character who is obviously fictional doing a strutty walk.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 05/05/2014 13:14

Psst..come here..Ill; let you in on a little secret...

Its a cartoon. Its not real..

Now don't tell anyone!

Waltermittythesequel · 05/05/2014 13:17

Agreed. That was unnecessary.

But I loved how the sisters saved each other and Elsa had no love interest! It was refreshing.

EatDessertFirst · 05/05/2014 13:17

What NorthMountain said.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 05/05/2014 13:19

disney princesses have never been fat, have they...

trufflesnout · 05/05/2014 13:21

Well it took Disney 60 odd years to build up to having a black princess, maybe it won't be long for one with a normal body image. You have to accept they are stylised though, it's just how the men behind animation works.

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/05/2014 13:21

Eating disorders are mental illnesses. Seeing skinny celebrities or indeed cartoons Hmm doesn't cause it.

That is why most people can diet and it just be a diet and others diet and it turns into anorexia or bulimia. I hate the trivialisation of a complex mental health issue that turns it into "silly people who can't cope with people being thinner than they are". No.

Also to be frank, this country does not have an anorexia epidemic, it has an obesity one.

Here ya go Vamp!!

Wow totally outnumbered here.

Still think they make Pippa look fat and lacking curves.

The country can have an obesity and anorexia problem at the same time!

Well said.

trufflesnout · 05/05/2014 13:24

Also Worra those aren't actually pictures from the film, they look like fan art. Here's one of actual Elsa doing her gross sultry walk.

Waltermittythesequel · 05/05/2014 13:24

OP do you really believe anorexia has anything to do with seeing skinny cartoons?

It is a complex mental illness!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 05/05/2014 13:27

What alis said. Plus, they are older teenagers in the film. Teenagers at their correct weight usually are "thin" to all of us watching post-children!
