to think "frozen" is a really bad example in terms of body shape

Currently watching frozen with dn. Can't believe the shape of the two main women in it, they make barbie look like a normal woman and posh spice like she has a huge waist and wrists.

Bit worried the impression this gives to young children. No wonder anorexia and bulimia are getting more common.

there eyes are mahoosive but apart from that pretty normal for a girl of their age.

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:18

wtaf? are people genuinely saying Elsa is a normal proportioned woman?

really?

I just did some measurements off the stills from the film.

If Elsa is 5 foot 9 then she has dimensions of:

Chest = 25 inches
Waist = 17 inches
Hips = 29 inches.

For reference the infamous size '0' is:

Chest = 32 inches
Waist = 24 inches
Hips = 34 inches.

So she is way WAY skinnier than size 0.

Thetallesttower · 06/05/2014 15:21

Normally proportioned size 10- really?

Sorry, her entire torso is the width of her head. This is not normal. If you look back at Snow White, you will see she is slim, but without the exaggerated breasts, missing ribs stick arms and so on. She is a size 10, not Elsa. I can't believe everyone trying to make out people really look like this, they don't! Even top models aren't this thin!

This just demonstrates the distortion we now perceive as 'normal'.

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:23

It is mind boggling that people could look at that and think they represent normal athletic people. I am not saying that all eating disorders are caused by cartoon representations but I am sure a hell of a lot of unhappiness and body dismorphia might be...

mrsbucketxx · 06/05/2014 15:24

how the f did you work that out

DoJo · 06/05/2014 15:25

Icebeing - how did you take these measurements and is she really supposed to be 5'9?

(Not arguing with your figures, just curious as I haven't actually seen the film, but would be interested to compare with some humans to see if we can find a 'real' counterpart.)

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:28

I measured them off the still images and converted using an estimate of her supposed height (by comparison to the men folk). If she is shorter than of course her waist will be smaller....

I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was roughly cylindrical....I could make a better estimate using a side on picture in fact...hang on....

mrsbucketxx · 06/05/2014 15:28

according to disney she is between 5'3 and 5'7 no where near the height you said

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:31

yeah that doesn't make too much difference...although I couldn't find a proper profile shot.

waist is slightly reduced with respect to others...

Chest = 25 inches
Waist = 16 inches
Hips = 29 inches.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/05/2014 15:32

Yes, but Snow White was supposed to be fourteen.

Part of it's a style thing I think - just like the eyes and the (odd) noses.

W.r.t. the waist size, I suspect a dress like that would be corseted underneath.

I don't think they were going for sexy with the walk, I think it's meant to be 'confident'. But they often seemed to intertwined nowadays (not saying that's a good thing).

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:33

well if we use 5' 3 then we get:

Chest = 23 inches
Waist = 15 inches
Hips = 27 inches.

not what I'd call an improvement...

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/05/2014 15:34

God people are getting desperate to offend larger people now..this is scraping the barrel.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/05/2014 15:39

Sorry, on the style thing I meant the proportions aren't exactly right anyway - look at them as children. Their heads are very big in proportion to their bodies (her ears are practically outside her shoulders at the beginning of ), and I think it stays that way.

FunLovinBunster · 06/05/2014 15:40

It's not about offending anyone.
It's about not wanting to portray an unrealistic and unhealthy image of what girls/women should look like. To impressionable young girls. FFS.

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:41

For comparison I found Martyna Budna

who if she were the same height as Elsa would be massively larger around the waist...

21 inches to 15 by my calculations....

I got my weight threads mixed up

FunLovinBunster · 06/05/2014 15:43

Barbie. The Disney Princesses. Jesus, even Tinkerbell has tits!! Not only do I NOT want my DD to think she has to look like that, I do NOT want her to think she has to look slutty to get on in life. The Disney lot look slutty. So does Barbie. Mums, please let's work together to stop these images of girl and womanhood being pushed on to our daughters, and sons too.

IceBeing · 06/05/2014 15:43

I think its the legs you know......Elsas hips are stupidly high....so her height to waist ratio is total bollocks.

Also her head to waist ratio etc.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 06/05/2014 15:44

No I totally agree funlovin.

mrsbucketxx · 06/05/2014 15:44

Nocomet · 06/05/2014 15:46

It's Gru's GF in Despicable Me that annoys me.

She's supposed to be this supper fit, kick ase spy, but she's thin the wind would blow her over, her arms would snap if she karate chopped a fly and she wears stupid high heels to boot.

I know she's supposed to be the opposite of Gru, but it's just a bit over done. If she takes her coat off she'll just about vanish.

Elsa I can forgive, she needs to be a tall and angular, it goes with the spikey ice powers.
