to want to spend 200 on a really nice bed set

Stayed at a hotel at the weekend and it made me realise how awful my bed sheets are. They are cheap dovet and a bog standard cover.

Seen a nice luxary dovet and cover that would come to about 200.

Dh says it is too much and not needed. I think we use it every day and old set is 6 years old.

Don't have much money, but really want this wool set with 350tc cover

A wool duvet sounds weird.

WilsonFrickett · 28/04/2014 20:00

Do you have 200? Because really, the question is not should you have it, but can you afford it?

Appletini · 28/04/2014 20:01

I think there's a happy medium - buy something cheaper but still nice

teawithlemon · 28/04/2014 20:03

If expensive bedding meant I'd get a better nights sleep I'd buy it. Is it a wool filled duvet then? Have heard good things about them.

If you can afford it fine, but you say you can't so don't. You can get lovely high thread count bed linen in TK Maxx - ours was in the clearance bit. It's white with a bit of detail on it, super king size and duvet cover and 2pillowcases £27:00 Fitted sheet was approx £10

littlewhitebag · 28/04/2014 20:06

Ah. I was thinking of a wool duvet cover.

TheNewSofa · 28/04/2014 20:09

I spent £200 on a double fitted sheet, 4 pillowcases and a double duvet cover

All 600 thread count.

It is very nice to sleep in however it has its draw backs

It needs ironing

It looks screwed up once its been slept in just once.

Even when tumble dried, it still looks screwed up!

I also bought a down and goose feathered marks and spencers autograph duvet.

Now that is lovely, no problem with that but it was £240

TheNewSofa · 28/04/2014 20:11

Any bedding over 180 thread count will need ironing even if tumble dried

LEMmingaround · 28/04/2014 20:13

this is good to know - seems the cheaper the betterer!

rabbithole · 28/04/2014 20:17

YABU I'm sure you could get one nearly as nice for 1/4 of the price

MrsShortFuseTheSecond · 28/04/2014 20:23

I think it's the bedlinen that matters - cheap duvets are fine.

Try TKMaxx for Designers' Guild for about £25 (£200 ish in John Lewis)

peggyundercrackers · 28/04/2014 20:26

If that's what you want go for it. We always buy good quality bedding because it does feel much better.

Rabbit nearly isn't the same, that's like saying a mini is nearly like a Rolls Royce and it's only 1/4 of the price, the reality is they aren't like each other at all.

Jbck · 28/04/2014 20:35

Asda do 300 count egyptian cotton sheets and duvet covers. Excellent value and wash really well. Still need ironing but I have Belledorm and Dorma 200 and 400 and none of them look better than each other after washing.
I think the last set I bought from Asda came in about £60. Duvet cover was on introductory with £10 off. Kingsize duvet, flat and fitted sheet and pillowcases (2 in duvet set and 2 to match sheets)

I agree cheaper duvet unless you are a real sweater.

Jbck · 28/04/2014 20:37

I will one day treat myself to 1000 TC just for the hell of it!

justlinen are excellent for bed linen. They do quality linen, but it is heavily discounted. It might be last season's but I could never justify spending £100+ on a duvet cover so I like it!

RigglinJigglin · 28/04/2014 20:43

If I had it to spend I'd do it. I bought myself us a lovely joules bedding set for our super king in the sale. It's the best sleep I've ever had. DH has started to request it more often and he doesn't notice bedding.

I've been waiting for the next online sale to pick up another duvet cover so I can have it on rotation rather than the cheap crappy dunelm mill covers we have too.

Bluecarrot · 28/04/2014 20:46

Our last duvet set was high tc and I LOVED it. We had a bedspread over it so you couldn't see how creased it was.

However, we just bought a superking bed and DP picked a duvet from next. It looks less creased but it feels rough and I don't like it. So, I've just invested in lovely dorma fitted and flat sheets and pillow cases so the actual duvet cover doesn't touch my skin.

Also, I got a microfibre feels-like-down duvet from tk maxx and it feels wonderful.

BillyBanter · 28/04/2014 20:54

I want to see this £200 bedlinen set.

BuggersMuddle · 28/04/2014 20:56

I like Feather and Black in the sales (I can afford it, but seriously, who gives a shit if your duvet cover is 'this season'). To be honest though I find my 200tc set just as nice to sleep in as my 400 and the 200tc washes better.

TKMaxx can also be good for high thread count sheets, although they have a lot of Fenn Wright Manson stuff which I have found disappointing in terms of how long it lasts.

I don't iron them because I don't give a shit

6cats3gingerkittens · 28/04/2014 21:20

Have just spent £20 on a Tesco duvet set. They're absolutely fine, wash and iron well and are blessed with immortality. The cats like them too. My duvet is a different story, goose down, cost it's weight in gold and so snuggly and warm. The cats like that as well so we're all happy. They also like cardboard boxes from amazon with lots of scrunched up packing paper in so don't take their word for anything. If you like the set and can still pay the leccy bill then go for it, Girl.

Fathertedfan · 28/04/2014 21:32

We have a superking bed and the best Egyptian cotton sets I've found have been sold on QVC - northern nights range. Although I don't get the, on QVC -I buy them discounted on eBay. Bedding and beds are massively important, but I would never spend more than I could comfortably afford

SarcyMare · 28/04/2014 21:35

all duvets have to be feather in my book, hate synthetic ones, they don't cuddle you properly

Heathcliff27 · 28/04/2014 21:36

I once spent the guts of £200 on a bedding set. It was beautiful the first time I put in on the bed, really luxurious.

Then I had to wash it, it ended up looking like the wrinkliest, out of shape old rag you'd ever seen.

On the brightside my DH now has a very expensive dust sheet to use when painting. It still breaks my heart when I see him drag it out of the shed Sad.

Oldraver · 28/04/2014 21:42

If you can afford it got for it, you will not regret it.

The only drawback with high TC is you wont want to get out of bed
