Will having 2 'nannies' cause a problem?

My dm has been Nannie since ds was born.

Mil has recently become involved in our lives again and when we asked what she wanted to be called she said Nannie and we said yes as we didn't think the 2 nannies would ever meet etc.

Anyway am expecting dc2 and my dm will be staying for a while and so will likely meet mil.

Will this be a problem do you think? Can you have 2 grandparents called the same thing?

I had one called nanny and one called nana.
Could you do similar.
Or call one nanny and one Nanny

Of course - we had Nanny X (Surname) and Nanny Y (Surname). No confusion. Other people have Nanny Placename or Nanny Smiley, or whatever

Mine were known by the same name, I don't remember there being any confusion.

Mine have two grannies...we just stuck their first name after granny if we were in a situation where they might get confused.

DS has Granny Smith and Granny Jones , he calls both granny but if we are talking about a visit we talk about Granny Smith or granny Jones.

I had Nana (last name) and Nana (last name). It never caused any confusion at all.

I didn't think about adding their name to the end. I might start doing that. Ds doesn't seem confused. I was more worried about offending the nannies! Do you think it is something valid to be upset about?

We have a nanny Karen nanny Anita nanny dawn nanny Ruth and nanny Lila!! Dd(3) manages fine

I had 2 grans - we denoted them as Gran 'surname'. Dh has 2 grans and he denotes them as Gran 'forename' My mum is Gran and dh's mum is Nanny (which I still dont like as it's not what I'm used to saying)

Ok thanks, I am glad it shouldnt cause a problem. Am getting a bit anxious about the 2 nannies meeting!

We have two nannies and two grandads and it doesn't cause a problem. My mum and dad were already nanny and grandad to my niece, and I'd hoped the in-laws would choose differently but they didn't, and the world didn't cave in, so we keep on going on... :)

We use the same system as UniB but with Grandma, also the same when I was a child. The only confusion now is that one of my grandmothers is still alive and you sometimes realise that you are all talking about different people!

When my mum met my MIL they had a ridiculous PA conversation about who made the best monkey noises to make DS1 laugh - me or my husband! They go on well but there was some underlying competitiveness.

They will just have to be big girls and get on with it

I only has one Nannie and so never thought about it.

Dh had a Nannie and an Oma, so we were surprised mil wanted to be a Nannie as always expected her to want to be an Oma!

we have Grandma A (first name) and Grandma J (first name) so no confusion there.

why would people name their grandmas with the surname rather than the first name - bit formal, isn't it? I know a few people who do it, just don't understand why?

MIL has always been nana, my mum wanted to be "grandma" but ds insisted on saying nana. He never seemed to get mixed up, even now my mum is no longer with us, they're still both nana.

I can't keep up, but he knows who he is talking about. Grin

When he sees a picture of my nan, he calls her "mummy's nana".

I had a nan (or nana, I used both) and a "Nana x" for my other nan who I never met.

We had grandma here and grandma there, because one of them lived close to us and the other one lived a distance away. It worked fine, we all knew who we were talking about.

Fortunately our DMs chose Granny and Grandma respectively. Grandma has since decided she would rather be Nanny, but it was way too late and the DC continue to call her Grandma whether she likes it or not Grin.
