We have about 1000 left at the end of each month after everything is paid and still feel skint Sad

OP posts:
TinyDiamond · 18/04/2014 22:11

wtf that is loads. Hardly anything really to be honest sometimes we will get ourselves something we need like an item of clothing or toiletries, make up on payday but our money is pretty much gone by the first week of the month after bills have gone out.

We are both in work, higher than average household income. Things are just so fucking expensive now. It isn't sustainable.

kinkyfuckery · 18/04/2014 22:12

Seriously? How crass.

Hobby2014 · 18/04/2014 22:12

I don't get paid much more than £1000.. Let alone have that saved at the end!

neiljames77 · 18/04/2014 22:12

About 7-800 I think.

iloveaglassofwine · 18/04/2014 22:12

Hmmm, that's my take home. We have nowt left at the end of the month. Just how it is.

Zame · 18/04/2014 22:13

gamerchick · 18/04/2014 22:13

about 40 quid.. about 250 quid down a month atm due to me not working. We live quite well though so i'm not complaining.

a grand a month? Give your head a wobble man.

surromummy · 18/04/2014 22:13

you do know this wont end well OP??

when with exdp we were lucky to have £50 a month left over after all bills, week to week we lived by tax credits!
you must be on a decent wage to have that amount left over a month and obviously need to seriously look at your finances if you cant work out were £800 of that goesHmm

missmagnum · 18/04/2014 22:14

After bills, food and petrol we have about £500 left over, which soon goes on birthday presents, unexpected things like car issues, saving for hol, clothes and shoes for dc. We're fortunate and doing ok.

Bearbehind · 18/04/2014 22:15

Crass is exactly the word I was looking for!

I am genuinely astounded that anyone can seriously expects any kind of sympathy or even empathy for being in a position of pissing £1k a month up the wall and not knowing where it goes.

Sparrowlegs248 · 18/04/2014 22:15

None. About 40 if i gave up wine.

shakinstevenslovechild · 18/04/2014 22:16

I have nothing at all, all my money from my main job goes on bills and food, my dd needs additional speech therapy, I have had to take on another job at nights to pay for that.

Excuse me if I don't sympathise with your mere spare grand a month.

Mrswellyboot · 18/04/2014 22:18

I pay 800 mortgage and am left with approx 1300. I save 150 per week if I can. This was used to take extra leave after baby etc.

Once childcare kicks in I won't be able to save really.

imnottoofussed · 18/04/2014 22:18

That in fact is how much I get paid each month so I have nothing spare.

WooWooOwl · 18/04/2014 22:19

Do you still feel skint because you are around a lot of people that have much more than you?

I don't have that much left after everything is paid for, but I find how skint or fortunate I feel depends on who I'm with and what conversations I've had.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/04/2014 22:21

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and assume what you meant was
"How is it, when we have a decent amount of disposable income, that it seems to disappear with nothing to show for it?"

You need to make a note of all your "discretionary" spending for a month or two to see what it's going on. Also maybe put a bigger chunk into savings. Additionally do you save something a month towards bigger annual bills e.g. Car (tax, MOT etc) or do they swallow a chunk of money when you get hit by it one month?

Don't bite. It wants you to bite.

No one would genuinely post that unless they were an utter cunt. So they are either a troll or a cunt. You decide...

HandragsNGladbags · 18/04/2014 22:22

Yes I do have that much. And we save.

And I know how privileged we are to be in that position.

Why the Sad face? Do you mean because you fritter it on crap? Unless you are going in to debt that's purely up to you surely?

sillymillyb · 18/04/2014 22:22

I have another thread going at the mo where I was trying to work out if I should take a rental property that would leave me with £75 at the end of the month..... If I had a grand at the end I'd be over the bloody moon!

Cocolepew · 18/04/2014 22:23

Boo hoo.

It's all relative and depends on where you live, how many children you have etc. We have about that left after bills and it seems to just disappear unless we are super regimented about the budget. There's always something; Birthday parties, field trips, new shoes for three DC, activities for three DC, family outings, iTunes, school book orders, toiletries/sundries, haircuts, dog grooming, dog food, vet bills, window washer/sprinkler guy, wine, car issues, DIY supplies etc.....

You need to make a budget. Try to forecast things that you know you'll have to pay for (on top of regular bills) and set aside a bit extra for incidentals. It really helps to just shove a bunch into savings on the day DH gets paid to save me from myself, to avoid frittering and impulse buying.

gamerchick · 18/04/2014 22:24

Do you use your card a lot OP? Its fatal when you have a card on you when paying for stuff.

A set amount to spend and just take cash out, leaving your card at home might help the frittering. Frittering just means it goes nowhere.

Or if you have a grand every month guaranteed, then stick it in somewhere where it's not easy to get to if you really don't want to be spending it at the beginning of the month.

cardibach · 18/04/2014 22:31

I have about £200 after all essentials are paid (including pension and some savings) and while I know what you mean in that it does tend to disappear, I feel lucky to be in this position. What makes you sad about it?
