We have about 1000 left at the end of each month after everything is paid and still feel skint Sad

Not much, I think around 700 but something always seems to happen, something big needs paying for (example washing machine broke yesterday!!) so it never feels like a lot :/

CrohnicallyChanging · 18/04/2014 21:34

Good for you. We're lucky to have £1000 left after a week, we still have more bills to go out and we still have to buy food, fuel, never mind anything fun.

littledrummergirl · 18/04/2014 21:35

About a penny. Of course we are supposed to save for a pension out of that Hmm

SuperScrimper · 18/04/2014 21:37

This month I will have 5p left in my account after I take money for food out in cash so I can't overspend.

Actually I've just worked it out at 500!! Some months we manage to save some money in an account then as i say the car will have issues, something will break, we need something badly, so stuck in that cycle. Saving for a pension isn't on the cards at all!

LadyMaryLikesCake · 18/04/2014 21:41

There's a huge difference between what I should have and what I actually have Confused

Maybe you need to write down everything you're spending? £2.50 on a coffee twice a week, £1 for a newspaper per day, £3.50 for a sandwich etc mounts up so it will tell you where you're spending unnecessary cash.

bellediva · 18/04/2014 21:44

Nothing. All goes on childcare and bills. Count yourself bloody lucky!

Bearbehind · 18/04/2014 21:45

PMSL - are you seriously saying you have £1,000 a month that is spare after everything is paid for and you're moaning about it Hmm

If that's your pin money I think you might want to count some lucky stars.

racmun · 18/04/2014 21:45

Is that your fun spending money it do you need to buy good out of it? I'm guessing the former?

OP you will take a battering as that IS a good amount to have after bills paid, so is the amount I get really but there's always "unexpected" things that happen, all though a lot is like lady says silly things that add up. If I sit and work it out, me and DP will easy have a bottle of spirit (gin or vodka) weekly, a cafe visit, pub meal, all these things add up really. Might be worth keeping a diary and tracking where the money goes as it's shocking how much little bits add up really. I intend to start doing this again soon as I got my food bill down to spare cash but it's all going back to normal lately.

smartypants1000 · 18/04/2014 21:50

Do you mean what is left in the account after we've paid the bills, or what is left at the end of the month after bills, food, travel etc, to spend on luxuries?

Former, about 400

Latter - absolutely nothing, we usually have a few days at the end of the month with nothing in the account. We've done a lot of cutting back, too.

borisgudanov · 18/04/2014 21:51

The question in more how much month there is left at the end of the money. HTH.

FuckyNell · 18/04/2014 21:52

Must be a typo. You can't possibly feel skint with a clear grand left over every month

Ruushii · 18/04/2014 21:53

I only have £3000 disposable income left over. It's such a drag being so poor.

AlpacaYourThings · 18/04/2014 21:54

Gosh, only £1000?! I'm embarrassed for you.

Mrsshearsagain · 18/04/2014 21:55

That is what we have left after we have paid for housing, food, bills, petrol and childcare.
I need to start writing things down as other than putting 200 pounds a month away I'm really not sure where it goes although as others have said we also seem to be having a period of things needing replacing.

MrsBungle · 18/04/2014 21:56

Do you mean money left for what you want from pay of actual money in your account the day before pay-day?

I'd bloody love £1000 left the day before pay-day!

Bearbehind · 18/04/2014 21:56

How can anyone seriously post to complain about having £1,000 a month to fritter away???

Many people don't even clear that amount in a month.

I'm thinking some perspective is required.

Wow that would be an amazing amount to have left after all bills are paid, sadly that's what I take home each month. Nearly 600 will go into the house account, I still have to fuel my own car, pay my dd's childcare and buy half of the household food.

Somehow this month, despite car tax, tv license and dd's feet growing, I have £141 in my account, and pay day is next Friday. It won't last till then as there is still another weekly shop to go but I'm just chuffed I have made my income stretch and my dd and dp haven't gone without

Xihha · 18/04/2014 22:09

I got excited earlier as I has £10 left over after paying all my bills and stocking the freezer up!
