Tim Stanley is a sensationalist wanker; I would take anything he writes with a pinch of salt, a rather hefty one too.

I sincerely hope there is no truth to this rumour Sad.

yegodsandlittlefishes · 17/04/2014 20:49

If it is the American press before ours, it isn't history repeating itself. Not quite. Though there are parallels to be drawn between Hitler and Putin...Olympics held with bigoted exclusions followed by invasion. Was the lack of uniform significant? Now this. If it is true, Putin means this to be messing with our minds. How much can he get us on edge? How much can he claim to be invincible while doing small things which reference the third Reich. (Not that this is a small thing.)

If this does mean we are heading for war, Putin expects it and expects to win.

How popular is he within Russia though? The man is unhinged. He's obsessed with himself. He controls with fear. How much of a hold does he really have?

Definatelylosingmysanity

Are you sure you read the bit about The notices, which purport to be from the pro-Kiev authorities in Donetsk, have caused alarm in the Jewish community, although their authenticity has not yet been verified.

(Please regain your sanity and learn to spell)

Llareggub · 17/04/2014 20:50

Sensationalist reactions? I hope so. Too many people said nothing before WW2 about Hitler's actions.

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 20:56

Sensationalist reactions? I hope so

I hope we all agree on that, but let's remember how the media loves to whip us all into a frenzy of indignation, regardless of the facts.

What sells newspapers? (and heaven knows how desperate the newspapers must be to push paper over counters in the last few years, there is no depth to which they will not stoop)

YouTheCat · 17/04/2014 21:03

I don't buy newspapers.

I'd rather be whipped up into a frenzy needlessly than apathetic in the face of the next Stalin.

definatlylosingmysanity · 17/04/2014 21:04

Yes I did read the article it also states that the leaflets are supposedly the work of extremists.

I do know how to spell thank you and I posted it as it had been said by a pp that there was no reference on uk news hence the statement its on the bbc.

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 21:09

Then you'll know it is 'definitely', as in finite and all that

Do you really think something as important as this if it were true would not be reported on the BBC? If you read any of the many updates you will see these are not emanating from the Russian government.

Fizzybangfanny · 17/04/2014 21:15

Can posters not resort to making cheap digs at posters spellings.

Dawndonnaagain · 17/04/2014 21:16

Fox appears to be running it now

definatlylosingmysanity · 17/04/2014 21:17

Yes I was aware of that surprisingly but I chose to spell it like that due to the nature of the nickname.

Comic if the worst that can be said is about my spelling then I'm fine with that.

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 21:19

Yes it is on the BBC site. But it hasn't been confirmed, it is just reporting hearsay.

The notices, which purport to be from the pro-Kiev authorities in Donetsk, have caused alarm in the Jewish community, although their -authenticity has not yet been verified-.

And dear YouTheCat , wouldn't you rather find that frenzy once you knew there was something to be frenzied about? Apparently not.

Who needs the DM?

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 21:21

Just been reported in daily mail

OK, I take everything back that I have so far typed

definatlylosingmysanity · 17/04/2014 21:31

It's not about getting in a frenzy. Being aware of a possible situation is better then living in ignorance. History should have taught us that the more aware we are of possible situations like the ones that are being speculated then hopefully the sooner things can resolved sooner if that would at all be possible. This has the possibility to affect many more people as families can reach further then just one country.

The op title stated to hope to god this isn't true which to me doesnt come across as this has to be true.

No one has stated anything has yet been confirmed but just stating what is being reported.

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 17/04/2014 21:32

I remember the first reports of the Tsunami in Dec 2004.
I panicked because some friends if mine were in Phuket and didn't reply to my texts.
my SIL did the "oh, they will be fine, these things get exaggerated"

but we know what happened, sadly.
and my friends did survive but weren't unharmed.

hysterical reactions? I hardly think so.
And I hope to God it's "just a troll" creating a fake shitstorm.

but for now it's fucking scary

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 21:32

This story may turn out to be true. If it does, I will be as horrified as any one else on this or any other thread.

But, until that time; I am going to reserve judgement.

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 21:35

So, Zing, did you not wait until you had heard some proper news?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 17/04/2014 21:37

partial Out of interest, are you Jewish? Older generations of Jews - in particular - are very fearful of history repeating themselves.

partialderivative · 17/04/2014 21:41

No, I am not Jewish, but I am still very fearful of history repeating itself.

Is that allowed?
