Took dd to MacDonalds today. For us this is a holiday treat as we enjoy the odd burger, although dd is really just lured by the plastic tat in the happy meal TBH. She is slim and eats normally rest of time.

But, bloody hell, the people in there were beyond belief really. Makes me realize how other families actually live and why the health of the country is as it is.

Family 1- all huge, and the youngest dd (aged about 9) was definitely the fattest and not only that she was eating a full sized meal, and worst of all was wearing a full red velour lipsy tracksuit with gold embroidery!!!!!

Family 2- Two boys with their dad, all sat vacantly staring at their food and munching away. First boy opens his (supersize) fries and says "wheres the salt?" Dad doesn't say anything, just fishes in the papers on his tray and passes packet of salt to child. The chips are ALREADY covered in far too much salt, especially for kids, and if the child asks for salt this makes me think this is a regular thing for him, to cover his food in salt.

Don't these people take any responsibility for their health AT ALL?

Well said Excuse and Schmoo

Obviously seasonal name changing is just a bit of fun but I think MN should consider suspending the accounts of nc for Goading purposes or making it clear they don't collude with it.

Dawndonnaagain · 13/04/2014 11:13

I am currently overweight. It's due to medication, not that I have to justify it. It's due to bitches like you that I never get a meal out, OP. Nothing worse than seeing a fat person eat, is there?
Angry Sad

ilovesooty · 13/04/2014 11:14

Exactly. The OP can walk away from her spite secure in the knowledge that her usual username is untarnished.

That's vile behaviour and I don't think it should be allowed.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 11:16

SauvignonBlanche don't be mean to OP. She said she didn't snigger at the Childs weight. Just the tracksuit...which her fat rolls were squeezed into. Wink she left a while ago. She had a plate of dust to prepare for the DCs to balance out the calorific McDs they had yesterday.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 11:17

Me neither Ilovesooty surely MNHQ can do something about it.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 13/04/2014 11:18

I am Queen of the Chavs, I used to work in McDonalds, I had all my stars and progressed to being a floor manager. I had to attend a course and do an exam, lettuce ratios being one question I can remember.

It was ace, we were all really young, worked hard and played hard. All sorts of people used to come through those doors. We had a regular customer who was a frightfully posh older lady, she used to come in daily for an ice cream cone, but that's ok, because she was upper clarse and slim and wore a stole. Trufax.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 13/04/2014 11:25

Its ok OP, you don't have to rush, MdD's don't stop serving breakfast until 11.30 on a sunday, you can still get your mcmuffin and judgy coffee on the side.

Really? Are you sure, because if I'm quick, I'll have time to go get a big breakfast and a latte and if I go through the drive through I won't even have to get dressed properly.

But seriously, not this again. McDonalds is quite shit food. But its better than a lot of similarly priced independent takeaways in terms of meat quality etc. Their coffee is good and half the price of Starbucks/Costa etc.

And surely no-one can argue that the processed carb dominated food produced by the coffee chains is any healthier - OK they all do some kind of token salad offering and I think I might have had one in Starbucks that might even have fallen into the 'quite nice' category, but it came to nearly Ten Pounds Shock for a coffee and a salad.

On the other hand, I don't think McDs is particularly cheap in terms of regular eating, but them I'm one of those deluded advocates of home cooking.

They do salt packets in all the McDonalds I have ever been in - they are usually with the napkins, straws etc.

I'm not sure I'm convinced by the salt is unhealthy argument. The Japanese diet is very salty and they are generally very healthy. I think that it is 'being overweight' that is unhealthy, and the way a person got there is less important. Fat and salt have been over-demonised in the past few decades and it is sugar and other processed carbs that are the real villans IMHO.

I firmly believe in the 80% rule - its what you do 80% of the time that matters and as long as McDs falls into the other 20%, there are bigger things to worry about. And for a one off observation, you cannot say whether the people that you noted were eating food that was typical of the 80% or the 20%. You also only mention 2 families - presumably there were 10-20 'family groups' in there and only 2 were noticably overweight?

ilovesooty · 13/04/2014 11:29

Misspixietrix I wish to goodness they would. If I knew who the OP usually posted as I'd choose to avoid her in future. I'd like MNHQ to give me that choice

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 11:31

The way that a person got there is less important It isn't though is it? Not when people are rightly pointing out that Overweight does not always = Overeating. Especially with the use of Steroids which are used for a wide range of reasons and have adverse health effects. I watch what DD eats because she's had steroids by the bucketload. Funnily enough the PICU Doctors didn't pay much attention to the possibility of weight gain when trying to save her life.

Honey that is an ossum nc. Suits you!

This thread has given me a mega Big Mac craving, I don't even like Macdonalds Confused. I don't dare eat it though, weirdly it's one of the foods that triggers my migraines.

RandallFloyd · 13/04/2014 11:35

I'd have made a beeline to your til Alex. Always go for the most stars you can see.
We used to compare notes after visits.

Served by Alan, 2 stars, disappointing, had to ask for sauce.
Served by Frank, 4 stars, seamless.
Gillian, 1 star, impressive, lots of potential.

A no-stars was always a last resort.

Do they still have stars? Bit harsh to openly display people's competence now I think about it!

andsmile · 13/04/2014 11:36

why not pizza hut and all the little shits that run around the salas bar touching it all while the parents sit there then the staff have to remove it all I saw this happen.

What about all those carbs in the pizza bases and the sugary pizza sauce with plastic cheese and processed meat.

I think we should stop McD's bashing, can someone please think of the goats.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 13/04/2014 11:39

MissPixie. Sorry I meant overweight due to excess food.

I am aware that sometimes steriods or other medication makes people gain weight, but I was referring to either those who eat lots of junk, or sometimes people are overweight due to eating massive portions of healthy food, and claim 'they eat healthily, but can't lose weight' while eating a family sized roast dinner or enough fruit to fill a washing up bowl.

BoffinMum · 13/04/2014 11:44

OP, these are things many of us think and few of us actually articulate.
Yes, some people in Britain dress appallingly and stuff their faces with far too much crap, just like some people drink too much booze, and others drive cars in the wrong way and pollute the planet more than they need to. Yes, there are reasons for this, but ultimately, it comes down to the fact this nation cannot be bothered to organise itself properly. We fed people fine in the war, we even dressed them more or less OK, we transported them around efficiently, collectively we choose not to do so now. It's clearly not a priority for most people. It is for me, which is why I set up a blog telling people how to do it, but the people who need to pay attention to all this probably can't be arsed to engage. And that, sadly, is their right.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 11:45

Who eats that much fruit?! Are you friends with Gillian McKeith? Confused Grin

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 11:47

BoffinMum but have you ever found yourself having an internal sniggering at an overweight child? I haven't. OP however, has.

Ludways · 13/04/2014 11:49

You nasty bitch. What were your kids doing while you were sat judging everyone else, entertaining themselves or sat in complete silence.

I took my dc's to McDonald's last week, only when I got home did dh tell me he'd taken them the day before, then Friday night my DM took them to KFC, non of us knew they'd been somewhere already and they just stayed quiet, they're not fast!

So that's 3 junk food meals in one week, when can I expect ss round?

Ludways · 13/04/2014 11:51

* they're not daft*

slartybartfast · 13/04/2014 11:52

i am not sure if we actually feed people fine during the war, they probably were the halycon days that are referred to with rationing . and actually I saw on QI that crime aboslutely shot up, houses were bombed and there were actual looters stealing things, blackmarket for a lot of things, but that is not the point.

ImSoOverIt · 13/04/2014 11:52

Today dd had biscuits for breakfast. I have a migraine and I can't be dealing with a tantrum right now.

slartybartfast · 13/04/2014 11:54

meant to say werent the halycon days, with food and clothing.rationing.

perhaps we should bring back rationing though. a government initiative.
fast food outlets would go out of business.

Misspixietrix · 13/04/2014 11:58

Ffs slarty don't give this Government any more ideas! Grin

Whattheduck · 13/04/2014 11:58

If its so bad op then why take your dd there
Personally i could think of better ways to give dc's a treat
But each to their own and to be honest i couldn't give too hoots what others choose to feed their dc's and if i chose to dine at the same place it would be rather hypocritical to judge

MoveYourArmsLikeHenry · 13/04/2014 11:58

Op, I am fat and hardly ever eat at McDonald's. But your thread has put me in the mood for a Big Mac meal now. How do you suggest I obtain this? Should I just use the drive through or use ninja-like moves and hide under tables? Jumping from behind chair to chair while checking my coast is clear? I could crouch under the big plastic figure of the Hamburgler while the staff take my order then once I've nabbed it, use my massive belly to tuck and roll out the fire exit shouting "I win this time, suckers!"

I may even bring my iPod and listen to the mission impossible theme while executing this task.
