to think the hatred for Next is just backlash against the popular and successful?

I don't get it, they stock such a wide range of products and styles how can everyone on here hate them? Whatever you find in other shops, you can generally find in Next too.

It's just bandwagonning isn't it? It's popular so it's cool to say you hate them isn't it?

In my eyes, if I want nice kids clothes Next has it- from cute and girly, to hooker style, to nautical, to traditional, whatever you want they have it!

They have women's stuff in formal, casual, tarty, frumpy, maternity, everything under the sun.

I shop in loads of places, including Next, but all the Next hatred puzzles me.

I have had a £75 voucher for next for two years. I pop in occasionally, but so far have completely failed to find anything for me, DD or DS that I could bear to buy.

Sorry, it's just not very nice stuff in there.

It also depends on the family you are staying with. There are some families that I would be camping out to go to the sales just as an excuse to get away from them.

DownstairsMixUp · 11/04/2014 11:20

I wasn't aware there was hatred :S Everytime a Next sale is on at least 2 or 3 people will update status/upload their kids clothes haul from there. I got some t shirts from there the other day for DS, pack of 3 for 12 quid and I was quite impressed, usually go to H&M and Primark.

fatlazymummy · 11/04/2014 11:22

I've never been to a next sale (and never will) so I don't know the prices, but I have bought very cheap 'office' type clothes from primark, asda, tesco etc. which did the job.
I agree, that post sounded a bit snobby. It's not just next though, it's the idea of boxing day sales which other shops seem to be doing as well now.

3DcAndMe · 11/04/2014 11:23

I love next!

Both for clothes for my 3 dc and for jeans for myself as there petite range fits me!

I like sainsburys clothes too
I have bought some great dog walking gillets for me and dd from there 1/2 price this week

Janorisa · 11/04/2014 11:42

I find the quality in Next to be really poor. All the clothes I bought for DD shrank in the wash...this doesn't happen with the H&M clothes. Also, I find the trousers are an odd cut and don't fit DD. The cotton t-shirts I bought were incredibly thin...nowhere near as good as the quality of H&M.

I've always found the adult clothing to be really shapeless...

Philoslothy · 11/04/2014 12:07

I don't think Next is interesting enough for people to hate. However I do loathe the girl's clothes with writing across the bottom.

When I first started working I bought a few Next suits and the quality was much better, although I suspect it cost more.

I am not sure why the OP cares as much as she does.

Prompted by this thread. I've just looked on the Next website, as I need some new t shirts. I scrolled through 7 pages of 200 tops. I could have carried on, but it was all just shite. Not one thing appealed to me.

One monstrosity sticks in my and. A tunic style black baggy t shirt with the Word fashion emblazoned across it in sequins. The word filled the whole t shirt. There are no words to describe this monstrosity. Next at its best, both frumpy and trashy in one go

Nocomet · 11/04/2014 13:31

H&M is the shop I really don't understand.

Some children's stuff is ok, but the adults stuff is absolutely shit.

Polyester in random sizes and all obviously put straight in the rails having been screwed up in a plastic bag and tramed over on the store room floor

RonSwansonsLushMoustache · 11/04/2014 13:33

I don't hate them but I do get frustrated with them. They are on every high street and every retail park. There should always be something in there that will suit what I'm looking for, but there almost always isn't.

I struggle to find clothes I like in Next. I once had a £35 credit note and, despite scouring the shop thoroughly, I couldn't find anything to spend it on.

Some of the boy's stuff is ok but the trousers are too big for slim DS. I've bought him a couple of good winter coats over the years. But last year there seemed to be nothing but chinos and logoed knitwear that makes 5 year old boys look like miniature members of a golf club.

soontobeslendergirl · 11/04/2014 13:49

Things I buy from Next that I like/are good quality:

Boys school shirts, school trousers, school shoes. Boys casual trousers/chinos. Boys underwear(trunks) Sports socks, the black or grey ones are brilliant for school. Boys Pyjamas. casual poloshirts/hooded tops sometimes - they can be a bit of a hit or miss.

mens pants

Some of the household stuff - I 've had some nice duvet sets. rugs are always lovely and I've had a few Roman blinds and curtains as well.

I bought all my bathroom fittings for 2 bathrooms and a toilet from Next - they were really nice quality and plumber was happy enough with them too.

Ladies wear I don't buy very much. I buy trousers for work but generally need to sort the hems as they always come down. I also have a fair few pairs of jeans but sizing can be an issue.

I never see much in the shop, I always order on-line as they tend to only stock up to age 12 in the shop.

I also buy from H&M and find quality there a bit of a hit or miss too. My son has been wearing some of their 1.99 jogging shorts for the last 3 years (they have managed to grow with him somehow!) but I have had t-shirts that were fit for the bin after one wash. I've bought their summer polo shirts and they are not as nice quality as the Next ones but then how good do they need to be when they only fit for one summer.

soontobeslendergirl · 11/04/2014 13:52

Oh and my sons always liked their velcro style hi top shoes - they have high insteps so the lace ones are a real pain to get on and off as they need to be properly loosened and tightened every time. Unfortunately they only go up a size 8 and they now need a 9 and they don't stock stuff like that in the mens section. :(

WheresRyder · 11/04/2014 14:17

I wouldn't say next as middle class at all. Friends that are definitely in the middle class bracket don't shop at next. I find that some of the clothing is fine and especially for dd I buy a bit, but as with all shops some stuff if lovely and some is not.

I stopped buying from French connection as its expensive and falls apart.

paragirl1981 · 11/04/2014 14:18

I find Next clothes way over priced for something that's made in a horrible Moroccon factory. Especially when you can get similar in primark or asda or tesco for less than half the price.

Orangeanddemons · 11/04/2014 14:28

I think middle class was its demographic when it first started. But it rebranded itself about 8 years ago, and moved downmarket. That's when I think it went shit. It seems to make a massive profit every year though

Chesntoots · 11/04/2014 15:03

Some of the fabrics are revolting and very frumpy - they look like something Per Una rejected.

Having said that, their skinny high waist jeans are life savers.

SelectAUserName · 11/04/2014 15:19

I used to be able to rely on Next to get a decent work suit but for the last couple of years the choice has been dire. I can't remember the last time I bought anything in there and they used to be one of my go-to staples.

Girlwithnotattoos · 11/04/2014 15:26

I haven't really shopped for myself in Next for several years ever since they started mass producing the 'latest' tat. I find that their stuff is poor quality and very overpriced for what it is. I still buy the odd thing for the dc's but even the children's stuff is not great. I wish they'd go back to producing quality items that look good and last. But I doubt they will so I doubt they'll be getting much of my custom Grin

Nocomet · 11/04/2014 15:28

Going down market about 8 years ago makes sense from the point at which DDs stopped having almost all next stuff, because it just stopped being worth the extra over Sainsbury's etc.
