to think the hatred for Next is just backlash against the popular and successful?

I don't get it, they stock such a wide range of products and styles how can everyone on here hate them? Whatever you find in other shops, you can generally find in Next too.

It's just bandwagonning isn't it? It's popular so it's cool to say you hate them isn't it?

In my eyes, if I want nice kids clothes Next has it- from cute and girly, to hooker style, to nautical, to traditional, whatever you want they have it!

They have women's stuff in formal, casual, tarty, frumpy, maternity, everything under the sun.

I shop in loads of places, including Next, but all the Next hatred puzzles me.

You can spot a Next customer from 50 paces. They will have "that" blouse or t-shirt on that half the nation has and either boots or sandals that scream Next too.

That said, I like their curtains.

I liked them in the 80's.

The End.

struggling100 · 11/04/2014 15:36

I wouldn't be able to spot a Next customer from one pace away. I virtually never go shopping, and have no idea what is in the shops most of the time. Given the enormous range of stuff that every large chain has now, I am absolutely amazed that people can afford so much shopping time that they can identify every item of clothing in every store.

thedrunkenduck · 11/04/2014 15:43

I'm indifferent.

However- you can't say tesco/asda/Primark make clothes that are the same quality. That just isn't true. I've just picked up two baby grows I have- one from next and one from Primark. The next one is thicker, feels higher quality and the finish quality is better as well. Sure the Primark one is nice as well which is why I brought it- but I won't bother to try and re sell it like I will do with the more expensive stuff I have, I'll just send it straight to the charity shop.

The womens sizes are weird in there- last summer I picked up a pair of chinos and a dress to try on, exactly the same size. The trousers were like clowns trousers and the dress didn't even zip up so somebody explain that to me.

I had never been to a sale until a few weeks ago. I wasn't going to bother but I was awake anyway with nothing to do and went and had a nosey. The adult stuff was foul but I did pick up some baby grows and little bits in newborn/3 months and was pretty chuffed. Will I go again? I wouldn't make the effort to set my alarm to do it- but yeah, I'd have a look again if I was going past or was awake and nothing to do.

3DcAndMe · 11/04/2014 15:50

I do think tescos childrens clothes are good quality these days tbh

thedrunkenduck · 11/04/2014 15:58

Good quality? Yes. Comparable to next? No. There's a reason they are cheaper- inferior materials. I believe ASDA clothes (or Matalan?) are actually made in the same factory as next- similar designs but inferior materials for cheaper prices.

3DcAndMe · 11/04/2014 16:02

See I don't rate asdas but tesco is my back up shop and I have some lovely stuff for my dd from there

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 11/04/2014 16:26

I've tried Next a few times and found their shops really crowded and overwhelming, the displays have been so close together even though it was unneeded in such a large space. It meant many parts were a no go for any users of any type of mobility device. It made the entire brand really unappealing to me.

Orangeanddemons · 11/04/2014 16:28

I think the baby wear at Next is good, and the little girlswear is lovely too.

However, I used to be a children swear designer, these two areas of the Market the easiest to get right. I think their older girls stuff is hideous. I can't put my finger on what it is I don't like. It's just like little teenage wear, and can look trashy. What my dear departed mum would have called common Grin

Girlwithnotattoos · 11/04/2014 23:03

Ooo Orange I love the thought of you designing children's swear ! Hopefully just the odd poo, wee and maybe a bookie or two Grin

Girlwithnotattoos · 11/04/2014 23:53

Boobie obviously Grin

Polonius · 12/04/2014 01:10

I don't hate next, its just not my style of clothing.

They are good for kids and home though.

fatlazymummy · 12/04/2014 07:21

I agree with oranges about the clothes for older girls. My daughter has had a few things from there bought as presents, and they just looked 'wrong' on her, even though they fit. I don't know why really.
I find Tesco and Asda clothes perfectly adequate quality. We have had stuff from there that has lasted for years, and been washed hundreds of times. Oddly Sainsburys clothes often wear in to holes though.

Owllady · 12/04/2014 13:26

Bizarrely I feel the opposite, I think a lot of their older girls clothes are naive compared to elsewhere, which is mainly trashy
Confused
I really struggle to find stuff that's suitable for my dd as she is 14 and has sld, so is very vulnerable. The last thing I want to do is put her in sexy, trashy stuff.

Orangeanddemons · 13/04/2014 07:50

But I think they are suitable for a 14 year old. They are not suitable for my 8 year old dd though!

ForalltheSaints · 13/04/2014 10:08

We should be concerned at the concentration of clothes retailing in a few companies' hands, and Next (or the group they are a part of) are one of them. Leads to overpriced tat, nothing for those of an unusual size, poor conditions for those who make clothes, and is a contributor to our being a badly dressed nation.

The French may have Monsieur Hollande but at least they can dress with some style.

HagLady · 13/04/2014 10:12

Haven't read the thread, but I have a 50e voucher and I couldn't spend it yesterday. Their clothes just aren't tailored. Everything is "slouchy".

Cocolepew · 13/04/2014 10:26

I like Next, I can't afford to shop in FC etc. I by tops for work in there (casual) all are cotton and affordable. I don't own anything polyester from it.

I like the homewares too.

Cocolepew · 13/04/2014 10:27

The quality of clothes in H&M is shocking.

Pumpkinpositive · 13/04/2014 10:31

I've never been a fan. Back in the mid to late nineties, in my late teens, I had friends who raved about the place. The clothes were never to my taste but I recognised they were of good quality and well made and I bought the occasional item.

Nowadays you couldn't drag me in kicking and screaming. The clothes are bland, cheap looking, unimaginative and overpriced. Actually, they've ALWAYS been bland, uninspiring and overpriced, but at least they weren't tacky and cheap looking in days past.

Crowen85 · 13/04/2014 10:44

I loved next when I was a teenager/young adult. But now I can afford better so I buy better. Next is perfect for socks/leggings/tights

Livingwithminecraftaddicts · 13/04/2014 11:20

Not a fan of it because it is like watered down fashion. People who are unsure of whats stylish can walk into next and buy something 'on trend'. Which is completely fine for its purpose. But for me a confident fashion lover would not shop in next, its not a price thing (although it is very overpriced) h&m is cheao but edgier and you can come up with a more individual look from there. I have 5 dc and have only ever bought the odd pair of jeans for them from it. Who wants to bring their child to the park or a party to see another 3 children wearing the same thing?
The bed linen can be good, or it used to be.

soontobeslendergirl · 13/04/2014 11:42

I have boys not girls - after people saying the girls clothes were unsuitable for the age groups, I went and had a look and it might just be me, but I couldn't see anything unsuitable - certainly not the entire ranges.

Would people care to link so I can understand what you mean?
