Not eating there

Long story short. It was a friends birthday and she invited 15 of us to a local pub for lunch. She had reserved us tables. As soon as I arrived the manger said to me.... 'We need your tables' there are other people coming after you. I asked her what time she needed us out (baring in mind we had booked) and she refused to give a time, instead saying 'I'm sending the bar manger up to speak to everyone'. Wibu at this point, to flounce off and not order a meal as I felt under time pressure and treated badly. Gutted as had not seen my mates for ages. They later came around to the house and apparently the woman treated them like that too. They were annoyed too. We were spending a couple of hundred quid there probably.....

I once went to a hen night at a resturaunt where they literally stood behind us, ready to pull the chairs out for us so that we would leav and they could get the next next lot in. There were queues out the door for tables when we left.

I found it rude and I have never been back there.. But it didn't ruin the evening.

LIZS · 07/04/2014 11:48

Did you even have the courtesy to let your friend know you'd be late ? 3 missing out of a group of 15 is a number . If you then expected to order and be served together, rather than they order and eat ahead, then yabu as the kitchen will manage orders as they are taken and large groups would be planned in so as to not affect other tables' service. If you run late then there will be a knock on effect on the next group booked. Perhaps next time your friend should ask you all to pre-order and take deposits , and you ensure you arrive on time.

I'm rather of the suspicion that rather than the scenario painted by the OP, the manager she talked with couldn't give any guarantees about any extra time available to accommodate the OP's lateness and said that she would have to send the bar manager over to discuss it and give some timings When tthe original party arrived on time they were probably politely reminded that there was a sitting after them.

LIZS · 07/04/2014 14:15

Agree and that may well have been the case when asked if ready to order and they had to say 3 had not yet arrived. OP seems to be assuming the tone of what her friend was previously told.

bordellosboheme · 07/04/2014 17:51

No. When original party arrived, they received rudeness, hence they left without paying too.

Ok, these replies are going off into the realms of imaginings. If you can't take what op (me) said at face value and think I am making things up for the purposes of this post, then you have an over active imagination. I agree with the poster who said tha many have forgotten we are talking about a SERVICE industry, you know, one where you are supposed to be accommodating and polite to customers, not make them feel shite. Some of the replies do reveal why we have some shite customer service in the uk (and I've travelled a lot- uk customer service is amongst the worst in the world).... Letting this post wither and die, as I've learned way too much about the 'customer is there to please the restaurant' attitudes of some mumsnetters Confused may I never step into any of those restaurants!

Wither and die? You just revived it for the evening crowd Grin

Do you accept that you didn't behave well (arriving late, leaving without even sitting down)? I think your intransigence on this point hasn't helped.

People never take an OP at face value. We always read between the lines. That's why reverses get spotted so fast Wink

Yabu. You were late, it has a knock on effect.
Judging by the tone of some of your responses im wondering how polite you were to the staff also.

ilovesooty · 07/04/2014 18:44

Yes but you weren't there when the original party arrived were you? Your information is second hand.
So did the original party eat anything? If they did, they defrauded the restaurant. If they didn't I'm surprised they suffered rudeness and were still sitting there without food when you deigned to arrive. So did they leave with you, before you got there or after you flounced off?

lollerskates · 07/04/2014 18:51

A bit like you forgot to turn up on time?

Quinteszilla · 07/04/2014 20:46

"No. When original party arrived, they received rudeness, hence they left without paying too."

maybe they should have left before eating....

Tinkerball · 07/04/2014 20:54

I'm confused, did people eat and leave without paying or leave before they ate?

whois · 07/04/2014 21:06

I actually think you weren't being U.

It is really annoying when restaurants have too tight a turnover and kick you out. Went out for lunch with family last week, booked a table for 8 and we weren't allowed to order desert because we were told we wouldn't have time to eat it! The restaurant had given is a 2h slot without telling us on booking, which isn't really a long time for a group of 8.

^^ this!!!

(I personally think the woman your friends were referring to was you, wondering why you are always late and make everything about you .

just kidding Grin

You were being a little bit unreasonable.
