AIBU to want to hurl sweet wrappers out of the window when I see an
illuninated sign on the matrix board of the M1 saying,
BIN YOUR LITTER
OtHER PEOPLE DO

I know what you mean Blush

It's like when I'm tired and DH says "Shall we go to bed?" and it makes me think "FUCK YOU! I'M A GROWN-UP NOW AND I'LL DO WHAT I WANT."

NewtRipley · 06/04/2014 16:23

Why?

Is it the use of the verb "to bin"?

or is it the sentiment?

What would you like it to say?

"BIN YOUR LITTER. IT'S THE DECENT THING TO DO?"

"BIN YOUR LITTER YOU ANTI-SOCIAL SCUZZBUCKET" ?

Sorry for all the questions

YellowDinosaur · 06/04/2014 16:28

That sign is on the A1 too and gives me the exact same reaction. What a load of bollocks. Other people do? So fucking what? 'bin your litter' would be enough on its own surely?

Monmouth · 06/04/2014 16:28

I'm sure if you're the type of person who chucks litter out of your car window you won't take much notice of this sign.

Can't say id be irritated by it though.

NewtRipley · 06/04/2014 16:29

It doesn't annoy me because it doesn't apply to me. I'm a good girl I am.

Maybe wouldn't win those who are on the fence on the whole littering issue

NewtRipley · 06/04/2014 16:29

win over

LineRunner · 06/04/2014 16:30

So hurl your sweet wrappers out of your car window.

And have a nice life.

Other people do.

Corus

Blimey, is that what it's doing? I need to read Nudge.

I think most people don't throw litter though. And the ones that do are likely to laugh in the face of signs.

NewtRipley · 06/04/2014 16:34

and ones like the OP who are so annoyed by it are Apparently toying with the idea of taking up litter buggery

LineRunner · 06/04/2014 16:35

So don't recycle. Chuck litter.

Be happy in your world.

ConfusedPixie · 06/04/2014 16:36

Haha, I get the same urge. It's like when you were in school and the teacher would tell off a child for talking and would include "everybody else is being quiet and patient so why can't you too?" It would just make me want to shout out something just to prove them wrong Grin

Curiosa · 06/04/2014 16:36

It's the "OTHER PEOPLE DO" that annoys me with its assumption that I can't think for myself but will follow sheep-like if every one else is doing something!
In fact I wouldn't dream of dropping litter out of a car window...........until I saw this sign!!!

Please don't nudge me to hate nudging.

Nocomet · 06/04/2014 16:40

I always walk on the grass if there's a sign telling me not to.

And absolutely certain supermarkets play drink responsibly ads at Christmas to remind you you need more gin.

If other people bin my litter, why should I?
See, the phrasing is all wrong. And the shaming attempt is pretty weak.
Why not "BIN YOUR LITTER LIKE A GROWN UP"?

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 06/04/2014 16:44

LOL, saw loads of these signs this morning, they are all over the place.

A27, M23, M25, M4 all had them, all with the same wording. There is something irritating about the wording for sure.

Clearly plenty of others don't bin their litter anyway otherwise it wouldn't be such a problem!

LineRunner · 06/04/2014 16:46

Why do feel a sign is attempting to shame you? Do you feel shamed? It's just a sign.

CurlsLDN · 06/04/2014 16:47

I read it as a pun/play on words, as in

Bin your litter. (Otherwise) other people do.

If that makes sense?

Curiosa · 06/04/2014 16:47

A sign saying "ONE MILLION SPENT LAST WEAR CLEARING LITTER" would be better because that's a fact from which drivers can draw their own conclusions.
