bath their children every day!

Following on from the thread about a poster not changing her children into pyjamas, I was surprised reading the responses how many people say they only bath their kids a couple of times a week.

I bath mine every night before bed and always have done, bar illness or something catastrophic happening in my day. On the rare occasion they have had to miss their bath, I have done a quick wipe down with a flannel, but they never seem clean after it. My kids seem to get filthy during the day, mud/food etc.

I know those kids who have excema cannot always have a bath everyday, but for anyone else it just seems like pure laziness to me.

Yanbu! I totally agree its part of their routine I think, and I've got a slight obsession about making sure DS has a bath every night! There's been a few times where I have put him straight to bed, cause he's fallen asleep in the car on the way back from nursery, but I always use baby wipes to give him a wipe over in that case!

OwlCapone · 05/04/2014 09:59

I'm shocked at how many people are ridiculously anal and judgemental.

TheSkiingGardener · 05/04/2014 10:00

I used to bath the DC every night. But they really don't get that dirty except around the face with food etc. Now they have a choice, as long as they bathe every other day they can choose whether that have a bath that night or not.

mrsminiverscharlady · 05/04/2014 10:01

Good for you then. What's the point of this thread then except to point out what a superior parent you are? Hmm

I was obsessed with bathing DS1 every night without foal but since DS2 came along its maybe 4-5 times a week. It's not laziness, just choosing which battles you want to pursue at bedtime

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 05/04/2014 10:02

I don't bath my DD everyday simply because she doesn't need it and I don't think it's good for her skin.

Obviously if she comes home covered in mud or pen frequent then I would bath her, other than that it's every other day.

When I was younger we had a bath one a week.

Maybe I'll judge you for bathing your children too much Wink

deemented · 05/04/2014 10:02

TBH I don't care if you think I'm lazy or not. Mine get dunked as and when they or I think they need it. My nine year old is happy to take himself off to shower - maybe twice a week, My four year old has sensory issues and is water averse, so he gets dunked properly maybe once a fortnight. The other two maybe once or twice a week. The rest of the time they are stripwashed with a flannel. They are always clean, tidy and presentable.

Don't see it as a big deal tbh - when we were kids Sunday night was always bath night. It was a bloody luxury to have a bath midweek and unheard of to do so everyday.

So yeah, hoike those judgypants up that wee bit further.

annie987 · 05/04/2014 10:02

Twice a week is plenty for my kids. Hands and face wash every night. Don't see a problem.

tumbletumble · 05/04/2014 10:02

YABU. Maybe your DC get dirtier than mine?

Needaninsight · 05/04/2014 10:03

I agree!!! Thank goodness I'm not the only one.

TBH, yes, I wasn't bathed daily as a child, but that's because I was a child back in the 70's. No one had a bath daily then, and no showers. But I was flannel washed daily (euggh, hated it!).

Now, why would you flannel wash a child daily, when you could just whack them quickly in the bath? Surely easier to put them in the bath?

I'm hoping that people who say they don't bath their kids daily do at least wipes their bums with flannels though! Gross gross.

Seriously. People who say they don't get dirty...ermmm..HELLO..most kids don't wipe their backsides properly. So you're saying you send them to bed (and to school) with dirty bums?

ComradePlexiglass · 05/04/2014 10:03

You are a bad parent. Your children's natural oils will be depleted. I think you need to control your over-zealous cleaning of children urge.

VelmaD · 05/04/2014 10:03

Yup, im lazy. Don't give a crap tbh. My kids get showered twice a week unless they stink (so more in the summer) my water bill and gas bill are lower than most, my kids are happy and healthy - why do they need bathing nightly?! I only shower every two days myself.

Haha Owl on the money! What an utterly cockish thing to say OP!! Take your head from up your arse and be 'shocked' at something else Grin my guess is your pfb isn't at school yet, save your indignation for book band levels Wink

tobybox · 05/04/2014 10:04
Hmm

Why does it bother you so much, OP?

It's not like we recoil in horror from children who aren't bathed everyday. Most likely you wouldn't even notice.

TheWildOnes · 05/04/2014 10:04

Maybe other peoples kids don't get as filthy as yours, I dont think that makes them lazy.
It also depends on the age of the DC. When mine were very young they were bathed more often but that was due to the fact they were still in nappies and quite sicky, which doesnt smell good.

MardyBra · 05/04/2014 10:04

I'm shocked at how many posters don't put the subject matter in the thread title. Give us a clue so we can avoid subjects which have already been endlessly debated. Wink

Oldandcobwebby · 05/04/2014 10:04

Every couple of nights, o

callamia · 05/04/2014 10:04

I don't. He's five months old. What's the point?
I just bath him in water too. Come judge me!

FuckyNell · 05/04/2014 10:05

Hahaha when they're skanky teens who never wash you'll wonder why you bothered Grin

getagoldtoof · 05/04/2014 10:05

My son's skin gets extremely dry after a bath no matter how much prescribed eczema cream we lather him in afterwards. It would be cruel to bathe him every day.

To be honest, I reserve my shock for parents who actually abuse and neglect their children.

AlpacaYourThings · 05/04/2014 10:05

I'm shocked you care so much.

tobybox · 05/04/2014 10:06

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygiene_hypothesis I agree with this theory.
