bath their children every day!

Following on from the thread about a poster not changing her children into pyjamas, I was surprised reading the responses how many people say they only bath their kids a couple of times a week.

I bath mine every night before bed and always have done, bar illness or something catastrophic happening in my day. On the rare occasion they have had to miss their bath, I have done a quick wipe down with a flannel, but they never seem clean after it. My kids seem to get filthy during the day, mud/food etc.

I know those kids who have excema cannot always have a bath everyday, but for anyone else it just seems like pure laziness to me.

Laziness?! Have aBiscuit

Individual choice entirely. My 7 yr old is twice a week unless he gets filthy.

Surely being that rigid in a routine doesn't allow for any spontaneity. .....I find that boring Wink

Needaninsight - dirty bums?
does that mean if your child does a poo at 9am they run around all day with a dirty bum?

OP - YABU

happyscouse · 05/04/2014 10:07

Why shocked? what harm is going to happen to them missing the odd bath night? are you "shocked" when other parents don't follow everything else you do?

HecatePropylaea · 05/04/2014 10:07

Mine have a bath everyday because they want to. It's part of their morning routine and it freshens them up and wakes them up. I like a bath before bed because I love to end the day by relaxing and I live that feeling of being squeaky clean and snuggling down into cool crisp sheets, and I have a shower in the morning because love to wake up with cool water sprinkling over me. I am a washaholic. Grin

But is there really a NEED to bathe every day? How dirty do we get? It's not like most of us do hard, dirty, sweaty manual labour these days, is it?

Bathing alternating with a good strip wash doesn't seem that dirty. In fact, it used to be much more common to do that when people WERE muckier on a day to day basis. A good hard scrub with a soapy flannel gets you clean. I really don't think that the majority of people get dirty enough in 24 hours to have a genuine need to immerse themselves in hot water.

MichaelFinnigan · 05/04/2014 10:07

Every other night here. Can't think of any reason to do it more often

Needaninsight · 05/04/2014 10:07

Why do people keep saying their kids don't get dirty?!

Who's talking about dirt?

Dirty pooey backsides. No 1 reason for making sure they are properly clean every day Yuk to anyone who's said twice a week, disgusting!!

MostlyMama · 05/04/2014 10:07

You'll dry their skin out bathing daily.

Goblinchild · 05/04/2014 10:07

So OP, the time to feel truly smug is when they are teenagers and still bathing and showering as often as necessary without you bathing them.

IdkickJilliansAss · 05/04/2014 10:07

You are wasting water, can I judge you for that.

BelleateSebastian · 05/04/2014 10:08

'Dirty bums'?? Teach your Dc to wipe properly!!! My dc have perfectly clean 'bums' despite only bathing/showering 2-3 times per week! and yes I do know as they seem to spend a disproportionate amount of time running around naked

formerbabe · 05/04/2014 10:08

Needaninsight....that's exactly what I mean...if they are still in nappies, then they have been sitting in their own muck, even if you still change them straightaway. If they are older, I don't think they clean themselves as thoroughly as they should.

This is not to mention food on their hands/faces. Mud in the park. Pen/paint at school/nursery.

I find a flannel wash doesn't work that well.

I don't agree with picking your battles when bath time is concerned.

Oh look, I found a life. Here, you have it!

maddening · 05/04/2014 10:09

We bath every night but that's more as our ds needs a bedtime routine - not a great sleeper.

if he hated the bath and it was more of a battle I wouldn't do every night unless v mucky. Maybe 3 or four times for example

depends on the child and the parents - whatever works as long as dc are ok and not bathing every night is fine and better for some eg sensitive skin, not liking baths or fits in to lifestyle etc.

feathermucker · 05/04/2014 10:09

Oh, do piss off with the twice aweek is disgusting; you're coming across as more than a little OCD Wink

Hmm
Needaninsight · 05/04/2014 10:10

mrsgeorge My child is still in nappies, but I imagine, when she gets to 5/6 etc (and at school) she will hardly be an expert at cleaning her backside!

Hence, why I would bath her daily and put clean pj's on before bed to allow her poor bits time to breathe and recover.

She might well have poo on her bum from 9am in the morning til bathtime (gross yes) but much better than all these posters who are saying that poo would still be there three days later! [boak]

IdkickJilliansAss · 05/04/2014 10:11

Sitting in their own muck! Oh dear

AMillionNameChangesLater · 05/04/2014 10:11

Ds1 (2.6) has a bath every day, that's because he asks for one. He tends to have it about 5/5:30ish, sometimes earlier. It takes away some of the 5-7pm whine because he's tired but too early for bed. If he doesn't have a bath, I'm not bothered, he will get one another time. The amount of baths other people's children get isn't even on my radar

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 05/04/2014 10:11

Meh, I think dirt is good for kids. I used to eat mud and I turned out just fine.

BelleateSebastian · 05/04/2014 10:11

needaninsight ... You really do!!!!

Tweasels · 05/04/2014 10:11

I just shove the kids in once a week with the dogs.

HowContraryMary · 05/04/2014 10:11

Eww @ all those chemicals on your childs skin OP. Drying it out. You've bought into marketing hype by the likes of Proctor and Gambol and Johnsons haven't you Grin

IdkickJilliansAss · 05/04/2014 10:12

Why on earth would a baby have poo on their bum from 9am to bath time, have you never heard of wipes?!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 05/04/2014 10:13

Some people seem to think its a requirement to bath children everyday.

Ds gets bathed twice a week, and gets compliments on what beautiful skin and shiny hair he has.
He's 8 months, if excessive food wiping in hair has happened on a particular day, I might bath him. Or I might just give him a good wipe.

gamerchick · 05/04/2014 10:13

I never bath mine.
