bath their children every day!

Following on from the thread about a poster not changing her children into pyjamas, I was surprised reading the responses how many people say they only bath their kids a couple of times a week.

I bath mine every night before bed and always have done, bar illness or something catastrophic happening in my day. On the rare occasion they have had to miss their bath, I have done a quick wipe down with a flannel, but they never seem clean after it. My kids seem to get filthy during the day, mud/food etc.

I know those kids who have excema cannot always have a bath everyday, but for anyone else it just seems like pure laziness to me.

Our GP has advised that we bathe our daughter every other day due to her eczema.

My kids love their nightly bath. It's part of their bedtime routine and they like going to bed feeling fresh. My DS, who has eczema, particularly loves his bath. He has a soothing emollient in it and we finish off with a cool shower which calms his skin down. I then apply his cream whilst his skin is still slightly damp. It really works.

You have misunderstood me IdKick
My point was stop all the fighting over nonsense such as how often everyone baths and just enjoy your DC.
Mine had a bath every night because that was my inclination and I had the time.
It doesn't make me mother of the year.

It is interesting that the parents I know who are the most fastidious about hygiene have the children with the most days off sick.

Bathing kids with soap every night is a shocking waste of water & soap.

I really wish sometimes people would stop and think about how the majority of the people in the world have to live their lives.

In his whole life my 13 year old has only had 2 bottles of shampoo, and he shares those with his brother. Until they start to get greasy hair shampoo isn't actually needed.

I bathe every evening and shower every morning at the pool.
I haven't had a cold/flu/vomiting bug since I can remember !
I usually get ill when Im under stress- otherwise my immune system is pretty robust.
Washing with soap or shampoo doesnt tend to affect innate or acquired immunity !

I know it's not good to try to live in a sterile bubble (after all, I've said myself on this thread that I'm not obsessive about a full bath every day for children) but I'm not convinced by the 'oh, we only wash twice a year and we're far healthier for it' argument.

The children I know who are by far the most ill, the most prone to skin infections, to d&v bugs etc, the ones who miss the most school, are definitely the ones who are the least clean, the ones who are very lax about washing their hands after using the toilet, stroking pets etc.

Sorry namechange if the video you were referring to wasnt the one of her child having a bath then I apologise...

My kids are some of the great unwashed. My oldest dc hated baths as a baby so we never got into the relaxing before bed routine. They never smelt.
Unfortunately 11 yr old is now going through a stage of avoiding them like the plague and often has to be forced persuaded to shower.
Oldest showers more often now, she has hit puberty.

Like adults, it probably depends on the child how smelly they get. Some need more washing than others.
