To have a drink in the morning sometimes

Not an alcoholic, sometimes it helps to get through the day. Anyone else?

If you're using alcohol to 'get through the day ' then it is possible you have a problem.

the only time really is when I have had a stressful night shift, not that i do night shift any more.

Not alcohol, but do need a cup of tea to kick start me. I couldn't drink alcohol as I need to drive to work, but I'd love one by 10am most days.

Depends if you could get through the day without it or not.

I presume you're not driving.

It's not something that's done by many people, but that doesn't make it wrong I suppose.

do you drink EVERY DAY? or do you have a couple of totally dry days each week to let your body recover? how many units are you drinking?

Alcohol at anytime to help you get through the day is a problem IMO

I would say that if you need a drink in the morning to get through the day you are alcohol dependent.

Not normal, I'd be worried if I needed a drink in the morning.

Um, if you think you need a drink in the mornings just to 'see you through the day' then that definitely sounds like a problem, sorry.

And I think I'm pretty lax about alcohol.

Well I will have a cup tea with brandy in it sometimes. Or if I'm in a rush I will drink it straight.

Alcohol shouldn't be used to get you through the day. It's called dependency.

Bloody Mary on a Sunday morn? Buck's Fizz for Xmas breakfast? Champagne breakfast birthdays/anniversaries? Beer on a beach holiday at brunch?

I'm sorry, but you are an alcoholic of some kind. There are functional alcoholics who can hide it, there are people passed out drunk in the gutter. The ones who are hiding it are in a sort of metaphorical gutter and would all be happier out of it. Nobody needs a drink to get through the day and if you're starting in the morning you are dependent on alcohol. How much do you drink a day?

Are you talking about champers at brunch from time to time? Or a slug of Bailey's in the morning coffee on the odd occasion?
