job application 6months rule

i have notied with a lot of companies that once you applied online for a spot that you can not re apply for something else with them for 6 months.

am i the only one who thinks this is really unfair?

iv applied for 3 companies.. didnt get a interveiw, was emailed and told "thank you for your application good luck etc etc, we will no longer keep your details on record etc"

so when another spot has opened up iv applied and becasue iv applied to them in the 6 months and becasue they didnt choose me that time they can not accept my application?

it just seems silly and really unfair. 100's are going for the same job so of course not every one is going to even get an interveiw but this to me just says.. your just not good enough at all for us, so we are not even going to condiser you. the only reason for it tha ti can see is to limit the amount of people going for it? i think they are being vub

A friend just experienced this with Asda. She applied for a till job she saw online. Then she was emailed saying she couldn't apply for any other job at Asda for 6 months.

How on earth are people meant to get jobs if they are prevented from applying?

yess asda was one of them. they acepted my second application for a different job there and than emailed me a couple days latter saying they couldnt take it any further due to the 6 months rule..

jobs are hard enough to find with out having to wait 6 months to re-apply to be a bloody till opperartor.

It's because they use automated systems that will, in theory, check through all of the rejected applications from the past six months and identify any who match the requirements and therefore should be shortlisted. So you shouldn't need to apply again, but you've essentially already been checked against the job.

That's the theory, at least.

the first rejection email says my details wont be kept for further applications.. at least with one of the companies i applied to.

though if that is true... say they short list me in 3 months after my 1st application and call me ... but i turn the job down because iv all ready found one.. but would have taken the job 2 months when another spot opened up, had i been allowed to apply. its just seems really really unfair and makes finding a job so much harder. if that makes sence?

I hope the Job centres are aware of this rule when it comes to docking "clients" benefits for not applying for every job going.

If they don't keep your details, how do they know you have already applied?

The job centres will be aware but won't care. They'll just sanction you anyway. The purpose of the job centre is to punish you for not having a job no matter why you don't have a job.

I didn't think the job centre could sanction you if you were applying for work. Surely if you've applied but got an email back you are still trying to look for work?

My friend said the email's tone was that she wouldn't be considered again for anything for six months.

With asda, you can always use another email address, worked for me.

That does sound a bit of a mean rule. I am surprised Asda is doing this. I thought they weren't such a bad firm.

Maybe the Asda email is just confusing people.

I noticed that with Asda. I thought it might be because of the job centres pushing people so that they apply for anything.

well they keep your details but they wont keep them with intent to use them if another vacancy comes up.ifywhim

it will still count as an application as you applied.. well i bloody well hope so!

but good idea about changing emails.. i may try that one and see if it fools the computer?

I would think that there are companies who are getting a lot of applications from people who are not suitable for the jobs just because they have to keep the job centre staff happy to get their benefits.
thing is though.. its till work..s tocking shelves and with out wanting to offend any one.. its not exactly hard or in need of much brain work... so i cant see why they want to stop people..

but you are right people are being asked to apply for anything.. even if its something you know and they know you wont be able to do.. its all to do with making numbers and targets!

and asda ar enot the only ones.. carphone ware house. ee/tmobile.. do to. there was some others but i cant think of them off the top of my head.

How far into the process did you get, OP?

If you only sent your CV, you are missing something that they consider essential. If you got to the personal stage, they don't think you meet the personality criteria.

That email says that they won't consider you for anything else for 6 months, and won't accept applications from you either. It's different to the "You're not quite right but we'll keep your details on file for 6 months" email.

areyou.. i know.. the first email i got from the first one i applied said that they would not be keeping the details

its more than a cv.. you have to take a 30 minute test thing.

i think i may have complicated it, i just dont think its r ight they can do the 6 month thing?

I'm glad you took that how I intended it - it sounds a bit mean reading it back!

I agree about the six month rule, though. I've done a lot of work with systems like Taleo, hence trying to explain it, but there is no good reason really. I think it's just an attempt to reduce applications.

I hope you find something that suits you soon. Job hunting is soul destroying :(

YABU to think its unfair, they will have so many applicants for each job that it's just a waste of their time to keep going over and over applications they ruled as being unsuitable a couple of months ago when it's unlikely that anything will have changed.

They have to filter applicants somehow, especially when they know there will be people applying for jobs not because they want them, but because they want to keep their JSA.

I think Asda are BU in this case.

You may for example have applied for a till operator job just because you are out of work and will do anything to put food on the table for your family. If unsuccessful, you can't apply for any other role within 6 months? So what if the next vacancy is for an office admin, something you have years of experience at, they won't recall you for interview because they haven't kept your details on file but you can't reapply cos you were unsuccessful for something entirely different?

My friend has quite a few qualifications, work experience on a till, good references, and can work shifts, but can't apply again for 6 months for a job on a till at Asda - that's crazy. She DOES have the right profile.

Boots is 18 months.

When i was job hunting i hated it because so many jobs would come up but because you had applied 3 or 4 months before you couldnt apply again.
