Paying for petrol

Is it ok to leave a sleeping baby in the car (locked) while you pay for petrol? My husband says its fine as you can see the car from the shop, but this parenting group on FB have been totally slating women who do this.
I usually have a sensible handle on things but this one is confusing me. I have always asked my husband to fill up so I don't have to avoiding the situation but he keeps telling me its fine to leave her (but humours me anyway and fills up!)

Glad to report that my DDs have survived to the ripe old age of 9 & 7 without spontaneously combusting or being car jacked despite being left in the car regularly while I paid for petrol. Miracle, isn't it??

I think some people on this thread need to relax a bit.....

Miaows got a point, the post she was commenting on was passive aggressive sanctimonious shite

As for those claiming you'll never need to get petrol when you've got the kids with you - what about single parents? Are they never meant to ever get petrol at all?!

Why don't you read the thread properly? Nobody has claimed that you'll never need to get petrol if you have kids with you, even if you are single.
I said "Most people (unless they are single) don't have get petrol while their children are in the car."

By the way people are talking you must all live in some rough places if there are security guards and raids!

I don't live anywhere rough but there have been raids and subsequently security guards at the local petrol station. It is close to a motorway so presumably is vulnerable because the thieves can make a quick getaway.

I never took my three into the petrol station kiosk when I paid for fuel. I just locked the car without arming the alarm and kept an eye on them through the window for the two or three minutes it took.

You always get some sanctimonious trash talked on these threads. There is risk in everything. Driving is risky in itself, so perhaps nobody should ever go anywhere. Practicalities take over. That's life.

As for using Oprah as a yardstick against which to assess the level of risk!! Really!! She goes for sensationalism. It is what she does.
