To take baby (4 months) to a wetherspoons pub for lunch with friends?

I'm a new mum and I planned to meet friends for lunch, one suggested a local wetherspoons at around midday. Then I mentioned it to DP and he questioned if this venue was appropriate or not.

It will be fine, can't quite work out why it would be inappropriate.

Enjoy :)

Seeline · 26/03/2014 12:15

IME Wetherspons pubs are usually popular with Mums and babies. My NCT group often used to meet there when our DCs were tiny.

meditrina · 26/03/2014 12:15

What's his problem with it?

Latara · 26/03/2014 12:15

Yes it's appropriate, Wetherspoon's seem quite family friendly.

dexter73 · 26/03/2014 12:15

Just don't give the baby any lager Wink

lovetheseasons1 · 26/03/2014 12:15

Can't see why not? Pubs are pretty family friendly in the day. I do it with our DD.

ChunkyPickle · 26/03/2014 12:16

Absolutely fine to do that - I bet it'll be full of buggies!

Perhaps DP is thinking back to when pubs were dark smokey places?

Curlyweasel · 26/03/2014 12:18

More appropriate than a lot of other pubs I'd say - fairly quiet (no music licences) and generally nice and big premises so you can have some privacy if you need to. If you mean taking 4 month old to a pub in general, then I don't see why not. I took DD to the pub at 11 days - single parent, no support, auntie came over and we went for a carvery.

Just enjoy your lunch. xx

UncleT · 26/03/2014 12:18

YABU to not go to a real pub, instead of shovelling more mass pennies down the throats of those actively trashing our traditional pub scene. As for the other issues though, go for it.

Chocoholism · 26/03/2014 12:20

Think he thought it was full of old drunken folks! Don't tell him I said but he is the most pfb you will ever meet! :)

Think you'll be fairly safe at lunchtime, OP. x

Wetherspoons is absolutely fine for babies and children, it's very family friendly.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 26/03/2014 12:26

My antenatal group met in a 'spoons type pub every week.

ShadowFall · 26/03/2014 12:27

Sounds fine to me.

IME Wetherspoons - and most other pubs that serve food - are pretty family friendly during the daytime.

The weatherspoons in our town is the one all the alcoholics hang out in. Cheapest beer. But i expect we are unusual. In the previous place i lived it was nice.

specialsubject · 26/03/2014 12:51

can be a bit rowdy at night due to the cheap beer, but fine during the day.

Topaz25 · 26/03/2014 12:52

Why not? It's a family friendly venue and should be fine during the day.

ICanSeeTheSun · 26/03/2014 12:52

Done it loads of times.

They have a 2 alcoholic drink policy before you get kicked out.

TheGreatHunt · 26/03/2014 12:53

As long as you don't plan on feeding baby one of those god awful £5.99 meals then why not?

Bowlersarm · 26/03/2014 12:54

Perfectly fine.

YNK · 26/03/2014 12:55

Ours has a family area to eat in and it's very clean.

sparechange · 26/03/2014 13:01

ICanSee, not in the one near my office, they don't...
On my way in, there are often a couple of people queuing outside waiting for it to open.
They are then outside smoking when I go out for lunch and it isn't uncommon for them to be there when I leave

OcadoSubstitutedMyHummus · 26/03/2014 13:10

Well, actually I'd pause slightly. There are two Wetherspoons walking distance from my house. One is perfectly nice and I'd happily take mums and babies into. But the other is dingy with lots of leery old men who are there drinking all day and the atmosphere is pretty rough so it wouldn't be somewhere I'd be happy going to for this.

Emubaby · 26/03/2014 13:14

Took my dd to Wetherspoons yesterday with friends. It was very well kitted out for babies, clean changing area, lots of space, good childrens menu and clean high chairs. I would say its a great place to go for lunch with a group of friends.
