To take baby (4 months) to a wetherspoons pub for lunch with friends?

I'm a new mum and I planned to meet friends for lunch, one suggested a local wetherspoons at around midday. Then I mentioned it to DP and he questioned if this venue was appropriate or not.

YANBU. I regularly meet with my mum-friends at Wetherspoons. They have crayons. 4months might be a tad too young for crayons, but IMO anywhere that provides crayons is family friendly!

I wouldn't bring my children into either of the two local to me.

Full of alcoholics & people drinking a lot who also have children with them.

There are two Wetherspoons where I live,

Both are full of drunken loud men, and lads who've just come off the rigs and start drinking the minute the place opens.

My friend likes it because it's cheap, and I am no food snob, but the food in both of ours is dreadful, neither are places I'd choose to go

They have a 2 alcoholic drink policy before you get kicked out. What for everyone?

NatashaBee Sorry x post

Absolutely fine if you are eating. I went in with DS to meet a friend for coffee and we were asked to leave because I hadn't bought a meal.

mymatemax · 26/03/2014 14:10

baby will be fine, I'm sure even if its full of drunks you aren't going to pass the baby around for them all to hold.
I don't get this at all, I had similar comments from my dh when ds1 was tiny. I think he just wanted to keep him at home and wrap him in cotton wool.
The more you venture out the more relaxed he will become.

Ours has a family area with cbeebies on and it is fab. One in nearby town is dreadful with drunks, I heard a bloke shouting "this isn't a fcuking creche, fcuk offff"! To a group of new mum's. (Surprised it didn't make it to MN).

Do you know what your local one is like?

Curlyweasel · 26/03/2014 15:45

Haha. I can see his point tho... Smile

Some Wetherspoons are quite family friendly- plenty of space, plenty of niches to tuck yourself into, nice and quiet, clean loos. A good place to teach children how to behave in pubs. Some are total drinking dens full of pissheads shouting at the sport.

Go to the former and avoid the latter and it's fine.

Wetherspoons is really child friendly IME, especially since the no smoking law came about. We don't go to pubs generally as we don't drink, but for a cheap predictable meal it's a good choice for us.

I BFed my youngest in our local one a few times during meals, nobody batted an eye
