AIBU to think Stephen Lawrence should be allowed to RIP

Most people on here are parents (as am I) and the thought of the loss of a child whatever age is horrific. However does there come a time as in the Lawrence case when everyone should allow the victim to rest in peace. I am not using the AWFUL term 'closure' or 'moving on' but just allow death in peace and be with your memories of the loved one however it happened. Those involved everyday have to be with their thoughts and consequences for the rest of their own lives.

What's the M&S campaign?

TheGirlFromIpanema · 26/03/2014 09:47

Vexedfoxy what a fucking stupid post to write Shock

Of course YABU.

I hope MN don't delete this thread. Sometimes its a useful barometer to see exactly how despicably ignorant people can be.

ihatethecold · 26/03/2014 09:48

Sorry I see that was explained up thread.

CumberCookie · 26/03/2014 09:49

The murder had far reaching consequences. The MET were disgustingly racist. Why the hell were they spying on the murder victim's family? Why should we let them get away with that??

RowanMumsnet · 26/03/2014 09:54

Hello everyone

Thanks for the reports; we've banned the OP now. (We can't see any evidence that they're a namechanger - they've only posted under this name since joining a couple of weeks ago and we can't immediately see another account associated with this registration - but do let us know by email/report function if you think this is a duplicate reg of another MNer.)

We're minded to let the thread stand though, as there are lots of statements of support for the Lawrences on here, and explanations of why the campaign for justice for Stephen Lawrence continues to be a significant issue for many people.

marssparklesdownonme · 26/03/2014 09:56

I also agree with every word "sashh" wrote. I would not rest for one day whilst my child's killers were free if I were in Doreen Lawrence's position.
The Met's role in the case was absolutely disgraceful and until the people who tried to destroy the evidence and protect the guilty are punished this will never be forgotten.

Ubik1 · 26/03/2014 10:21

If it was my child I would never give up the fight for the truth.

And that's the heart of the matter isn't it.

The fact is that they are also fighting for justice for you and me.

If the investigation was deliberately compromised to protect the son of a police informant- then what the hell else was going on?

Springheeled · 26/03/2014 10:31

Exactly Ubik1, it's a fight for all of us. Decent policing that protects all, justice, anti racism- benefit all of society.

TidyDancer · 26/03/2014 17:52

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying that I personally had an issue with the M&S campaign, only that I had overheard the conversation at work and thought this thread may be referring to it.

JeanSeberg · 26/03/2014 23:00

What is the m&s campaign???

mamma12 · 12/04/2014 21:35

you are beyond unreasonable. Your child was not knifed to death in a grotty south London street which to this day is an area over run with racists. I work there on a daily basis and it has not changed much if at all since 1993 (sadly as a white person I have been privvy to countless unguarded extreme racist views expressed in front of me). Doreen Lawrence did not and will not let anyone ever forget that at least two of the killers are still walking the street. You need to look deep inside yourself and ask yourself why her presence troubles you.
