AIBU?

AIBU to think Stephen Lawrence should be allowed to RIP

Most people on here are parents (as am I) and the thought of the loss of a child whatever age is horrific. However does there come a time as in the Lawrence case when everyone should allow the victim to rest in peace. I am not using the AWFUL term 'closure' or 'moving on' but just allow death in peace and be with your memories of the loved one however it happened. Those involved everyday have to be with their thoughts and consequences for the rest of their own lives.

OP posts:

Seriously, OP, I would suggest you are considerably worse than 'vexed' and veering into the territory of 'idiotic'

if the police had done their job, the case would have been solved in about 4 weeks and the Lawrences would have been able to get on with their lives in private.

"Should every person who is killed have their relatives in the House of Lords? "

OP, Can you also clarify if you know anything about the work that DL has done since her Son's murder, ie that last 20 years of her life?

What I think is interesting is that her Solicitor has recently said that in today's Legal Aid Framework, because of the cuts, he wouldn't be able to take up her case.

There are probably a few useless Peers in the HOL, DL certainly isn't one.

Oh I have just cottoned on to who the op is ...what a suprise. She does like to be goady.

OP, are you under the impression that our police force is completely beyond corruption, cover ups, covering their own arses and outright lying?

If that were true, then maybe Doreen Lawrence, everyone involved in Hillsborough, the family of Ian Tomlinson, and Andrew Mitchell should all shut up.

However, I think we should be bloody grateful and in admiration of them all; you, on the other hand, are essentially bored and would rather endure a corrupt force than have to think about the reality.

What a fucking crass post.

I think the corruption is still being investigated isn't it?

That police were protecting their informants. I saw a story which linked this corruption to the Daniel Morgan case.

I'd rather Dorren Lawrence was in the Lords than the rest of them, there due to title.

Vexed your opening post is one of the most alarming I have ever read on Mumsnet.

I was the same age as Stephen Lawrence when he was murdered. At the same stage of education. Also in south London. His death was truly shocking.

I honestly think you have no idea how offensive your comments are. Baroness Lawrence is a symbol of everything that is right in this country. She is a strong, articulate woman who is steadfast in her beliefs and is fighting for justice for all, as well as her son.

There is still work to be done. Still people involved in Stephen's murder either directly or indirectly, walk free never having paid the price for what they did and know.

Still evidence emerges of what the Met police did to cover up their actions.

And you're bothered about her being in a campaign for M&S? A campaign centred on inspirational British women?
I thought she looked great and I think the campaign is a really good one. But then I don't care what she wears. I care that she still has not had full justice for her son.

I sure she would be able to if the police weren't busy spying oh her and shredding files and bugging his best mates layers office

In other words, you want her to shut up.

Yeah, gordy, you are right. The lovely MN name changing function at work.

I have met Baroness Lawrence, and while her fight started off as justice for Stephen, it became so much more than that. She soon realised this wasn't just about Stephen, this was about institutionalised racism, and corruption in the Met. Doreen's tireless pursuit for justice has helped implement fundamental change throughout the nation's top police force, and for that, the country is forever in her debt.

Oh and one more thing, when I met Doreen, she said

Hmmm... I remember a poster on another forum who got banned for (amongst other things) goadiness.

Exactly the same name too.

Odd, that..

Bloody phone!

When I met Doreen, one thing in particular she said, really stood out. She said she had received comments about how she must enjoy the attention, and then paused and said (quite rightly), "I would much rather no-one know my name, but when they failed Stephen, I knew I had to make sure no-one would forget it."

Op...YABU and offensively so.

Why should Doreen Lawrence give up on justice....I grew up near the area it happened. It was handled disgracefully.

Only 2 men are in jail for this crime..justice has not been done yet.

Didn't Katie Piper do an M&S campaign? She is in the public eye because she was a victim of a crime. Op...do you think she should stop the work she does?

YABVU her son was murdered her sons murder was not solved for a long time it is still ongoing how can she let her sons memory rest when it is still ongoing, doreen is a very brave woman she has taken on a lot on her own mostly how can her son RIP

I have a theory why this particular poster has singled out Doreen Lawrence, rather than (say) Katie Piper.

OP, you really need to actually engage your brain before your fingers hit the keyboard - did you think at all before you made this post?

YABU a million times over.

If anything ever happened to my DS I would fight it till my last breath until justice was served and in the case Stephen Lawrence she isn't even close.

He is at peace, she never will be!

If it was my child I would never give up the fight for the truth.

Winnie Johnson son Keith Bennett never give up the fight for the search for her son, to this day his body is not found. Do you think that this family should move on, get over it and leave it rest.
